Good interview with ISD. Freeman talks about how good it is for all sports at ND to be good and how they help each other.

“Before I ended, I thought it was about ball. Man, I want to stay by the game, near the game, and win and be great on defense,” Freeman said. “I was a GA at Ohio State and I coached the drop end position. I remember making one of these tip sheets and one of my guys made a sack in the first game and he came over to the sideline. We’re hugging and just celebrating. At that moment I said that’s what it’s about. It’s about helping young people have success.
“That’s why you do it. It’s not to be the head coach at Notre Dame. This is a great platform for me, but those dudes, I love them. I love them, and I want to see them succeed. That’s really what I gained a passion for.”
Whole lot of nothing in that, really.
Freeman mentioned The Gug needing a kitchen and a place where the team can all eat together. Is that going to be part of The Gug plan?
Nope, they are going to have a variety of Hot Pockets available at a wide range of temperatures and a Nespresso Vertuo caffeination station.
Pretty ridiculous for a program as large as ND.Swarbrick strikes again
Rolfs isn't for students anymore. Its the basketball practice facility.Pretty ridiculous for a program as large as ND.
Knock down Rolfs athletic hall, build something amazing or refurbish it for all of our student athletes and then find a new spot for Rolfs athletic hall for all students.
I think it was all in the JACC. I remember as a kid watching Rodney Culver and Jerome Bettis walk out of the locker room there to the stadium for a practice.Where were the ND football locker rooms/coaches offices before the GUG?
Ah, thank you.Rolfs isn't for students anymore. Its the basketball practice facility.
But it’s all Lean PocketsNope, they are going to have a variety of Hot Pockets available at a wide range of temperatures and a Nespresso Vertuo caffeination station.
Prister article from 6/13/23“Operating space is No. 1,” said Swarbrick of the proposed renovation. “Every college football staff has grown. Ours has too. We just don’t have enough room for people to work. They’re on top of each other and they’re using odd spaces. So that’s No. 1.
“No. 2 is the spaces that we accommodate the functions that we’ve grown into. So more of a sports science presence, a nutrition presence, those sorts of things will be very important.
“There will be some form of a dining area or training table part of it as well that tends to get, frankly, a little bit of an excessive focus. Our student-athletes -- the football team -- feels great about how it operates right now. But we want to invest in that.
“So it’s the functional things. If people are looking for some of the bells and whistles that other (places) have decided to (build), that’s not us. It’s about functionality.”
So forget about water slides and miniature golf courses. Notre Dame’s renovated Guglielmino Athletics Complex will address practicality over extravagance.
But it’s all Lean Pockets
The reason why they haven't is because ND is different than almost all other schools and were trying to keep the student athletes with the general pop and not sequester them away from the student body. This obviously has not gone well but it is also why they do not do athletic dorms and such. They wanted student athletes to be a part of the general student body and interact with the academically inclined students. I actually like that part and should be a selling point for ND. They can sell the connections the athletes will make with some of the brightest and hard working students in the world and that will set them up for future success and networking opportunities.ND should have their own private chefs and nutritionist on campus Duke basketball does no reason why our football team can’t
Yep. It has been a little bit, but an All-American OL who went on to spend a decade in the NFL lived in my section and roomed with a couple of my buddies in a quad one year. And he was cool as hell and I like to think he benefitted from the experience of living with us like a fairly normal college student, too.The reason why they haven't is because ND is different than almost all other schools and were trying to keep the student athletes with the general pop and not sequester them away from the student body. This guy gets itPrister article from 6/13/23
Good rule of thumb is to just fuck off and look it up myself. I should know better.
He should ty to get that OSU D-line coach as D coordinator.Could be another busy busy off season after this the season is done. He might have to make some coaching decisions of the defensive side of the ball.
