sorry if i missed a related thread...

“If somebody said you’re picking an upset, I’d say, that’s not an upset, an upset is what his mother would be if I picked against her son,” Lou said last week at a fundraiser in South Florida. “There’s no way in the world I’d cheer against my son. Make no mistake, I want the world to know, I am for the South Florida Bulls.”

Slightly acceptable? or perfectly understandable? ...... maybe both?

I know he's getting old but im sure he's aware of whats going on in south bend right now.

So in other words, he knows ND is the better team, but he has to go with family or his wife will kill him haha

Yeah. I don't think he's saying USF is the better team, just that he can't pick against family.

Its all good. I love my brothers and sister to death, but if I was in some competition with them, it would be no holds barred. The gloves would come off, then, after I whopped that a s s, I'd give em a hug.

Haha it's totally cool. Lou's gotta pull for his son man, he knows what it would mean for skip if he came in here and beat THIS ND team.

Lou's gonna be driving the ND bandwagon this year and it's gonna be amazing..but just not this one game.

I would agree that it would be ok if it was his brother or sister but you have to root for your child (USF) over your own interests (ND). I completely respect Lou's choice on this one as long as he is rooting for us the other 11 games.

We all know "God, Country, Notre Dame", which is a play off of "God, Country, Family." Lou's just keeping his priorities straight.

It'd be a different story if it was your son...the son that decided to follow in your footsteps.

I can't blame Lou. I'd pull for Skip if he was my boy too and he was coaching against the place I made my name at.

Alright he is now dropped down my list of favorite coaches. He is somewhere between Davie and Faust.

I read somewhere else where someone said, "Lou fails the test of Abraham; he favors blood over God.".

I laughed...

It was on the video of the panel interview with Kelly, Parseghian, and Holtz

Unacceptable. Take the statue down.

This thread makes me proud to be a ND fan -- at least we keep things in perspective.

And I'm not savvy enough to quote [more than one person] in a post, but whoever wrote about donating books to protestants: I literally laughed out loud.

Can't blame Lou at all. I love the Holtz family. I'll be pulling for Skip this year, too, aside from the first game. :)

If Lou had handled it any other way, I'd have thought that he was a bent-out-of-shape man. I have greater affection for Lou, if possible, after that. [And my 95 year old Mom has an autographed picture of her and Lou when he presented my brother with the Ohio Valley sportsman of the year award... Lou's big in my family].

I can't help but notice what colors his tie is as he's saying "I'm for South Florida"....

Really, its very respectable for him to pull for family first. Its the sign of a man with his priorities in order. He does ND proud.
