Leprechaun Tryout Finals are today at 6 pm in the Pit.

Why do you say that?

My feeling: the leprechaun is annoying no matter what. He's not cool or funny or intimidating. Mascots should be 1 of those 3. So while seeing Johnny on my TV gets on my nerves every time, he is significantly less annoying than some of his predecessors.

Oddly enough I find the most determinitive factor in my feelings towards the leprechaun is whether we're winning...

Some pretty weak sauce candidates save a few.

The Leprechaun during the 2012 season was pretty outstanding IMO. He had the red beard and even did the Irish jig on Gameday.
The 2013 version was extremely underwhelming and as a result you hardly saw the Leprechaun on TV last year.

Coincidence in on the field success during those years respectively? I think not.

I thought about trying out my freshman year.

Two things: I was too tall at all of 5'7". (The first and only time in my life that I was "too tall" for damn near anything – except the Lollipop Guild.) I also couldn't sprout a beard, red or otherwise.

Any jig I may have danced would have been a Grateful Dead infused whirligig sorta thingie.

There was a year when "we" had a Black/Afro-American/African American Leprechaun. I had no idea until I'd driven through the night from MPLS to SB for a USC game.

I arrived on campus at 6 am and was to meet a classmate at 10 am. I strolled the campus and then settled in for a a much needed nap on the South Quad. I was awakened by a student pipe band and the Leprechaun strutting the campus.

I was impressed, tickled and proud. I wish that I'd had my grandfather's shillelagh at my side.

Friends always told me to I should've tried out for leprechaun during my time at ND...I always thought I had a few things against me..
1) I was 6ft
2) I am black
3) Whenever I tried to grow a beard, it always grew in patches, which made me feel like paul pierce
4) I definitely would've gotten in trouble a la the Stanford tree or the Oregon duck

Mike Brown was pretty good at it, thought he was the first (only?) black one we had.

Whoever it is better be able to put up 50+ pushups b/c we gonna score this year!
