The hit Netflix documentary series “Last Chance U” returns July 20 for a third installment. Unlike the first two seasons, however, Season 3 will come with a completely new cast and location. “Last Chance U” will move away from East Mississippi Community College to Independence Community College in Kansas.
You’ll find out plenty about that program and its players over the coming weeks. But today, we want to provide a spoiler-free preview of Season 3 by highlighting the likely stars and who they were before they arrived at Independence CC.
Ranging from top-ranked QBs to SEC signees, America’s favorite junior college experience is sure to be an interesting one.
Malik Henry, QB, Florida State
The highest-profile player on the show, Henry’s path to Independence is decently known at this point. The No. 49 overall prospect in the 2016 class per the 247Sports Composite, Henry signed with Florida State out of high school and looked to potentially be the next guy in line for what is a long succession Seminole NFL quarterbacks.
Instead, Henry never took a snap at Florida State.
Head coach Jimbo Fisher suspended Henry indefinitely for a violation of team rules in the August prior to his true freshman season. Florida State reinstated Henry a month later, but Henry never did see the field.
Henry announced his attention to transfer in December of 2016.
That was actually the second time in two years Henry transferred. He left IMG Academy in Florida before his senior year of high school to play at Long Beach Poly in California.
Emmit Gooden, DT, Mississippi State (Commit)
Gooden initially committed to Mississippi State in the 2016 class, but he was a non-qualifier and had to take the JUCO route. A four-star prospect, Gooden ranked as the nation’s No. 316 overall player and No. 16 SDE.
This is what Gooden told 247Sports at the start of his JUCO experience in January of 2016.
"Classes are going good and it was important for me to get started early. I know how much I love football. So it is best to get this over with as soon as possible so I can be at Mississippi State and in the SEC. I am trying my best to be in the 2017 class and Mississippi State has talked to me about that."
Rakeem Boyd, RB, Texas A&M
A three-star Texas A&M signee out of high school, Boyd ranked as the No. 447 overall prospect nationally during the 2016 cycle. He redshirted during his freshman season and opted to transfer to Independence in May of 2017.
Boyd did not arrive at Texas A&M until the fall of his freshman year due to academic issues, and those snowballed into his first semester on campus, according to a report from 247Sports after Boyd’s transfer.
A Houston native, Boyd rushed for a combined 3,915 yards and 48 touchdowns during his junior and senior high school seasons.
Carlos Thompson, WR, Texas Tech/Garden City CC
Thompson’s had a winding path on his way to “Last Chance U.”
A three-star prospect in the 2013 class, Thompson signed with Texas Tech out of Manvel High School in Houston. Thompson played in five games for the Red Raiders as a true freshman, primarily in a special teams role. Per Thompson’s Texas Tech bio, he did not see the field the following season. Thompson opted to transfer to Garden City Community College in the summer of 2015, per a report from JUCO Football.
Thompson came to Independence following his stint at Garden City. He saw the field at Independence for the first time in 2017.
Bobby Bruce, LB, Titusville HS (FL)
A native of Titusville, Florida, Bruce is one of the show’s biggest mysteries entering Season 3. Bruce was initially a member of the 2017 class and did not have a ranking in the 247Sports Composite database. He was a 5-foot-11.5, 199-pound outside linebacker in high school, according to his profile.
2. We need a viable semiprofessional football league. Forcing these people to go to college is borderline cruel.
Some people don't belong in a classroom. Giving grown men assignments fit for 8th graders and pretending what they're doing is somehow deserving of actual college credit isn't doing them any favors.I think I know where your going here but do you care to expand on this thought?

Jason Brown got shit-canned: http://www.espn.com/college-footbal...oach-jason-brown-resigns-text-exchange-player
He was texting a German-born player and telling them to show up at the field for a disciplinary workout, and said "I am your new Hitler figure."
He then blamed the local newspaper for his "resignation," saying that their reporting on the text message had created an environment in which he couldn't work lol.

i am five episodes in, i'm not liking this season as much. not as many memorable characters
Bobby Bruce is an interesting story... but I want to see actual football and meltdowns on the sidelines.
(I'm only two episodes in, though)

This season isn’t as good. JB is just drunk the whole time and I get a serial killer vibe from the radio guy.
