Also, just looked at how they performed this season...they went from "I think we'll be playing for a national championship" to 2-8. Big oof.

Jeff Simms at Garden City really comes across as a psychopath but DII Missouri Southern hired him.

College athletics summed up on one post. That guy is a complete douche nozzle. He also had a player die on his watch.

Jay Jones seems like a nice kid, but did he really sign with Georgia Tech not understanding the kind of offense they ran wasn't going to allow him to throw the ball much?

This really stood out to me... but he did mention that his recruitment basically disappeared for a year because he went off the radar while his dad was recovering from that bad accident.

Makes me think that there is a chance that GT used the short recruitment period to sell him a bill of goods on what he could do in their offense just to get his commitment, and he legitimately didn't know about the QB's role in their triple option.

It's more likely that the short recruiting period made him jump on his biggest commitable offer, regardless of fit, though.

I've always believed that adults are the bigger part of the problem when it comes to college football. Last Chance U does a nice job of validating that for me on several levels. I don't know that I'd hire guys like Jason Brown or Jeff Sims to work cleaning out cages in a zoo let alone put them in charge of a college football program. On that note, you couldn't pay me enough to coach at the JUCO level.

After watching Last Chance U, I really wonder whether all JUCO coaches have some kind of problem. Everyone thought Buddy Stephens was crazy but, after seeing Brown and Simms it seems to be more of a trend than a one off.

What was most stricking about seeing Garden City was how seemingly disciplined they were compared to either Indy or EMCC. Obviously, we are only seeing a tiny fraction of their season but it seems that Simms has a lot more control over the kids than either of the other schools. Not defending him (he clearly has some issues), I just thought it was surprising.

I agree. You have to come from a certain mindset to want to coach a JUCO program like those. You have to be a little crazy yourself.

I thought the coach from the team they played in Iowa Western (when Coach Brown got ejected) seemed very normal in the footage they showed of him, which wasn't much. Scott Strohmeier was his name.

I think Simms is a coward punk. I've never seen anyone act like that and then immediately flip the switch after the game was over. He kept telling his players "don't act like them" and then when they won the game he immediately proceeded to talk shit to the other coaches, and did so while running away to the locker room. It was bush league.

I get there is history and bad blood between to the two, but I think Simms knew damn well those cameras were on him too and he made the most of that.

Where's that at? I can't find it. The only "where are they now?" I found was from EMCC.

It’s different. I think it’s a better look at what JUCO facilities really look like. You realize how good EMCC and even Independence had it. Still enjoyed it though.

Yes they have a CB on there that ended up going to Oregon State with his older brother that was already there. Still researching others but as said previously its a better snapshot of what real JUCO football is IMO. The coach is a lot more down to earth also.

I watched the first episode. The coaches and players don't appear to be colossal knuckleheads like at the previous two schools in the series.

Spoke to the issue that players need to find their own housing but the area is mega gentrified and it is thus very expensive.

Looking forward to finishing it up over the weekend.

Finished it up over the weekend.

1. Beam is easily the most likable coach of the three in the series. Not as entertaining as the other two goofs, though.

2. The gentrification angle regarding Oakland made this far more interesting than that of the EMCC and IC seasons of the show.

3. Hard not to root for Dior. I hope things work out for him. Ray Ray was easily most like the kids from EMCC and IC but was still pretty likable.

4. Sad to see this series go for football, but the basketball version should be pure drama. Looking forward to it.
