Give him credit for what he did with Blake Sims. Nobody expected this from Sims. Lane did a great job play calling, but the miracle he worked with Sims was amazing.

Yeah I agree. He has done a great job working with Sims and the offense as a whole. I have always thought he was a really good play caller. I didn't expect him to be as effective as he has been but getting Sims to where he is right now is a miracle.

I think we need to come to terms with the fact that Kiffey boy just may be a stellar OC. Terrible fucking HC, but a stellar OC.

If you saw what he did at USC under Pete Carroll you had to know that he is a good OC. He just doesn't have what it takes to be a head coach.

So does he go after a head coaching job this offseason? I would assume opportunities will be there for him.

Bet he gets another HC offer in the near future!

I imagine if things continue to go well at 'Bama for him, which they should, he will eventually try his hand at head coaching again. Given time, he'll make the case that USC was under sanctions and such, he's learned from the experience, etc. I'm not sure what excuse he could use for the Tennesee and Raiders jobs....I mean, when Al Davis says you're bad, you're bad. Someone will take a chance on him, just like they did with Weis, foolish as that may be.

He actually did pretty well at Tenn given the situation he took over. Leaving Tenn the way he did... different story. I won't knock his NFL stint nor will I take Al Davis' advice on him. A lot of college coaches fail in the NFL for whatever reason. Wonder Boy will get his chance in the future to prove if he is a HC. I have my doubts but I don't think USC or Tenn will be his measuring stick.

You can't tar anybody for not being successful with the Raiders, with or without Al Davis, they simply are not committed to winning

Oh, he'll get another chance, if he wants it. If Chaz Weis can get another chance, so can Lane Kiffin.

Agree. Although I think he's a bag of dicks, he did good things for UT while he was there. They played well, and he recruited well. His leaving is another story altogether. In hindsight, I bet he wished he'd stayed. USC (sanctions) and the Raiders (a giant bag of dicks) are not the best situations to succeed. He'll certainly get his chance to HC again, but honestly I hope he crashes, burns, and his wife leaves him and moves next door to me.

I could be wrong, but I don't think so. My understanding is that he made a commitment to Saban to stay for at least two years. I think another year of being the OC and rehabilitating his image, not to mention just continuing to mature, would put him in a much better position to be a HC at a major program. I think he'll probably become a HC again, but I think it's probably a mistake. As others have said, he's a hell of an OC, but not suited for the big office.

To be fair, he was at USC right when they were getting crushed by sanctions. We really have no idea what he can be when he has full reign over a healthy program.

You could be right. My feeling was that his problems as a HC had less to do with sanctions than with maturity and attitude, though. Probably a little of both. Granted, Saban's kept him on a short leash all year, but Lane seems to have grown up and eliminated the jackassery he exhibited in the past.

When he had a full allotment of 85 scholarships, he went 10-2. But most of those players were Carroll's players.

I think we are understating the value of him learning from Saban. I believe he will be more successful the next time around (not that I want him to be).

He and his game plan were awful. Their d stunk, but how in the world Henry wasn't fed the ball is beyond me. Way to pass happy and it cost them.

How long till the announcement on ESPN? Unless Saban keeps him around to torture him and smash his wife.

Good to see you guys are as insane with other coaching staffs as you are with our own. It was a bad game, but he's been one hell of an OC this year. He's not getting fired.

He was an idiot tonight. Henry could have ran for 300 yards tonight. Instead he tried tricking a team that knew what was coming,

The man was gifted an Aston Martin and made it run like a Thunderbird. Not calling for his dismissal but he shat the bed again.

kiffin is the same ol' dude we all know and love. All season long I kept hearing how great of a job he is doing in that OC position.

Not all, but most forget to add in that he has the best athletes to work with, and the program is well established with a lot of depth at most positions. but ok, Kiffin can call good games when he has the best athletes, i'll give him that.

To me, I saw a very telling graphic during the game tonight that made me think same ol' kiffin. They showed the stats of Alabama's top 2 WR's for the year, and the massive difference between their #1 guy (118 catches) and their #2 guy (37 catches), just like it was with Marquis Lee and Robert Woods and the Marquis Lee and Nelson Agholor; I saw Amari Cooper talking to the QB in the very same manner I watched Marquis Lee talked to the QB at SC. Kiffin ran the same type of offense this year, that is has ALWAYS ran, except he is back in a situation where he has the best athletes, so he had some success. Kiffin finds something that works(reggie bush, marquis lee, amari cooper), and does repeatedly until it doesn't work anymore, and then he will run it more.

Ohio State's pick6 by the Dlineman was a great call, and whoever called that knew how Kiffin loved to call the Slant-go(Slugo) in those situations.

Same ol' Kiffin

Kiffin's got a good thing going, I'm sure Saban isn't going to let him go after one game (Despite how big it was). That disappoints me, because Lane is most entertaining as a head coach.

I though he did an OK job in the first half. That WR dropped to key 3rd passes not sure how far those dives would have gone but I know those drops didn't help.

I didn't watch much of the 2nd half so I can't judge that.

Not Kiffin's best game and one I think he will learn from moving forward. I think when he watches the film he will see that he should have ran the ball more. Slinging the rock around is exciting, but running between the tackles effectively is typically gonna win the big games. Excited to see next fall how he progresses.

The play calling was not stellar (for either team in the 4th quarter), but my bigger concern as someone who was rooting for Bama was the total mismanagement of the clock on the last possession. Not sure if maybe they just aren't used to being in that situation, but it was handled very poorly.
