Why not?

Most of us on this Board see things through blue and gold colored lenses. If you separate yourself from your love of Notre Dame, one can clearly see why Texas would be the better choice - both in terms of $, recruiting, and the potential for long-term success.

Or look at it the other way around. Why couldn't we pry Bob Stoops away from Oklahoma if Notre Dame was equivalent or better to Texas?

do you really think them good ole boys down in Austin in their ten gallon hats want an irish catholic democrat from Boston running that program...and do you really think that same irish guy wants to leave Notre Dame to go coach there?
stop looking at things only in terms of money, and break it down to the people involved in all these things.
i will bet anything i have he is never their coach. and mostly because they wouldnt want him.

You stated he would never leave for another college coaching gig.....not Texas only.

In response to your question/comment, If the Texas brass think Brian Kelly could win at Texas I think they'd take him in a heartbeat......regardless of his religious and political views.

and i stand by him never leaving ND for another college gig.

as for your second comment, i dont want sound like a dick, but you simply dont know the state of texas or their university or how things work down there if you honestly feel that way. Kelly would be a fish out of water down there.

Isn't Austin the Liberal part of Texas? People's Republic of Austin or something like that.

I don't believe in coaches commitments. They are worthless. I had high hopes for BK being around for a bit but after the Eagles flirtation last year I have little hope he'll be around much longer. And when the day comes that a post gets put on these boards I won't be surprised.

Stop looking at money? Money is the only thing driving anything in college sports.

3 points why *I* would go to Texas.

1. Austin vs S. Bend. No brainer here.
2. Texas in house recruiting stable.
3. Unlimited resources and on a less note academics.

"Keep Austin Weird" has been the catchphrase there for awhile. It is a liberal oasis surrounded by conservative Texas.

*Just like the rest of the state though, native Texans in Austin truly believe they are their own nation in spirit, so Kelly being a "fish out of water" holds a little weight.

Please, enlighten us.

IMO, you are severely underestimating the cure all called "winning".

wake me when Brian Kelly shows up on any kind of "list" for the Texas job.

he wasnt even rumored to be going there. (mark mays asshat comment doesnt count for shite)

and yet, you are debating the merits of ND job vs the TX job?

am i missing something here?

this truly is the silly season...

I spent the early nineties in the Austin area.
It's very liberal and probably the coolest college town I've ever experienced.
Basically grew up bar scene-wise in Austin.
Got there at the age of 19 with a fake id in hand, and was blown away with the women/atmosphere.
I was so disappointed when I got back to Chicago and found out everywhere wasn't like there.

That being said, Kelly isn't nineteen.

Well, as much as we all hate how he did it, Mark May added him to "the list". He is free to make up a list of candidates just like the other TV personalities and journalists do.

I am still waiting for my enlightenment.

And for the record, my prediction on the Texas job has always been Gundy.

Texas: Chip Brown of OrangeBloods.com reports that Louisville head coach Charlie Strong is interviewing today for the head coaching job at Texas. Texas has already interviewed James Franklin, according to Chip Brown. A source tells CoachingSearch that Texas also has interest in UCLA head coach Jim Mora.

I am new to this fan page we can't I post in the chat box

This is your one and only post. I believe you have to have hit a certain number post count prior to posting in the chat. But I could be wrong. Also, the chat is almost exclusively used during, and only during, games. Its keeps the board less cluttered. It'll be a long while before you'll see people in there again.

So I wake up this morning and yay! Rumors that not only Kelly is still going to the Lion but also he may go to Texas as well…at the same time, he'll coach both teams simultaneously.

Multi-tasking at its finest.

Think of the Frequent Flyer Miles he'd pocket!!!

Austin is as attractive, and probably more attractive than just about any other gig in college football. As an example, if the UT job had come up at the same time as the 'Bama job, and Saban was offered both, I'd have to think he goes to Texas. It's a bit different story now as he's already got a sure thing and enough cash, which is probably why he didn't make the move this year. That, and I can't imagine starting over.

I agree with everything you just said, and I just had my own post stating why the TX job is more desirable to many over ND.

HOWEVER, one thing I haven't seen mentioned (forgive me if I missed it) that ROYALLY sucks for coaches is the Longhorn Network. With how close to the vest so many coaches handle their programs, the LN is extremely intrusive, time-consuming, and annoying. They need to fill air space, and so they exploit their football program daily.

That SUCKS balls for coaches. Sure, it's great exposure (for those 132 people who have that channel), but it also shows a lot of the program that coaches don't want outsiders (read: other programs) to see. ND does what, one or two half-hour or hr long programs a year? Try doing several of those A WEEK. It has to be a major pain for the coach, and Mack Brown complained about it a lot.

So while it sucks for ND coaches to travel the nation to recruit, and to travel the nation speaking at alumni functions instead of recruiting, it also blows for the Texas coach to have to deal with the Longhorn Network.

Dungy would be a no brainer, and Lovie would be a good choice too. Caldwell was a horrible coach at Indy in IMO. Peyton proved to be why Caldwell was as good as he was.
