What's the point of this? Isn't football supposed to be fun? How did these facemasks take away from the game? I really don't understand this and the ball spinning one.

I thought Tucks original face mask was supposed to have some safety benefits to it? Calabrese and Tuitt are rocking the one Tuck wore last year.

I remember Tuck saying it helped keep OL fingers out of his face/eyes. That's a safety benefit. I really don't see the logic behind this move. Seems unnecessary.

Whoa. The league banned those? They should be promoting them to all players! Suddenly the ever so dangerous facemask penalty is done!

NFL bars too many bars on facemasks | FOX Sports on MSN

Brandon Spikes won't look quite as intimidating in 2014, and that's not only because he'll be wearing Buffalo Bills red, white and blue rather than New England Patriots blue, silver and red.

The facemask Spikes wore in 2013 will be banned by the NFL next season, NFL Media's Ian Rapoport reported Monday. The NFL is putting an end to "non-standard/overbuilt," or "Bane"-style facemasks due to safety concerns.

The non-standard facemask was made popular by current Oakland Raiders defensive end Justin Tuck when he played for the New York Giants.

Rapoport obtained a memo sent out by NFL executive vice president of football operations Troy Vincent, who said the masks add weight to helmets that can cause neck fatigue, causing players to lead with the head.

That makes no sense. "Neck fatigue"...as if NFL players, particularly lineman, have weak necks that can't handle a few extra ounces over the course of a game.

Retired Today.

One of my favorite all-time players. His picture was my avatar for my first couple of years on IE.

Still can remember him laying the smackdown down at Rocky Top and then listening to their local sports talk show about how he was a man playing against boys. My brother, dad and I got a good chuckle out of that.
