I never thought I'd see the day... still not sure if he'll clear admissions and doesn't have an offer yet, but this is an interesting step in an interesting direction.

Next we need a bajillion JUCO DL and LB.

Very big deal. One would think that Kelly wouldn't be entertaining a JuCo RB for the banquet unless he'd already gotten some significant concessions from Admissions.

As long as he/they can meet academic transfer requirements and hold their own in the classroom, I'm all for it.

Wow. Shocking and exciting. This is a road we need to be willing to travel if we want to avoid the depth issues we are having now.

Is it an OV? If so that he means he has already gotten a preliminary go-ahead from admissions. Transcripts on file, etc.

Just saw this on ISD. Seems to be a unique situation in terms of fit and circumstance, so not a open the flood gates type thing. That being said...

Aw hell yea.

Anyone know what year he is? The highlights say freshman, so I assume he's one year into Juco? So he'd be coming in as a true sophomore?

I was hoping for an apocalyptic-flood gate opening. But I'll take it for now. Give me all the JUCOS!

Yes "sophomore" in terms of eligibility.
That's probably the only way we could ever do this. It's unlikely that any of his JUCO credits will transfer into ND so he'll be academically a freshman. He'll be able to graduate in his three remaining years with summer school but there's no way an incoming junior would be able to graduate on time if forced to "start over."

i have been asking this for a very long time: why doesnt Holy Cross College have a football team? They could stack it with players that really want a chance at coming to ND and run all the same schemes and stuff. So if we need somebody mid-season, we just grab a quick transfer student that's familiar with everything already.

Right, and the word is that if Jeremy Smith picks ND, he would enroll in January, so he will have three and a half years, plus summer school, to graduate before his eligibility runs out. That's plenty of time. All football players are put on track to graduate in 7 semesters with summer school.

Personally I don't see anything wrong with taking guys who can graduate within the five-year span. Disregard their freshman year, start over academically, and take your four years if you need it.
