Guice announced? When? Where? Do you have a cite or is this another rumor like the Mack thread?

A Google search turned up nothing from Derrius Guice in the past week after he started missing practices. There are links to broad comments dated 12/5-12/10.

You can go back to your basement now,

LSU RB Derrius Guice not skipping Citrus Bowl: 'I'm loyal to my team!' | NOLA.com

He hasn’t said anything since this to contradict his statement. Now run to the internet and spend the next two weeks trying to play “gotcha”. Sad.

Was that so hard to provide some substance?

It was a simple question. And the answer is no, he apparently hasn't said anything since he stopped going to practice.

I was thinking about this. I'm thinking our TEs could/should make the difference in keeping LSU honest. Of course we would have to blow the dust off the playbook to incorporate them. I think they are the answer.

Reiterating a point I made yesterday: (1) with Brock injured and Mack suspended, the only scholarship TEs available are Smythe, Weisher and (freshman) Kmet; and (2) three of LSU's four starting DBs are 6'2'' - 6'3'', so our TEs won't have much of a height advantage. Given our lack of production from that position recently, Wimbush's struggles moving the ball through the air, and the size/ speed of LSU's secondary, I don't think our TEs are going to keep the Tigers honest defensively.

this is from 2 days ago https://www.seccountry.com/lsu/ed-orgeron-updates-lsu-rb-derrius-guices-status-citrus-bowl
LSU running back Derrius Guice hasn’t practiced this week, but coach Ed Orgeron isn’t concerned.

Orgeron said that he doesn’t expect Guice to practice at any point this week, but Guice should be available after Christmas. As a result, Orgeron said he expects Guice to play in the Citrus Bowl versus Notre Dame.

“I talked to Derrius today,” Orgeron said. :He’s nursing an injury. I don’t expect him to practice this week. He’ll practice next week. I expect him to play in the bowl.”

Guice’s status is shrouded in mystery, partially because of the complex nature of his future. The junior running back hasn’t declared for the 2018 NFL Draft yet, but he is a projected first-round pick. Thanks to the wave of touted, NFL-caliber running backs who have voluntarily skipped their bowl games to stay healthy for the NFL, including former LSU back Leonard Fournette, questions are circulating about whether Guice would do the same.

In the past, Guice has said he’d want to play in LSU’s bowl game, whatever it is. This makes the injury excuse more valid, especially when you consider the nagging knee injury sustained in fall camp that has hampered Guice all of 2017
.

Orgeron might expect Guice to play

so to me he can use the "i'm hurt" excuse (very valid though as i am sure he is) and say he would have but this also gives him the pass of further injury and play himself out of the 1st round....I AGREE actions speak much louder and therefore i don't believe he will play

Yup. As long as there's any ambiguity about the situation, Orgeron would be a fool to definitively rule Guice out. Would give our staff an advantage in not having to prepare for him.

With all the controversy on this game, I wouldn't be surprised at all if it was a mirror-image of the Navy/Army game this year. I suspect there is going to be a $hit-ton of running going on.

controversy - Wimbush with no-one to throw to....

So does ND go full house backfield or triple option?

In these situations if you're not 100% sure a player will be out, you always prepare as if they will be playing.

He may be taking a new stance. Where the others have skipped practice and the bowl game, he may be skipping practice only to reduce his chances of an injury. If this is the position he is taking, I don't think he will be able to perform at a high level. You need those practice reps to stay sharp, condition, etc.

This is like the people who were glad Bama was our opponent in the NC. "Got to beat the best to be the best." Fuck that. I just want to go out with a W. I wouldn't care if LSU had nothing but walk-ons using canes.

Why are we giving them canes if they're having trouble walking? You're too generous!

100% correct. At the end of the day, the W in the W/L column is what people see, not who did or did not play in the game.

No, those people were crazy. And I told them so, but LSU isn't Bama.

They're missing 3 of their starting front 7 for this game. If we can't dominate them up front, Harry should hand deliver the Joe Moore award back to the NCAA.

We don't need their star offensive player out on top of that. We won 9 games against a great schedule, and their front 7 is depleted. Let's show up and act like it.

This team has a lot of pride. They want to go out on a positive note. Adams should be 100% free of lingering bumps, bruises, nicks, dings, etc.

100% agree. If ND cant move the ball on this newblood defense, maybe it is time to join the MAC?

If we don't run the ball very well vs LSU, take a moment and ask yourselves why before criticizing Harry and the OLine. If LSU stacks the box, well, watch the actual blocking. If our studs get blocks but the TEs don't --- get off the OLine's back. If our guys AND the TE get blocks, and they've got seven or eight crowding, and the DC is calling the blitzes better than Long is calling the plays, then get off the OLine's and Harry's back. If we're blocking them but Wimbush isn't decisive and running wild against their overloads, then get off the OLine's and Harry's back.

In short: actually watch the whole game, not just whether some pretty boy with the ball is running free or getting stuffed.

the game rests with our D and Wimbush.

Tell me I'm not reading this quote correctly.

Tell me I'm not reading this quote correctly.

Wimbush said he didn’t need the break to work on fundamentals that factored into his accuracy issues, but he appreciated the change in focus during December.

You don’t have to work on reading someone, reading a defense, understanding what they’re gonna do,” Wimbush said. “You’re back to just throwing the football like you were in seventh grade.”

https://247sports.com/college/notre...-expects-to-show-growth-against-LSU-112797172

He had a month to work on fundamentals, review film, get in sync with the few receivers left to suit for the game, work on the read option, and the program was to ignore the defense alignment, coverage, and reads, don't worry about the WR breaking outside while you're throwing inside.

Instead, focus was "ESB, I'll hit you at the first manhole cover. Boykin head for the red Chevy."

I believe it was blue chevy. 1973 Vega to be exact.

In all honesty, I hope that's not what he meant.
