Kiffin has failed upwardly many times in his career already. There's no reason why Kelly couldn't do it once, especially given his record pre-ND.
LOL that article draws from that Bernstein piece which is laughably inaccurate hot garbage? Jeez...
Being serious for a second though, I think there is reasonable chance Kelly could end up at the Bears, Giants, 49ers, or Dolphins depending on what opens. But there isn't anything to warrant even discussion right now.
Wouldn't be surprised at all if Kelly bolts. It's his nature and after the frozen five stuff went down I kind of expected it. Hope not.
Just now on his show
"there will be some changes that are possibly going to be made in south bend in the college football program."
"what that means? i'm not even certain at this point."
he keeps saying that he is not trying to be first with news, but wanted to alert people to pay attention.
"it is nothing that is out of control. take a deep breath."
Then Gino Toretta says, "all that should tell us is that we won't be surprised at coaching moves before it is all said and done."
I don't know if that last part let things slip or if that's even connected to ND, but Toretta finished after Arute's statement.
Edit: after a break, he came back and let the cat out of the bag. "fine. your head coach is being courted."
"my intention is not to come across as Joe Schad." LOL
I actually think Kelly would be more successful in the NFL than what he currently is at ND. His business/Politician like approach will probably go over well at the next level. And, if he goes, he goes. Let's build on all the good that has happened over the last five years. This program was a dumpster fire when he took over.
As for Jack Arute? That was pretty horrible reporting. Get the fan base all hyped up for some breaking news and then throw this out there? Of course Kelly is being pursued - you think we aren't bright enough to expect this every year? Ridiculous...
Arute didnt say anything about Kelly leaving, that article wasn't related to him.
Or am i missing something?

I'm a big fan of Tony's, so I hope he gets the CSU job and does well. But he's a long way down the list of coaches I'd like to see as Kelly's successor. We've twice hired guys without any HCing experience before, and both were unmitigated disasters.

I don't want BK to leave, but I really don't think any NFL fanbase should be excited if their team hires him.
Life-long college coach who seems to be more motivator than a scheme guy. Only 8 years of coaching big-time football (if you count Cincy that with the old Big East). I don't think he's proven nearly enough for an NFL team to want him.
Again, I'd be pretty pissed if he left....but I just don't think he's an elite guy that NFL teams should be drooling over.
A poster on BGI asked Jack on twitter if it involved Kelly and the NFL and he said yes.
I personally would hate to see Kelly leave. If he does. ROW THE BOAT!! Bring in PJ Fleck from Western Michigan University.
Seriously? Haven't you seen his offense.......it is a pass first league now.
See above
Guess what arute did today? Had a ton of listeners and clicks on his website. He also had message boards talking about him for a day and a half. Job well done.

I also live in southwest michigan. He is very personable and proving to be a great recruiter and developer. Just not sure if he is ready for the big time.I live in WMU country. Everyone loves him and his catch phrase has really caught on.

In all seriousness though. Kinda makes sense why Kelly hired Vangorder. Pro style defense and this year helped them work directly together for a year before heading to the NFL. I hope it's not true.
And what I'm saying is what coach is his position wouldn't be. How many lifetime coaches are there at those programs he's recently been at? Where did Urban start? Where did Saban start? The point is all coaches are climbers until they get to a spot that they enjoy being at. To say that coach Kelly is different or its in his nature is ridiculous because its in all coaches nature to coach at a higher level than GVSU or UC.
I disagree. I think he'd be great in the NFL because he IS a scheme guy. When he's got everything in place and a QB that can protect the ball (like at UC), he can put a nearly unstoppable gameplan together. For whatever reason, it hasn't all come together at ND. Some of that is on Kelly, some of that is on players, and some of that is on recruiting. In the NFL, he won't have to worry about quality of players (probably) or recruiting. He'll have to worry about motivating his players, putting a gameplan together (the scUM and FSU games showed that he can still do this with the best of them), and developing rookies (he's always been great with player development).
