I'm telling you what... those are some damn solid highlights for half of a junior year. He's not as much of an athlete as Dillman... but Barnett is pretty freaking all-around boss. Might be my #1 realistic want now if Rosen/Town/Gibson aren't options.

I like that I can see pretty drastic improvement from sophmore to Junior film. Means his body is catching up to his size and he's clearly working on his game.

The note on Elam has me perplexed. Does that mean we have a really good shot with him or we aren't in very good standing with the others?

BTW I love me some Blake Barnett highlights. Total sleeper right now.

<object width="420" height="315"><param name="movie" value="//www.youtube.com/v/93UqTlmyhMM?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="//www.youtube.com/v/93UqTlmyhMM?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="420" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

Not a blazing fast athlete, but very fluid. Wish he had a more compact throwing motion but he can spin it.

I thought the same thing. I wouldn't be upset at all if he's our QB in next years class.

It means that of the available NG/DT out there he's our most likely land. I, personally, think we have a better shot than most thing. Most think we really trail Kentucky and Alabama. I don't see him at Kentucky.

Elam might be our best shot at interior DL? What about Holley? Did ND slip that far down the list for him?

Edit: Already answered...

Thanks LAX

Yeah, watching this junior year film... wow. He could be GREAT in the right system. Kind of reminds me of a better Taylor Kelly in high school. The other comparison being thrown around some is of Marcus Mariota. I'd take either of those guys any day, any time.

I thought Mariotta when I saw him run then I saw him pass and thought Taylor Kelly. Haha. I think you have it pretty much nailed.

I do like him, perfect fit for ND's offense. But, Yikes he has an elongated throwing motion.

-Also 6'6" Bishop Dwenger WR/TE Keenan Centlivre has accepted a preferred walk-on position.

Welcome to ND!

And the kicker that will send this board a frenzy... ND has ramped up contact with Nathan Starks. If ND continues to seriously pursue him, it will likely be a battle with Oklahoma to the ND.

Don't you mess with me, Christian. Don't you play with my emotions

LAX, was there any Intel news regarding the game tomorrow or did it just focus on recruiting?

Yeah there was. They expect USC to stack the box (which should be kinda obvious considering the last times we beat them we ran the ball down their throats AND they play a 5-2) and put their DBs 1v1 in man coverage. Tommy is going to have to try to win the game with his arm... maybe a la MSU, but with less deep throws.

Personally, I'm a bit terrified. Their DBs are young but athletic and I don't see how our guys are going to really be able to run by them consistently. And I worry about turnovers.

We don't need to run by them. The turnovers are always scary.

This is a perfect game for Koyack and Niklas to use their match ups. I expect lots of play calling to go to the TEs and maybe we finally see some 2 RB sets.

Slants, outs, crossing routes etc based on timing are incredibly difficult to defend in man to man

Yep. Tommy turnover is what has me really worried about this game.

Yeah, but how often do we run any of those?

yeah :(

We began to incorporate against ASU but the MSU game they were non-existent.

I honestly hope we stick to ground game and play action. Play action routes usually are across middle (there is always the deep option). Could help us get Troy involved too.

But I have been hoping for this since week 1 as well.

Paging Lax.....

You're supposed to use the bat signal...

Not much this week... a recap of the last weekend... they were a bit surprised that ND left with no commitments. They think Luatua and Tranquill are both pretty close to locks. They think we're clear leaders for Watkins and Hendrix. Hoge is also a lock.

For the other prospects, same things we've been hearing.

Talk on Barnett being the best QB prospect in the country from QB guru Dennis Gile.

Report on Yeargin contacting USC is 100% myth. Nelson is completely solid from what their sources say.

Alford will check out Ballage while ND is in Colorado.

Cali notes... Rasheem Green is an interior DL to keep an eye on for 2015 from Cali. Cordell Broadus may be more in play for ND than people think. Rosen probably doesn't leave Cali, but expect Notre Dame to get a look if there is still mutual interest after the season... he's really not focused on process yet.

Very long shot with Lorenzo Carter.

2017 QB (who was offered a scholarship by UCLA as an 8th grader) from Woodberry Forrest made the trip with Martini for the USC game. He's a Texas native who I guess is boarding at Woodberry Forrest. Lindell Stone

Lost in the Watkins commitment (woo!!!!)

-On Starks... more of what we've been saying. The bottom line is he was never accused of much less charged with any crime. Alford remains in heavy contact with him and he has OVs planned to Oklahoma, Florida, and USC. Would like to OV with his mother (I'm guessing after the season for banquet if he gets approval). It remains to be seen whether he is a take, and he currently doesn't have approval, but it's a fluid situation. Currently playing in Colorado and doing well on/off the field by all accounts.

-Bo is still in play. I'm pessimistic here, but he definitely was very interested in ND on his visit and i think we'd be squarely in the race academics aside. Adding my 2 cents, the main barrier is that he has work left to do to qualify for ND, and is unlikely to do it since he is already clear for Alabama and Florida. So expect Alabama to win out.

-McKenzie is McKenzie. ISD says the announcement didn't catch the ND coaches by surprise, which is consistent with what I heard. However, test scores seem to have come in below what they were expecting. So the ND staff doesn't consider him a commitment because his academics aren't good enough yet, but he is "100% Irish"... so his verbal pledge is as strong as a verbal pledge can be. The staff also loves his game, but wants him to get his academics squared away before he is "officially" part of the class. Both sides expect that to happen in January (assuming better test scores, good semester grades is the implication). Sources said he is "very excited to be part of the Fighting Irish" and they consider the academics just a "road bump"... personally, I think it's more like a boulder in the middle of the road.

-No visitors this weekend.

-Dickerson out with a spine fracture. Actually not a big deal (I actually had a similar condition myself in different vertebrae from the sounds of it), just needs to heal like any other bone but he might miss the season.

-Quick hits: Tranquil decision should come after this weekend. Adoree Jackson doesn't really look in play. Elam has us in top 3. Solomon Thomas might be in play if he OVs. Ballage unlikely to get offer. All stuff we know.

-On Navy... coaches unhappy with our running against Air Force. Been a big focus in practice. Navy plays a ton of umbrella zone to limit bit plays, and the plan is to stretch them out with verticals and hit open seams. Every possession counts. Navy throws the ball more than in previous years and doesn't totally suck. The rain will be something interesting to watch.
