It sucks, but it's no surprise. The unfortunate thing is that Daniels may be guilty as sin, but we'll never know for sure because the university won't discuss it. But that won't stop his dad from telling a one-sided story to anybody who will listen.

This blows over soon enough though. I suspect that Phillip Daniels is already losing twitter followers as we speak.

They don't kick kids out of school unless they're guilty as sin. Heck, Golson was guilty as sin and they let him back. This would imply that DD is guiltier-than-sin.

I can understand a father backing his son. But ND would not have expelled DD had he not been proven guilty w/o doubt. Mr. Daniels should re-evaluate the things he says on twitter. Things that will inevitably paint the university in a bad light eventhough DD is the one who screwed up.

I think the rumor mill was pretty close to being true...just not getting the results most would've liked. KVR was long rumored to just be in the know. It would see that was in fact the case and why his sentencing was lighter in comparison to those who actually cheated. I'm not holding my breath that the other three will be back at ND.

All I can say is...thank you Brian Kelly. He is building such a program that bumps in the road, such as this, are just rubbed off.

2015, if we're not preseason number 1...then who is?

An argument can be made we have the best players in the country on both sides of the ball...and they will both be back next year.

I'd like to see that very bad argument.

Unless DD and KVR got the same sentence and DD is just electing not to return next year.

The day will come, and soon, when this is going to bite us in the ass.

Daniels had already been declared academically ineligible last year. There's a very good chance that this expulsion is tied to that prior issue. Why is this going to bite us in the ass. Will recruits suddenly wake up and realize that ND is hard? Will they suddenly realize that ND doesn't condone cheating?

I just don't see it. Recruits already know what ND is about. Nothing that has happened here has changed that. And despite the length of the investigation, neither of the two players who have gone public would have been eligible to play this season, regardless of when they found out.

One can even make the argument that ND took the decision to suspend/expel a student very seriously, hence the time it took to deliberate. That won't be a popular sentiment, but valid nonetheless.

How so? Because ND has integrity and stands by what is right and wrong? A kid cheated in school and is now being punished. This shouldn't surprise anyone. Golson was expelled last year for cheating. I look for the other three to follow DD.

This is true. I shouldn't just assume. However, isn't KVR still enrolled? I could be mistaken, but I was under the impression that KVR was just suspended from football, not expelled. Mr. Daniels tweet makes it seem like DD is done. As in, expelled and not returning. Maybe I'm wrong.

I am pretty sure he was suspended b/c he did not maintain a 2.0 GPA. Now, in the investigation could have uncovered things from past semesters that would have warranted him being kicked out for cheating as well, but that is not the general understanding of the reason for his absence in the spring

The only way in which the rumor mill has been true is that the first two of the five to go public will not play for ND this year. People need to be careful about perpetuating the rumor as fact that KVR was penalized simply for being in the know. There is not one shred of evidence yet to suggest that this rumor is true, despite the fact that KVR has spoken publicly on it.

It would appear that they are going to let them finish the semester, unless there's a way to be enrolled without earning credit hours.

I don't see many ways that this will "bite us."

The potential areas of concern:
1). NDs reputation as a serious academic school --- this enhances image and gives ND bashers no ammunition;

2). NDs ability to play good football this year and next --- we are LOADED at receiver positions [heck, we're not even playing Brent yet] and do not need the DD "threat";

3). NDs ability to recruit really good football players --- I suppose if we're talking about marginal academic players like DD [his acceptance just barely made it in as it was] maybe. If we factor in the #1 above, that sounds like a positive with parents to me. My guess it only hurts us with people known by Philip Daniels and whoever "runs" Chicago amateur team football, with whom we already have poor relations apparently. I'll take my chances with Alford, Cooks, and Kelly over this factor.

As mentioned above, I've been under the impression that KVR was not expelled from ND. If true, then his punishment is less severe than DD being done. Which would imply that his offense was not as bad. I could be wrong about KVR still being enrolled though.

Edit: Just saw the tweet posted...perhaps they're all done and KVR is just electing to return. Changes my thinking a bit.

Yes, that's exactly what I was saying. DD gets into academic trouble, and cheats in the process to try and keep himself eligible. He was suspended due to poor grades, but an investigation later confirms that he was cheating during that time period as well.

Among the few "facts" released by the university was that this investigation was taking a look back at prior semesters. Although not "officially" tied to one another, it's very possible that all of this is a result of the same series of missteps from DD.

Very confusing answer in the presser, but it sounds like Ishaq may have a chance to return, much like KVR, according to BK.

Questions up to this point:

1. Is KVR enrolled in school at this moment?

2. Is it possible DD was told he could apply for readmission after a suspension (regardless if football was part of the equation) and Team Daniels is choosing to get ready for the NFL instead?

.

Possible, yes. No indication of whether that is or isn't the case.

It's possible that ND is looking at DD's track record in general and has decided that a return is not in his or the university's best interests. It's also possible that DD doesn't like going to class and is ready to try and make some money in the NFL.

In terms of NFL potential, DD was probably the one most in need of a solid year to really improve his draft status. Ishaq is in a similar boat, but his ceiling probably isn't as high as DD's.

My question is how is a normal student punished for something like this? It seems that they are just removed from football but still enrolled.

I was given an F for the course. I was still enrolled and still a student in Good Standing (since my GPA was high enough in my other courses to compensate).
