Game 4 of 12 is in the first 3rd of the season. I'd call that early. Games 1-4 early, 5-8 mid, and 9-12 late. And I doubt any committee member would put the 3rd best B1G team in over a conference champion (if Clemson wins).

Fourth game of only twelve is a lot. Shorter the sample the worse percentages work. You call it early and I call it well within the season. And it was a beat down in conference play.

I agree, no committee member would...but I think they should if the want the 4 best. Clemson is not one of the four best IMO. They'd be at least two losses in any other conference.

I don't know why you people are debating about this. We have a playoff. A playoff system will end all of the arguments, once and for all!

I was always puzzled by the people clamoring for a playoff to decide the "true" champion. Did they really think it would be some sort of nirvana where every national champion is obvious and undefeated?

I'm just scared that the playoffs will be expanded too much and we'll see teams resting their starters during rivals week. That would be a true shame.

It's freaking stupid. People complained non-stop for a playoff, they finally got one, and now they are already complaining about not enough teams in said playoff. The trophy sucks ass too.

Biggest worry about an expanded playoff is ND's chance of winning it. After my years of watching ND I think our best chance at another natty is getting in a best of four and winning 2 post seasons games. A playoff of 3 wins will be easier for ND to participate but very tough to win IMO.

Who is the better team right now? Michigan or PSU?

If you say Michigan, you're crazy.

Again, Penn State was playing without their TOP 5 linebackers against Michigan. The first game they got Bell and Cabinda back? Two weeks later against OSU when they combined for 31 tackles.

Look man, I don't like either one of them at all. It's like picking between green or brown poop...both smell like shit.

But they are apples to apples...and one thumped the other. Sucks their players were out but it wasn't even close.

Similar to '93...identical records but one beat the other.

There's no way they won't fuck this up.

I'd say PSU in over Washington.

Man, this 4 team thing is terrible ugly.

The committee already fucked this all up by having OSU ranked so high. They should drop out to for the team that beat them and won the conference title, but how do you justify dropping OSU 3 spots after you already said they were the second best team in the country last week.

TCU thinks not playing and getting screwed is for pussies... playoffs rock.

I don't have the intestinal fortitude to visit 11 Warriors or the Penn State site, but I'm sure the conversation is good over there.

As it stands now:

Alabama vs. Washington in Atlanta

Ohio State vs. Clemson in Arizona

My question is, is there that much of a difference between Clemson and UW that you couldn't have them swap places? Much easier for fans of those two schools to travel if Clemson goes to Atlanta and UW goes to Arizona.

Absolutely agree. They might as well not release rankings prior to the final ranking if they are going to leave Washington out.

OSU should be left out.

Penn St, Washington, Clemson, and Bama.

Although Michigan and OSU would be great competitors for it.

Oklahoma I think would shock someone.

Basically we need 8. Now.

In fact, a 16 team playoff would be right up my alley.

Check out these match-ups:

Bama vs Stanford
OSU vs Louisville
Clemson vs WVU
Washington vs OKST
PSU vs WMU
Mich vs Colorado
OU vs FSU
Wiscy vs USC

That would be some epic games.

IMO instead of 8, there should be 6.

All P5 conference champs automatically get in, and one wild card.

#1 and 2 get byes while 3 and 6 & 4 and 5 battle it out

Yeah but see above.

No one could gripe about the above, no bullshit byes.

That allows all teams to be beat up and equal.

4 weeks to a champion.

I agree with 6 but I don't think a conference champion should automatically get in. All depends on overall resumes. I certainly wouldn't wan to limit ND to one potential spot.

I think this is the next logical step, would this force ND's hand into joining a conference though?

Essentially being in a conference would give you two chances to get in, one if you win your conference and the other chance would be if you didn't win but were very impressive like OSU this year.

I think I want 8, but I don't know. its turning into pro football, I think more than 2 losses should eliminate a team with 8 teams we'd see some 3 loss teams get in, and many teams only play 3 decent opponents all season.

Current playoff contract runs through 2025 so no changes will happen anytime soon.

No way on the P5 conference champs all getting in. A team could conceivably be 7-5 and win it's conference. There's no way under the sun that a 7-5 team should be in the playoffs.

Amen agreed.

Expand to 8-16 and let rankings and SOS speak for their selves.

If there were 8 teams, I'd have no problem if 1 out of every 20 years a 7-5 team got in. Doubt that happens all that much. When was the last time it happened (serious Q)?

All the P5 conf champs, the best non-P5 team, and 2 wild cards.

That would give you Bama vs WMU, Clem vs OKL, OSU vs Mich on neutral field, Wash vs PSU. I would have no problem with that line up. Popcorn please.
