Are you hurting, or injured? I would submit that, if your issues can be solved by extra time in the tub(s), then you are sore, not injured. I was speaking specifically of the two injuries that took guys out of the game.

That's a great line when you're trying to motivate players to play through some pain. When it eats up your players legs for a week or two it really doesn't matter how you characterize the pain.

Play calling at the end was suspect. We get the ball twice at their 30 and can't even get a f'ing FG. The offense was clicking but the conservative calls shut it down. Luckily Navy is a shitty passing team.

Our special teams, once again, sucks ass.

That's all I got.

I just can't wrap my head around our punt return unit. The play where Riggs fumbled there wasn't an ND player within 30 yards. And there was no punt rush.

Maybe they were playing punt safe but how are you running a punt safe where 7 of their players are behind the entire return unit? Where were the guys covering the gunners? I just don't get it. We have too much speed and talent to not be able to run back a punt in every game since what seems like 2007.

So ,what, about 70% of this thread will be basically, "WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE"?

Ok. I wasn't gonna really get into with this game but some of you, back off the football ledge a bit.

Navy averages 352 rushing yards a game. They're going to get their rushing yards. ND 'held' them to 336 which is the 3rd fewest Navy has rushed for this season. Rutgers held them to 171 and Air Force held them to 252. Ohio State gave up 370 yards rushing.

Notre Dame played Austin Larkin for crying out loud. Add in Drue Tranquill, Nyles Morgan, a converted WR at LB, Trumbetti, etc. and I believe at one point ND had 4 sophomores, 3 true freshman, and a RS freshman on the field at one time on defense. Not to mention a D-coordinator who probably has never had to cover the Triple Option. Let us not forget the blatant OPI that wasn't called on Navy's first TD.

Yes, it was still scarier then it needed to be and yes, I am over playing Navy but calm down. ND won. We learned that the CFP committee wants wins no matter how you get them. ND did exactly what they needed to do offensively. Should it have been more? Heck yeah but putting up 49 is nothing to scoff at. It's 19 more then Navy gives up on average.

As long as the injury report returns favorable, then take it and move on happily.

Pretty sure we all felt the same way in 2012.

Then Oregon and KSU lost on the same night.

But in 2012 they had no choice but to put us in the championship. By the BCS rankings we were #1. With a committee, sure we're 7-1 with a controversial loss to the #2 defending National Champions, but our best win is a last second victory over a team that is 5-4 and just got steamrolled by Oregon. UNC and Navy, neither of which are very good, played us fairly evenly until the end of the game, and we beat Purdue and Syracuse, neither of which are very good, by 16 in ugly, ugly games. The Arizona teams will most likely jump us among the one-loss teams if they win their games.

Day with a shoulder injury, checked back in on the last series. Onwualu did not pass a concussion test and was done.

Schmidt injury can't be good... Kelly said they went to 1 look on defense basically the rest of the game post injury. Very important in my opinion to get Collinsworth back now because you're looking at a ridiculously young set of players on the field while he is out.

Damn. Yeah, we're not going to beat ASU just with athleticism. I think Jaylon might be able to set us up in the right spots, but he's got a lot on his plate too. Not good.

As long as we keep winning we will be fine. Many of the current 1 loss teams are going to lose. We just need to take care of our own shit.

I'm aware, but forever is a long time. If someone saves my life, I'm going reward them for it, but I'm not at their mercy for the rest of my life. I got shit to do, lol.

Mercy?

Notre Dame is at Navy's mercy?

Of course you have shit to do. You're full of it.

I get everyone's disappointment if we don't make the playoffs. But how many actually had us slotted as one of the 4 prior to the season? Not many, if any.

Anything from here out is gravy as theses guys have done a helluva job, Navy is to be respected but man o man the trench warfare play gets old. Now tell me how bad the injuries are for these last 4 games. We all knew after tonight players wouldn't be available for ASU. Navy always takes its toll. The flow is all %$#@$# up in the game and they are disruptive in their technique. Its over so on to the desert. O line did well tonight and the complaints from before are over blown. This is a top 1-6 team in the country no matter how much you dislike Notre Dame.

Just pointing out that the defense played a worse game statistically than 2010's loss...the loss Diaco was almost beheaded after....but still won --> game ball to BK, Golson, and offense.

Seriously hate this game every year.

Really interested to see how rankings play out.

It's a good story, but are we indebted to play them forever?

If the story is true, ND gave Navy their word. So, the question is actually....... do you live by the same integrity that you preach?

The Navy tradition is one I'd be happy to move away from. There's just nothing to gain from playing them.

I, for one; wish ND would end the Navy relationship. Enough already. It's a lose/lose/lose for the Irish. They're supposed to win every game by a wide margin but more times than not it's either a loss or a close win. The blowouts have become less common.

Yes, cut blocks are legal. No, those weren't the reason for the knee injuries to Schmidt & Jones. But it's still the one game where we lose a key defender to a knee injury on a consistent basis (remember Councell last year) Regardless of the cut block, the percentages seem to go up for the liklihood of knee injuries when we play Navy.

It's become almost as bad as playing an FCS team. Not only is it a lose/lose, Navy has proven tough for ND's DC's to plan for. Diaco laid an egg in 2010 & BVG's first go around was less than impressive. I'm starting to think both the players & the DC underestimate Navy. What pisses me off most is that after all the excuses from ND fans (Navy gets up for ND more than anyone else, tough offense to plan for, assignment football, cut blocks, blah, blah, blah)...who the hell of note has Navy ever beaten other than ND?

So, Notre Dame...please just cut a huge seven figure check to Navy & replace them w/ another FBS school. We've more than repaid our debt. Tell the SEC it's time for them to step up and trade one of their many FCS opponents for the Naval Academy.

Sorry...had to get that off my chest.

Oh yeah, based on the scene of Schmidt on the sidelines & the replay of the injury...I'm pretty confident he's done for the season.

Good news is we don't have anyone performing well enough to go pro early. We essentially have the Same team back with less confusion. No Cam, no collinsworth

@NDatRivals: For those wondering, I’m told Greg Bryant was injured tonight, which was the reason he did not play.

Yes, playing Navy sucks. Whatever. Respect tradition, we owe them.]

Golson is the absolute man. I just feel like he plays amazing for 10 plays, then shits the bed for 1 play. Still, he's a top-5 QB easily.

Folston coming into his own is a god send for this offense. Thank god the mass subs are done with.

We need Schmidt and Day for ASU.

We have more talent than the last 4 teams on our schedule. Unfortunately, it will probably come down to TCU or Oregon losing a game.
