Yeah, it would be an argument but looking at the selection criteria for "comparable" teams I think we lose.

Winning a conference championship=tiebreaker vs Notre Dame
Not winning the conference you're in=no penalty

I think this is terrible precedent for us. We'll see*.

I think its a great precident. They were waiting to put in Michigan and would have 2 BIG teams in. Neither their conference champ.

Right now I'll just be excited if ND can ever be bowl eligible again, and win it.

Interesting write up on the newest member of the playoff committee, Dr. Chris Howard. Current president of Robert Morris University with a resume that would make Jesus Himself envious. Air Force RB, Rhodes Scholar (PhD in Politics), Harvard MBA, JSOC pilot and intelligence officer, Bronze Star, founder of several charities, etc. Frankly, his background screams "POTUS" moreso than "member of playoff selection committee." I'll be interested to see whether his profile outside of sports rises due to his membership in this group.

Pffffft. Jesus wouldn't have wasted a minute of his time on the Chair Force. Jesus hung out with a lot of fishermen; he would obviously have been Navy, all the way! Besides........... who needs saving more than a bunch of drunken, debaucherous sailors and Marines?
