Current playoff contract runs through 2025 so no changes will happen anytime soon.
So CW finished out his contract?

So if you had to wager your life savings... on a PSU vs OSU game on a neutral field... you're telling me you would bet on PSU?

No, but I think conference championships AND head to head should matter.
How can a team be the national champion when they didn't win their own conference?
I think this is terrible for ND. It hurts us that they'll consider conference championships as a tie-breaker. But apparently they won't penalize a team for not winning their conference. So in the future, if we're in the conversation (say we're 11-1) we don't just have to worry about the 5 conference champions, we also have to worry about teams that didn't win their conference.
e. for example, this year, where do you think 11-1 ND would be ranked?
You think they're going to fire the playoffs?
No way on the P5 conference champs all getting in. A team could conceivably be 7-5 and win it's conference. There's no way under the sun that a 7-5 team should be in the playoffs.
The CFPC's charter is to get the best 4 teams in the CFP. If that's the case, then I believe they've done that. Until they expand the field to 8, including all conf champs, we'll always have this type of argument. BTW, I'm also a fan of conf champs getting the nod, but PSU is not the better team IMHO.
Edit... IMO, Mich would have beat OSU on a neutral field. and Mich smacked PSU around. The best BIG team could be debated on and on....
Yeah-I get the logic, just not a fan of it (partly because of the implications for ND).
I think we would have been the odd man looking out at 11-1 this year, because I think we a) lose to a conference champion with the same record and b) would lose to Ohio State in a SOS comparison.
What we need is for teams to not only be rewarded for winning their conference, but also to be penalized for failing to win. That way we wouldn't be competing with Ohio State and PSU this year, we would have been compared to PSU alone.
In fact, a 16 team playoff would be right up my alley.
Check out these match-ups:
Bama vs Stanford
OSU vs Louisville
Clemson vs WVU
Washington vs OKST
PSU vs WMU
Mich vs Colorado
OU vs FSU
Wiscy vs USC
That would be some epic games.
They should play a 6 game season, and then have a 64 team playoff. When will it end?????
Yeah you'd have to shorten the regular season to 11 games if you were going to do a 3 round playoff and 10 if you wanted a 4 round playoff.
I don't know how ND could participate in that format- our dudes take finals in between the regular season and the bowls. And I know a lot of y'all don't care but the school does.
Cmon man don't pout because your ideas was bad. Lol.
contracts can be modified.
Haha. I like my idea, but nobody else does. Sigh, story of my life........

Give me an eight team playoff. Solves everything, or at least 95 percent of the issues. USC/Wisc would be the only teams with any reason to bitch, and with 3 losses, not a lot of room to bitch if they were the ones without a seat (assuming one of the wild cards was WMU as the highest non P5 team and got an automatic bid).
Say ND went 11-1 this year- what team do we knock out from this group of 4?
Because I think we'd be sitting at #5.
I bet we would be sitting at 6 behind Penn State.
I think the playoff committee is a fuggin joke. PSU beat OSU head-to-head AND won the conference championship. I don't give shit about the eye test, PSU did what they needed to do and got royally screwed. I feel horrible for PSU fans at the moment. Smh.

Depends who the loss was to. If it was not USC, I think ND would be ahead of Washington.
