It is with saddened hearts that our team of owners announce to the board the passing of co-owner Mike M., fondly known as Clashmore_Mike here on Irish Envy. Mike passed away from a bout with cancer earlier this summer. We have been looking for a way to memorialize him as well as give his family their time, but I felt it would be wrong to kick off the season without recognizing Mike.
Mike as a poster, moderator, and owner has meant worlds to this website. He only spoke when he felt he needed and for some, that may mean they do not recognize his name or have several interactions with him, but I can assure you he put more into this site than just about anyone. Mike regularly created recruit threads; he always created the gameday pages and the schedule banner. Any bells and whistles with the site? Mike. The transition to the new website would have been impossible without him. He dedicated himself to this place because, like the rest of us, he loved Notre Dame. And with his dedication, I believe he helped shape the best online community for Irish fans, period.
While I never met Mike in person, I believe his character showed through in the interactions that we did have. He was kind, hard-working, and compassionate. He helped carry the burdens of others but made sure to never be a burden himself, even through his quiet battle. Until I learned of the passing of Mike, I am not sure that I had ever cried about someone I had never met. That was the kind of positive impact he had amongst his friends here, and I am sure on the rest of the people in his life.
Going forward, I know this place won't ever be the exact same, and the rest of us owners and moderators will have very big shoes to fill in the wake of Mike leaving. But though he has left, I am positive he is not gone. Don't believe for one second he won't be on the edge of his seat, the best one in the world, watching and cheering on his beloved Irish take on the Midshipmen today.
So I ask that before kickoff, you raise a glass for Mike. To our beloved teammate and friend, may he rest in peace.
