Yeah.... a racist alt-right white grievance point, except Wakandan's and the Black Panther Cult aren't racist (exact opposite really), they aren't comprised on neo-nazi's and other hate groups, they don't promote and adhere to neo-fascist politics, but otherwise, yeah she nailed it. :jerkit:

Don't. As a moderator, I forbid political discourse in this thread.

It is my safe space from football heartbreak and real-life politics.

The issue I have with Black Panther is the media coverage. Everyone is all "HA! Take that white people! This movie is for black people and your racist ass is just going to have to deal with it." Meanwhile, I'm all "uh... I'm pretty pumped for Black Panther, so..."

wut? Take yourself out of the equation. I literally have no idea what you are talking about regarding the media.....I have not heard anyone say anything like that. Only thing I have heard is that the movie is good and blacks are very excited to have a a movie such as this. I have seen and I have posted it is that white people are upset cuz the blacks are getting uppity again over a movie. Again, you dont represent all white people so stop saying just becasue you are hype means white people aint crying about an all black superhero movie which is clearly going on. lol

lololololololol. Are you aggrieved wiz? WTF Is this shit? From your link,

If you are reading this and you are white, seeing people who look like you in mass media probably isn’t something you think about often. Every day, the culture reflects not only you but nearly infinite versions of you—executives, poets, garbage collectors, soldiers, nurses and so on. The world shows you that your possibilities are boundless. Now, after a brief respite, you again have a President.

Those of us who are not white have considerably more trouble not only finding representation of ourselves in mass media and other arenas of public life, but also finding representation that indicates that our humanity is multi*faceted. Relating to characters onscreen is necessary not merely for us to feel seen and understood, but also for others who need to see and understand us. When it doesn’t happen, we are all the poorer for it.
There is literally nothing wrong, out of order or obtuse about anything contained in those articles., one of which fro the BBC is s three line byline lol.

Im done. Sorry mods. I am very sorry. Plese delete or move as necessary. This crap doesnt belong in this thread.

Open your eyes. It's post-modernism, neo-Marxism, and identity politics. Everything... every single human interaction... is framed as a conflict between Oppressor and Oppressed. There is nothing but the power dynamic and the quest for dominance. In that framework, the neo-Marxists celebrate the triumphs of the historically Oppressed, which means that everyone else who is not either a member of the Oppressed class or otherwise woke enough to their plight is part of the Oppressor class.

One of the biggest issues is that the neo-Marxists don't place any value on beauty or art, and that includes films. It's the reason Ghostbusters tanked but Black Panther is going to kill it. People want good movies. They don't give a shit about the neo-Marxist class struggles espoused by modern feminism and BLM.

I don't want to get into the thick of things, but I think there is evidence on both sides... there are plenty of black folk who see this is a revolution in the face of a predominantly white/male entertainment industry. And it's true that white dudes rule said entertainment industry, so Ryan Coogler heading a primarily-black cast in a major film franchise, which they KNOW is destined for success, is a huge, proud moment for a lot of people. And that's cool!

There are plenty of racist white dudes out there that are butthurt about this film, and a very tiny portion of those people are probably true Marvel fans... but the majority of true Marvel fans don't care about "white vs black," they're just jacked up to see the Black Panther on screen, because his tech is badass and the story seems cool as shit and the soundtrack is fucking dope (it me; I'm that fan).

On the flip side, there is a tiny portion of black people who are celebrating this film and its primarily black-cast as a slap-in-the-face to white people, kind of in the "who needs you anyway!" vein of responses, which I think is also kind of silly.

This.

I'm white and middle aged. I'll be seeing Black Panther. I'm not particularly found of his character, but he has his moments in the comics (I highly suggest the ComicsExplained youtube channel if you want to learn some stuff about comics and the Black Panther history).

It's as though some are treating this as some 'Got'cha!' moment. A movie was created around a new super hero in the MCU. It could have been nearly any hero, of any color, of any origin. As long as it's good, and if it's from Marvel it gets the benefit of the doubt, then I'll see it.

I don't go watch all-black cast movies because of the color of their skin. I don't go because most of them don't entertain me. This probably will. Keep making good movies, and I'll keep spending my money.

So is the DCEU officially over?

Idk, there weren't any details in the blurb I saw, but I know Suicide Squad 2 is supposedly in the works now, so it wouldn't make sense to have two jokers out there at the moment.

I thought Leto was okay in Suicide Squad, but I don't think he actually got enough screen time to warrant a true judgment... I'd spend the $10 to see him in a Joker stand-alone origin film.

EDIT: The ol' "separate timeline" strikes again... Jared Leto's Joker will still be kickin', too.

https://www.theguardian.com/film/2018/feb/08/joaquin-phoenix-in-talks-to-play-the-joker

The film will explore the character’s time in Gotham as he becomes a supervillain. It will be produced by Martin Scorsese and the tone has been likened more to a gritty crime drama than one of DC’s recent entries.

It will exist in a separate timeline from the one in DC’s pre-established cinematic universe which included Suicide Squad, where Jared Leto plays the Joker. He is set to reprise the role in a sequel as well as a spin-off film centered around his relationship with Harley Quinn.

There's not going to be a hard reset post-Avengers 4. Tom Holland's Spider-Man is firmly in the MCU and Tom Hardy's Venom is firmly out of it.

Except Tom Holland has already filmed scenes for Venom. It’s been confirmed that Peter Parker is in Venom, mostly likely just for a small cameo though.

I believe the DCU has multiple timelines and universes/alternate realities. Its pretty much a standard trope on the Flash tv show now as wel as the Injustice video games. Would not surprise me if they are ok with having multiple jokers with multiple backgrounds.

Alright nerds, who saw Black Panther over opening weekend?

Saw it on Friday, thought it was amazing after a bit of a slow start.

Very mild spoilers to follow:

They packed a lot in without making it feel overwhelming, and the story flowed nicely from point-to-point. The political messaging didn't seem forced or bothersome at all, and fit the narrative well in terms of Killmonger's backstory and how it connected him to his beliefs about the world at large... he had legit motivation that was understandable, though misguided. Really well-executed villain.

I had a few minor nits to pick with some characterization and decision-making, but less than in a usual Marvel film, I think.

Both post-credit scenes were huge in terms of setting up the future of the universe, which was cool.

- Chadwick Boseman was really good.
- Michael B. Jordan was outstanding, as usual.
- Letitia Wright nailed it as Shuri.
- Danai Gurira as Okoye was perfect casting for "badass general/royal bodyguard"
- Martin Freeman's American accent has improved greatly since Civil War.
- Andy Serkis is fucking yoked.

I think T'Challa's boy, W'Kabi, sets up as a really interesting/potential future bad guy, and M'Baku stole the show in limited screen time. There weren't really any over-inflated characters or wasted focus, which was great.

Black Panther is definitely now my clubhouse leader in terms of his suit and technology, too. Having a supergenius sister doing experiments and perfecting vibranium tech in a badass lab helps.

Can't wait for the "Infinity War" scene where Tony Stark intros some badass new tech, and Shuri just crushes his moment with something way better.

Esquire: All Marvel Movies Ranked

1. Black Panther
2. Guardians of the Galaxy
3. Iron Man
4. Thor: Ragnarok
5. Captain America: Civil War
6. The Avengers
7. Spider-Man: Homecoming
8. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
9. Doctor Strange
10. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
11. Iron Man 3
12. Captain America: The First Avenger
13. Ant-Man
14. Iron Man 2
15. Thor
16. The Incredible Hulk
17. Avengers: Age of Ultron
18. Thor: The Dark World

I'd shift some things around, personally.

My top 5:
1. Iron Man
2. Black Panther
3. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
4a. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
4b. Captain America: Civil War
5. Guardians of the Galaxy

Haven't seen "Ragnarok" yet, so maybe that would break into the top 5 for me, as I'd have the original "Thor" rated much higher than 15.

Also, I still think it should've been "Iron Man: Civil War"

Captain had the noble intentions that drew the focus, following up on the ideas from "Winter Soldier" with his characterization, but the plot impacted Tony Stark more, and drew greater impact FROM Tony Stark.
