How Do You Approach the Rest of the Season?

I was just wondering how everyone is going to finish out this season as a fan?

Meaning, I've already talked to friends and family who completely blew off the NC St game. They either did yard/house work, went out of town, or just watched another game. Which is understandable, I get it, but to me those 12 Saturdays out of the year, I have to make time to watch this team I've grown to love since I was a child.

To completely blow a game off because the boys are up against it is exactly opposite of what I think this team needs. I have the weird thinking that if I don't give up maybe the team won't either. I know, pretty superstitious.

I remember in 2007 midway through the season I was shipped off to Iraq and I still tried every way to watch the games. Often times I had to use the Internet cafe because they would not be televised over there. The Armed Forces Network only showed certain games.

Just curious as to what everyone else plans on doing. For those that will put other things above the game I understand, but to those like myself who will endure this season and hope for the best. Go Irish!

I don't think you will find too many people here tuning the rest of the season out.

You have to be a pretty big fan to register an account and post on a Notre Dame message board.

My sister got married this weekend so I didn't watch the game and I have no desire to go back and watch the recording. That's probably how I'll handle the rest of the season. I'll watch if I'm around the house but I'm not going to treat it as must-see-TV and I won't be watching it on the DVR if I miss it live.

Even when I watch, I'm rooting for us to lose at this point so we get rid of Kelly.

As weird as it sounds, this is how my lady and I approach it. Gotta keep cheering for the guys, even if its from our living room or closest ND bar. The best part about this journey will be seeing this team have success, whether that's this weekend or we have to wait until next season. There are guys in that locker room that will be able to turn this around, and I'll be watching and cheering, when they do.

I'll be in that foxhole right next to you! I'm still travelling to Jax for the Navy game. I'll still be watching every other week that I am not working. And I will still root for them passionately! LET'S GO IRISH!!

I'll be looking for every possible bright spot so as to have hope for the future, praying our recruiting classes don't fall apart, and following it all up with a lot of alcohol.

I go into every season knowing, as well as the family knowing, I'll sit down and watch every game live. If that's not possible, I'll watch it on DVR without checking any game info beforehand. That's now changed for me. Hell it changed after the 1st loss. I could see the season already heading for disaster. Now it'll be DVR'D. I'll catch some live if I'm at home, but I won't schedule the day around it

Even when I watch, I'm rooting for us to lose at this point.

🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕 this is unacceptable to me.

This has been a tougher year than 2007 in many ways(some personal, some related to the team)... without getting too far into it, I'm to the point where I just can't watch too much more. I am actively looking for things to occupy my Saturdays other than football. Just being honest.

I'm hoping for the best. Would like to see the coaches maybe try some different things. Would like to see some players grow.

I'm not ready to burn it down like some. ND has rarely been good in my lifetime, much less great. I don't know any better.

I would like to see Chase Claypool play more football. You toasted his RS, and he looks like he could be the best athlete on the team every chance he gets on ST. He's also 1 target, 1 catch in the passing game.

Exactly why isn't this guy playing on offense or defense again? Is it because Smythe/Wieshar have locked down the TE position? Don't make me laugh...

I wouldn't mind him taking snaps at WR, either. Or hell, safety. Play your athletes.

Proceed with caution and low expectations.

Did we upset any teams?
Did we improve as the season went on?
Did we stay healthy and gain much needed experience?
Did we fold (USC '14)?

I get 12 (13) days out of an entire year to watch a team that I follow for 365 days. I cheer for them win or lose. Winning makes the day that much better. But with a little perspective on life, watching my Irish, even if they lose, beats most of the daily grind.

Wiz, you should be ashamed dude. That's pathetic and weak. Me-first mentality.

My preseason plans have changed a bit. I was excited to go tailgating for the night games. As a family we had planned to do a large tailgate for the Stanford game but with the season unfolding the way it has. We've decided not to.

I'll still go out and tailgate, just because nothing compares to walking around campus on game day. It's an indescribable feeling. But when I get to watching the game, I'll either be home alone or watching with select few of my family.

I will add that I have been very pleased with the noon kickoffs because I can watch other games and do other things on my Saturday. This 7:30 Stanford game will suck.

There's always an 8pm ABC game. That's likely what I'll watch. Flip to ours on commercials.

I go see several non-ND games a year (Tenn, UGA, GT, etc) just to hang with friends and have fun.... but I always pack a TV and generator to watch the ND game before or after the game (or during if the times overlap). It's a pain to haul / set-up all that crap. Going to the UT/Bama game this weekend. I'm sad to say I don't even feel like watching the Stanford game afterwards. Will probably just get in the car and head back to ATL. Dark times for this ND fan.

I quit watching after the MSU game, swearing that until BVG was fired, it wasnt worth watching and getting upset. When my little 10 year old girl asks me "daddy, why are you upset, it is just a game" I know it has gone too far.

So I had hopes of turning it back on but after the last two weeks, I fail to find any reason to do so. This season will be a let down. Even if ND manages to beat Stanford, it is only because their star player is out which is a big part of their offense. After that, the only team I can see them beating is Army.

So no. This year's ND game day will be limited to skimming through the scores on yahoo.

No change in my plans...just my expectations. Will continue to tailgate and hit all the home games and am all set for seeing Navy in Jax. Hoping to see some growth of the younger guys to see what we have to build on for next year and praying our recruiting class remains and actually closes strong.

I don't think it's that crazy to cheer for tanking to get BK fired. 2016 is shot. What does 2017, 2018, 2019, etc, look like? I think NOT GOOD if BK slides through another year and keeps his job. I want a reason to believe in the future, the present is already hot garbage.

None of us are happy with the outcome of the season but as a fan base we have to support the team. Aside from Kelly...I feel like we owe it to these kids to support them even through a down year. I mean that's what makes sports great right? There's years where you expect greatness and get mediocrity and there's years like 2012. Watching your team lose is tough but it makes winning so much better and gives you a sense of appreciation. I will watch every minute of every game that I can. If you aren't with the team through the losses you don't deserve to root for the wins. We Are Not Bandwagoners... WeAreND

Like many here, I'm married with kids and am super busy. Notre Dame Football is the last team I follow passionately. Just don't have time for the rest. As for the rest of the year, I'll watch every minute of every game, just like every season. These types of seasons suck but I keep thinking it will all be worth it when things get turned around.

I really can't get behind rooting for them to lose no matter what the reason. But I also don't believe in rooting for USC to help our SOS. My parents taught me early about the difference in good and evil.

I think for me it's not that I am rooting for us to lose, but if we do lose my reaction is like...well at least there is a better chance BK gets fired.

I'm casually attached because I can't let it affect my life to a great extent. I have two kids under two, a wife and plenty of house/yard work and hobbies. Last weekend, I taped the game while my FIL and I installed a new pool cover. Walked in when NC State was kneeling it, immediately deleted the game.

I simply don't have the drive to be tormented anymore. There are far too many things I'd like to accomplish with my life that I can't allow a college football team to dictate my emotions for a whole weekend.

If we were playing hard and winning then I'd be more inclined to invest myself but not this year. I'll catch the games if I don't have something else to do, whereas previous years everything was planned around the games.
