I've read that losing about 3lbs a month is the best plan. Weight dropped too fast usually comes back fast.

It really depends on what you are doing to lose those pounds. For example, if you were to do the workout that Gerard Butler used for the movie 300, that is completely unhealthy for your body. You can easily lose 1-2 lbs a week with just portion control but you mix in cardio to amp up your metabolism, now we are talking.

I am in...I need to drop 40lbs.....

Some advice:
- 80% of weight loss is diet (IMO)
- If God made it Eat it, if he didnt make it stay away
- Simple Carbs make ppl fat
- Never drink calories

My Plan:
- Continue Kickboxing/Bjj
- I am going to go on a diet called "Caveman Power Diet"

Ouch post holiday weight for me is 201. At six foot that isn't bad but I want to cut it down to at least 185 or 180 by the end of February. Is that reasonable or could I do that quicker?

Haha I didn't realize fifteen or twenty pounds in sixty days was so much. My diet overall is good, but I drink a lot of soda, Gatorade, and snapple. Rarely water. If I replace all those times I drink that crap with water, and take out a meal a day(I have a meal between lunch and dinner) and replace it with an apple or something, I don't think that is too tall a task. I'm pretty active so I hope it's possible haha

Make sure you find workouts that you enjoy doing. Whether its running outside, doing crossfit, rock climbing or martial arts, a good exercise program can quickly become addictive, which is a good thing. Definitely would advise against thinking about going on a diet with the goal of losing x lbs, like others have said, that can quickly come back. Better to think of adopting a healthy life routine that you can stick with for the long haul, not just a month or two.

That being said, weighed in at 224 for my last way in. Did 58 push ups in 2 minutes, 90 sit ups and ran 2 miles in 13:50 (Army PT test). My personal goal for my next PT test/weigh in is 205, 75 push-ups, 100 sit-ups and a 12:30 2 mile. If people keep this thread alive, it can be a great motivator.

I'm in. Need to lose about 60lbs... I'm in the neighborhood of 260 right now, maybe just a couple pounds under. My plan is semi-low carb and exercise at least 4 times a week. NO sugar. Mainly water to drink.

The more I read, the more I see that water is key. Cut out the other drinks it seems.

Welcome fellow fatty's !! Let's do this!

My goal for the first week is to lose 3 pounds. I'm not gonna post my weight because I would lie about it:smilewink. I'll post my pounds lost until I hit my first 30 pounds, after that I'll probably tell the truth.....and the weight on my license will finally be correct again.

ABSOLUTELY! Water is heavily underrated. If you don't like plain water then adding a little crystal light to liven it up is a great way to make it tolerable. You don't have to cut everything else off but what is key in weight loss is portion control and that includes beverages.

If I may add- H2O also kick starts your metabolism.

I have a brother, an ex-offensive strongside guard, who gradually ballooned up to 320 [at 6'2+"] and stayed in that vicinity through his 50s and slightly later. He's now at 245. What happened?? He did NOT cut off his left leg. The whole "program" was complicated, but the main ingredients were:

A). no useless calories in liquids [cut out sugared drinks, alcohol, even most juices and milk];

B). quit eating after dinner; or "seven" if you want to claim you eat late dinners;

C). eliminate wheat --- quit squealing about it, just do it. Gradually dump all of the fast processed carbs.

X). if you want to go faster, you have to load up on the vegetables and fruits and soups made of same, and slow down on the meats.

As for myself --- none of the above. I'm overweight and can't see a plan that this overstressed old man with the nagging injuries can apply. 5 sedentary high-stress hours a day caring for my 95 year old Mother screws all such rational plans up. So, good losing youngsters, and rest assured that I'll pick up all the weight that you drop.

How about on the first post....have the name/lbs want to lose/date.

Just a thought.

Great idea! I posted a poll to get everyones goals for the first three months, then we can just post updates on our individual progress. At the end of 90 days we can check in with everyone and add up everyones weight loss combined to see if we can lose a whole person.

I already dropped 60 pounds when I was in college. Now I'm 155 and work out daily.

Just completely cut out soda, fried foods and eating after 7-8 at night. Mix that with cardio and you'll be fine.

Need to loose between 20-30lbs, started walking about 1.5 miles a day, will increase to 2.0 when the weather warms up and my arthritic (sp) knees permit......eating lots of fruits/vegs, however I did fall off the wagon on the night of the 31st........

45 minutes of push ups, crunches and stretching this morning. Feels good now, probably won't be able to move by 5pm

Banana, granola and low-fat yogurt for breakfast.
