wonder with the year at OSU if any of those assistants will move on? Seems Meyer's days are counting down.

If there was ever a time for Kansas to emerge as a player in the Big 12 again, now is the time. TCU, Baylor, and KSU have all fallen back to mediocrity. Texas isn't the program it once was, although they're playing a bit better this year. OK St is also down right now. WVU is having a good year, but they're not a perennial favorite. The only team that is still dominate is Oklahoma. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of work to be done, but Les will attract recruits and in a few years I think he might make the Jayhawks competitive at least. With Oklahoma and probably just Texas really in his way I think he can make Kansas a respectable #3 in the Big 12.

We shall see...Texas is on the upswing, and always has potential to be among the best in nation. OK will remain a dominant force and WVU seems to always be a top 20 program. Miles should make KU better, but not sure he can provide the miracle they so desire. Might have been better to wait for KSU to move on from their coach.

Hell yeah, mad hat Lawrence up!!! Get things back on teach. KU actually has my biggest cfb won in my adult life. They actually won a BCS game.

I like Les as a person, and personality. He will definitely help in recruiting. Not suggesting he's gonna be the savior, and certainly not overnight, but things should get better over the next couple years. Sure does make it interesting. Hoping they give him the budget for some decent assistant coaches.

Nice insight into Miles from his daughter. One reason he will coach at KU is Jeff Long. If you ever get a chance, visit Allen Fieldhouse - fantastic.

Les Miles’ daughter, Smacker, confirms dad has snacked on green grass on sidelines

Earlier this week, Miles settled up a previous buyout with LSU for $1.5 million when he could have stayed unemployed and received $5 million more. Miles received a five-year contract from KU that will pay him $2,775,000 annually — an increase of about $1 million per year from Beaty’s salary but still lowest in the Big 12 — and also will receive additional retention bonuses in 2020 ($775,000) and 2022 ($450,000).

Texas will be top dog of the big 12 sooner rather than later. They’ve got the athletes and a d coordinator who is actually competent at his job. Could happen as early as next year honestly.

Any team that can field a competent defense would be the top dog in that conference these days. I like Texas’ odds as much as anyone.

Or are they more likely to stay and angle for the top job?

On that note, was reading Stewart Mandel this AM. Didn’t realize how much trouble Meyer was having, physically, on Saturday. I guess he was like doubled over in pain at times? He’s been miserable all season. Wouldn’t be surprised if his days at this point are counting down toward the single digits.

And on that note, imagine the dominoes if BOTH USC and Ohio State open up this year.

I think there are a few potential "bad" scenarios for this hire...

1, Kansas somehow does well (relatively speaking) as Les lights a fire there and they do well. This leads a better program to poach Les, and they return to the cellar.

2, Much like the hiring of Charlie Weis, Les just can't get it done in Lawrence, he's fired, and it proves once again that even a great coach can't turn it around there.

3, Les has a couple ok seasons, scandals emerge, he must resign.

Miles has the advantage of having coached at Oklahoma State as well as LSU, so he has recruited in recruit-rich Texas. Depending on whom he gets for assistant coaches he may be able to tap into regions in the South. He can promise early playing time with the advantage of having plenty of scholarships. Last time I looked KU total scholarship count was in the sixties. He could also recruit in Michigan, Illinois and St. Louis and KC. But the last few games in Lawrence attendance has been 15,000 or so.

Not like it's Miles's fault or anything but Kansas has ONE (1) football commit for 2019 right now. So if their scholarship count is in the 60s right now, that is pretty dire.

An interesting hire for Miles would be Kendal Briles, OC at Houston.

The Jayhawks starters are littered with Sr/transfers. This obviously a total rebuild. He may recruit in the JCs - Coffeyville, Dodge City, Independence, Arizona Western, E. Miss, etc - in the meantime.

Sure feels that way.

More importantly, why the fuck is Brian Kelly on that carousel?

When I mentioned this yesterday I was met with the... quit trollin' group attitude.

I'm not going to discuss any further than what I did yesterday or on what Cowherd repeated today but this stuff is going on right now.

Interesting article and all, but how is the real takeaway not that Les Miles' daughter goes by 'Smacker.' :djparty:

Though to be fair, if you were to ask me which CFB coach's grown adult daughter goes by Smacker, I might've guessed Miles or Mike Leach.

Albert Breer dropped a nugget into an NFL draft note column on SI.com. No real information, just speculatin.

https://www.si.com/nfl/2018/11/19/2019-draft-ed-oliver-attitude-character-houston-will-grier-chip-kelly-brian-kelly-trevor-lawrence

"5. Speaking of Kelly, after he initially said no to the Eagles in 2013, Philly called Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly. And other teams had previously expressed interest. The Irish coach’s star fell when the program slumped, and NFL people have always wondered if he was a little too tough, in a Nick Saban-type way, for today’s pro athlete. But now that Notre Dame has rebounded? It’s not impossible NFL teams start sniffing around again."

For those who didn’t watch Colin’s video, he basically states he thinks it’s possible Kelly would go to the NFL after this year and John Harbaugh would be #1 candidate to replace him.

You got it. Hermann has turned the corner at UT, and they will return to the instate powerhouse and compete vs OK for BIG XII title. Difference is UT will prioritize a good D.
Miles will improve KU, but still has to climb past WVU, ISU, OSU, TCU, KSU, TT, BU...gonna be a long uphill struggle.

That's not fair. I was asking for substantiation. Never even hinted at you trolling NDC, I know your posting history.
