Listening to today’s II pod and Prister said that Freeman stated Ludwig & Klein were his first two choices. Did Prister mean first two choices of candidates to interview or first two offers to go out? I didn’t think ND offered Klein…did they?
Yeah, the Klein thing is the trickiest part of the situation. MF certainly made it sound like Klein turned us down but it doesn't make sense that he would have been offered a job to turn down based on when Ludwig came to campus. Ludwig came to campus the day after Klein left. I don't think there's any way that the timing of Ludwig's interview was set up at the last minute. I think MF was always going to bring in Klein first and then bring in Ludwig right after, which means it was likely his plan was to interview Klein, and if it went well, tell him they have more candidates to interview but will be getting back with him very soon. If it didn't go well - and the report is Klein didn't do well when speaking to the QB room - then it was likely both parties would agree they wouldn't be moving forward with anything. The second scenario is what I think happened. So I think MF may have been doing Klein a favor by saying he wasn't interested in the job. I also think by doing that he's keeping the door open with Klein for future coaching considerations by not publicly implying that he didn't want him and making him look bad.

Also, I think the timing of the interviews likely means Ludwig was definitely MF's top choice. I think he planned to interview Klein, keep him on the back burner if he had to, but then interview Ludwig and make the hard push to land him. And then politely tell Klein they were going with someone else if Klein had still been in the running, which by that time, he wasn't.

War Daddy Parker and Fox Hole Watt.
Lets be honest here, the whole "War Daddy" thing is pretty cringe worthy.
I support Parker, and I think he'll have an easy job as this offense is ready to explode. Lets just...find a new nickname.
that is precisely why that War Daddy Parker is the only apt name.

TBH, these supposed funny names are insulting to our new OC and current coach . Show some respect.
I don't technically disagree. But the mood of things has turned dark around here so the mods are trying to roll with the crowd sentiment.

Here's to lighter times and celebration in the future!🍻🍻🍻🍻

Exactly. Most on here need to pull their dresses down because their camel toe is showing. The apology thread at the end of the season will be epic.

I think the name changes bring a bit of levity to an otherwise quite sad situation.
Agreed. With Freeman trying his best at spin and damage control my thoughts always go back to Swarbrick's letter to the Alumni / Boosters. What an incredibly condescending and stupid letter that seems to certainly convey the concern that where there was smoke there is fire. They truly fucked this up and his letter put an accentuation on this instead of containing the issue.

You need intelligence to be sorry….so that explains that.

Looks like Parker has secured his base in Kentucky. He needs a good showing in the Midwest now.

I actually don’t think Freeman was lying. At the end of the day Ludwig said no, buyout wasn’t truly an issue. Ludwig fishing for a raise. Happens all the time.

well its unfortunate the circumstances before the hiring of Parker. I thought he actually had a really good press conference all things considered. certainly can see how he would interview well.

I think quite a few of us already knew that this was likely back when he was initially hired as the TE coach. Couldn't have been put into a better situation to succeed as far as the talent in the QB, RB, and OL rooms. those are great places to start. WR room should be good enough. We dont have a first round bail out this time around though, so Parker will have to be a bit more creative i think. High quality QB play should make that a lot easier.

Probably 8 minutes or so into that presser Freeman stated "You're going to have guys who continue to move forward and move on. At the end of the day, coaches do what is best for themselves and for their families."

The second part was likely directed to the notion that Klein and Ludwig decided to stay put where they currently are. The first part he addressed as something that is a part of his job: hiring coaches to replace the ones who leave.

A lot of hand wringing happens on this site, and others to be fair, when assistant coaches leave. It has to be in the back of everyone's minds that it's going to happen more often than not that guys move on.

If he does what he says he's going to do, this is going to work out just fine. Alot of people can talk out of their ass, but I am rooting for him. Hire a great Oline coach and I'm ready to roll.

“Nobody is more charged to do this job than I am,” said Gerad Parker, 42, the Louisa, Ky. native and former Kentucky wide receiver who set the high school state record for career receiving yards (4,814) 24 years ago.

“Every morning I wake up from this point forward (will) be to put my feet on the ground and make this the right hire for Coach (Marcus) Freeman and everybody in this organization.
