Yeah, the Klein thing is the trickiest part of the situation. MF certainly made it sound like Klein turned us down but it doesn't make sense that he would have been offered a job to turn down based on when Ludwig came to campus. Ludwig came to campus the day after Klein left. I don't think there's any way that the timing of Ludwig's interview was set up at the last minute. I think MF was always going to bring in Klein first and then bring in Ludwig right after, which means it was likely his plan was to interview Klein, and if it went well, tell him they have more candidates to interview but will be getting back with him very soon. If it didn't go well - and the report is Klein didn't do well when speaking to the QB room - then it was likely both parties would agree they wouldn't be moving forward with anything. The second scenario is what I think happened. So I think MF may have been doing Klein a favor by saying he wasn't interested in the job. I also think by doing that he's keeping the door open with Klein for future coaching considerations by not publicly implying that he didn't want him and making him look bad.Listening to today’s II pod and Prister said that Freeman stated Ludwig & Klein were his first two choices. Did Prister mean first two choices of candidates to interview or first two offers to go out? I didn’t think ND offered Klein…did they?
Also, I think the timing of the interviews likely means Ludwig was definitely MF's top choice. I think he planned to interview Klein, keep him on the back burner if he had to, but then interview Ludwig and make the hard push to land him. And then politely tell Klein they were going with someone else if Klein had still been in the running, which by that time, he wasn't.
