I think it's who you know too, or where you're sitting. Back in 2011 I had a buddy fly in California for the Air Force game, he was fresh in the Army. He wasn't in uniform, but he was wearing fatigues and an Army sweatshirt so it was obvious what he did. My brother overserved him at the tailgate, but I thought he could hold his liquor since he was a young dude in shape. Well, after the Star Spangled Banner and a Stealth Bomber flyover I left him in our seats and let him know I would be right back. I went down to get a picture with my brother and grandparents in the gold seats only to find my brother wasn't there. I got a text from him shortly after. Turns out my buddy was puking down his sweatshirt trying to conceal/contain his situation and he was ratted out to an usher. My brother was on the way to the bathroom and saw him getting escorted out, he felt bad and decided to babysit him since he contributed to the problem. Since I bought my buddy's ticket and mine I got a nice letter from the University later saying if it happens again it's a permanent expulsion. That dude is a Captain in the armor division now!

Anyway, I decided to take my brother's place in the gold seats to keep my grandparents company. At that same game there was a girl passed the fuck out a row across from us. She would wake up, puke all over herself, and then fall back asleep. There was no attempt to conceal it or do anything. She was allowed to stay there the rest of game, which blew my mind after what I found out from my brother.
was she good looking; etc? maybe showing some skin? Which would explain why she did not get rousted

I live in Eugene, Oregon and I always thought UofO was a pretty good school

I just ran some numbers

They have an 88% acceptance rate and a 55% graduation rate

thats fucking insane

Forget about NDs 9% acceptance and 97% graduation

Theyre worse... by *a lot* than every other big time football school out there

Ohio State looks like Oxford in comparison

how nuts

the branding has done wonders for the Ducks

edit: Listen... I'm a lefty weirdo that wants everyone to get a good education. (and ND is doing a great job at that too!) but accepting everyone for a profit and then casting them aside is just awful and makes my stomach feel weird.

To Boognish: as an old prof I agree with all of those sentiments. To add some on-the-ground reality context, though --- I taught at Western Michigan University for decades. As a state school, and as a lower choice than UofM and MSU, we more or less needed to accept whoever applied. (We were BIG -- ~25,000 or up most years.) So what happened in the classroom? The freshman class turned out to be composed of everyone who was somewhere in the top two-thirds (occasionally lower) of their high school classes or even lower if they had a friendly school advisor or were on some "program." These included some fine students, but it included a BIG number of people who wanted a year away from Mom and Dad at a place they could go pretty wild. One year and out. (a little more if parents were wealthy and dumb, and the first courses were carefully picked, or cheating went on.)

So, I was a teaching excellence award winner who taught general science to those freshman as part of my job. I wasn't THAT hard on them. I sculpted the auditorium sized class (the 150-200 student one/ the one we had to provide to seat the masses) so that a simply decent student who took notes and was mentally involved could pass (because I was sort of spectacular with the content, way over half the class was in the B&up range.) BUT A FULL 25% OF EVERY CLASS FLAT FAILED. They didn't even show up after about the first two weeks (ths despite the class being in the top ten STUDENT-rated on campus.) They had "better things to do."

So, depending upon the pressure to accept certain students in the first place and the reputation of the school as a "good time" in the high school system and being a state school, you were forced to accept some of the still-utterly-stupid group. So you can have a school with LOTS of opportunity for academic excellence and lots of drunken flunk-outs. The 75% of my students I would be happy to recommend as good hires and neighbors. The 25%? They, frankly, at that time of their lives, were bums in the system. (Some of the excuses I heard to try to skip the work were over-the-top TV sitcom material.)

Tim talk without going into a injury every 30 seconds challenge:

Talked about Carr, Williams, Osborne, Greathouse, Gilbert, Porter, Jagusah, Craig, Traore, Faraimo, and KVAs injury. When he started going on about Traore’s injury two years ago I was like is this a bit lol. Might as well had Rob Hunt do the episode

He did but it provides context to those who only hear the sunshine pumping of ND is going to cruise to the NC game. They should but the biggest obstacle as of today looks to be injuries. Granted, EVERY program deals with injuries, but on a national podcast, I prefer he be more detailed b/c Elliott can’t be an expert on every team. Hell, he thought Fields was returning & seemed to have no idea that Jagusah had 4 surgeries since his initial one after the UTV injury.

Not just injuries. Team chemistry could be off; problems in the locker room
the 2024 Womens Basketball team SHOULD have made the Final Four; but it imploded

That's always possible, sure. It's a $40 million roster, and mo money, mo problems.
But this is a pretty veteran team, with a lot of key players who have been together for now three seasons, through the title run of 2024 and last year's disappointment, with a coaching staff that prides itself on culture. Compared with the collection of mercenaries a lot of college football teams employ now, I'd rather be us for sure.

Freeman also is a coach who, unlike Ivey, always seems to have his hand on the pulse of his team

247 did their final updates to the transfer rankings:

Tionne Gray - #2 Overall DL
Francis Brewu - #5 Overall DL
Quincy Porter - #13 Overall WR
DJ McKinney - #3 Overall CB
Jayden Sanders - #8 Overall CB
Keon Keeley - #14 Overall DL
Mylan Graham - #38 Overall WR (???????)

Bizarre Graham ranking, but loaded class overall.

The final composite rankings on 247 of '26 recruits + transfers gives ND an average recruit score of 91.88, #1 in the country by nearly a whole point. ND did this with 37 incoming. The 3 schools ahead of them in the overall composite rankings took an average of 51 players incoming.

That really is a crazy portal class. Mylan is just getting hit bc he’s a junior now with no production as opposed to a sophomore. Lot of productive WRs in the portal.

Getting two top 10 CBs in the portal while returning 2 outside starters (and arguably 3 with Golden in the slot) is also absurd. Excited to see what mckinnney can do bc Sanders looks like a baller.
