Hendrix shouldn't even touch the list, much less be #1. Dude wasn't a big-time recruit by any stretch of the imagination. He was around the 16th ranked QB in his class. Yeah, he sucked when he got in the game, but a borderline low 4-star being a bust isn't that crazy to consider.

Crist was the top rated QB in the class of 2008, and he severely underperformed his ranking. Jordan Johnson was a 5-star receiver, whose only noteworthy play at ND was one where he socked a defender in the face. Ishaq was a 5-star edge rusher whom was nothing more than a backup and then got suspended and left the program unceremoniously.

Yikes. Coney was definitely better than both Kiser and Tranquill.

Also what is with these vertical videos? They don't show the play. Football fields are horizontal.

Whoever is creating these videos is awful, and only taking into account the end of Weis to now.

Hendrix was pretty big shit. Chryst was definitely the next coming but couldn’t process a field. To be fair ND oline was ass at that time

Wow - do you guys not remember Coney? He was literally the #1 player on the team for Counting Down the Irish in 2018. He had 112 tackles in 2017 and 123 tackles in 2018. All he did was make plays. Neither Tranquill nor Kiser had even one season with 100 tackles.

Coney was a tackling machine his Jr and Sr year and was a great LB. It's more that I don't think it's a "no debate" sort of thing. I do remember he and Tranquill together were an insanely nasty duo.

His first year starting, Crist wasn’t awful. He had moments, but that team was absolutely rough! He didn’t make any amazing plays that I can recall, but he certainly wasn’t the (only) issue with that team.

Then he tore his patella against Tulsa and just never recovered. The first of that long line of QBs to never make a leap in year two under BK.

Crist was in during the infamous purple face Brian Kelly photo. Think Crist threw a pick on the ten yard line or something

That was Tommy Rees, against South Florida. Sept. 3rd 2011. Lou Holtz's son, Skip beat us.
The throw was to TJ Jones Inside the 10 yard line, and got picked off. 3rd quarter

Gripe about Coach Kelly, but Crist was not his fault.

Crist was injured and a surprising deer-in-headlights QB sometimes.

Think we fumbled on the 1 yd line for a return td. Shiity game
Fumbled on the 1, returned 99 yards for 6.

Crist throws a pick at the 7, touchback.

Rees throws to TJ Jones at the 5, it doinks off his helmet and is picked off.

ND got down to the 13, missed a chip shot field goal.

ND made it to the redzone 4 times and came away with ZERO points. 3 turnovers and a missed chip shot.

They didn't come away with points in the redzone until halfway through the 4th quarter. Absolute insanity.

That and a mid game weather delay. One of the most frustrating games ever to watch.

Crist had no confidence at all. A stark contrast to Clausen. He was, literally, not only one of the most unconfident qbs I've seen but just football players at any position. He also lacked enthusiasm. May be the most shocking bust ever for ND honestly. Agree with Hendrix wasn't a bust just wasn't great. Crazy and wonderful to think now how quickly and significantly Freeman has upgraded qbs.

No Gunner Kiel?
They would need some game footage and, well...

Honestly that list is pretty lame, and some serious recency bias. Styles and Merriweather sucked but by historic standards they were just the latest in a long line of mediocre WRs. Buchner will always have Marshall but also had Ohio State and that SCar bowl game. Andrew Hendrix? Honestly not even top 10 most disappointing QUARTERBACKS of this century. (Where's Five-Star Phil when you need him?)

But, again, most of the true busts - Kiel, Jurkovec, Greg Bryant, Isqhaq Williams, etc - didn't have enough game tape to make a social video like that.
