Just ran out to run an errand, and the local sports station 97.1 the Ticket (a lot of you are probably familiar with the Mike Valenti MSU rant following the 2006 monsoon game in E. Lansing) has been talking about ND and the new playoff format non-stop. They even went as far as to say that ND is at such a disadvantage that we "have to join a conference, full stop," and they even acted like they were speaking on behalf of the entire B1G conference by saying "we're full and ND is no longer welcome."

Valenti isn't on until 2, but I'm sure he'll follow the same song and dance; he HATES ND.

They can't seem to grasp that 1) Swarbrick helped to broker the deal and 2) Even in a scenario where we're ranked #1 at 12-0, we still get a bye during the conference championship.

Football fans are so pig-headed and delusional around here. It's maddening.
1. That 2006 show was the the all time best rant / meltdown ever.

2. Anyway I can find this new show you’re referencing? I need a good laugh.

Following up, I’m not sure why other fans care? If anything, Notre Dame has conceivably made it more difficult to win a NC. If we go 12-0, instead of a first round bye, we now have to win 4 in a row in a single-elimination playoff. You know what, we’re okay with that.

We aren’t receiving or asking for any special treatment. We’ve essentially held out that we’re remaining independent, we’ll willfully take a 5-12 seed, and bring on all 4 single-elimination games. We’ll be ready.🍀

Everybody has to win 4 in a row to win the championship and every undefeated winner will have won 16 games. ND is being treated no better or worse than any other team.

To add to that where as the conference championships are played at neutral sites if ND finished 11-1 or 12-0 they will get to play a home game. Advantage ND.

Just the idea of a CFB Playoff game on the frozen plastic tundra of Our Lady is unbelievable. I will spend half of my kids inheritance to get into that game but oh well... sucks to be her.

It'll be interesting to see what demand is like.
There was a piece a recent Pete Sampson mailbag about ND's ticket strategy for a playoff game. Given the short notice for scheduling the game, proximity to holidays (pretty sure it's at the start of Christmas break for students), and the possibility of more compelling matchups in the later rounds (like would you maybe rather go see us play Bama in the Rose Bowl in the second round), it's kind of complicated.
I'm sure it'll be a hot ticket, but maybe not as crazy as it might seem at first? (he says, hopefully).

Every Subway err Southshore Alum and all you wafer eating Toledoans will sell 3 shares of NVidia and be there.

I think that's a game that pulls CFB fans of any ilk from the Chicago/Detroit/Indy/Ohio bubble. I know I'd pay strong money to attend a CFP game at Purdue or IU if the same somehow, in the name St. Anthony, happened to them.

I'd be praying to St. Jude if I were an IU football fan...

Super random thought, did Antonio Carter ever land anywhere? I feel like he was supposed to be a stud coming in but he never really did much from what I remember

Not so far he hasn't, they found out he needed time to get up to speed for this level

Curious as to how much ND would control the tix for playoff game. Wouldn't the NCAA have a "plan" including school allotment, pricing, etc.? Obviously the home team would have an advantage being the home/local team. But, as pointed out, lots of tix for students and season ticket holders from out of state may not be snatched for the first round.
Being a season ticket holder, I'm pumped and looking forward to a playoff game in December in SB...hopefully vs maybe LSU......??

1) It really was lol, I can actually tolerate Valenti because he's a Spartan fan (hates scUM) but that rant was something else.

2) I'm not sure if they have recordings of their shows, I took a quick peek but couldn't find it. Here's the station's website; it's Karsch and Anderson from 10a - 2p, and I was listening around noon, so if you find it, it should be right in the middle of their show for Wednesday, 02/21.

I will give Karsch and Anderson some credit, they were very complimentary of our scheduling last week on that show. Quite a few Metro-Detroit ND fans called in to give their $0.02.

We’re sort of in uncharted territory here but in pro sports, the home teams typically control ticket sales for playoff games. I’d guess would be the same in college? But maybe not.

SIAP. If there's a better "analyst" than Josh Pate I'm yet to hear of him.

He pissed me of Louisville week, only because he was right, but he didn't have to rub our noses in it. Lol

That's just me being a salty ND fan. He really is quite good. I enjoy his show

Good article on the stupid "ND is irrelevant" conversations the past week from some big sports broadcasting outlets.

The long and short of the article is that many large brands have gone 30, 40, 50 plus years between national titles without the irrelevant label. AND Notre Dame is #5 in wins the past 5 years and #6 wins the past 10 years.

Hey Oklahoma. Congrats on your big move to the SEC. How's it feel to be behind Big 12 teams like Arizona, Kansas State, Kansas, Texas Tech, Iowa State, Utah and Oklahoma State in these odds? You are about to get Nebraska'ed. Hey, but at least you get to cash those big conference checks.

Its going to be hard for us to get in with 2 losses with our schedule. That's probably why we are so low.

Yeah, I get that.

Am I wrong to be pretty disappointed with a 2-2 record against A&M, Louisville, FSU, and USC?

Should I taper expectations? I see us at 11-1.

I like our chances against Louisville at home. Brohm is a great coach, and while they've got a 6th year QB on his 3rd school currently set as their starting QB, he did nothing noteworthy at Oregon or Texas Tech. We should win this.
FSU is at home and in November, the colder the better. They died the last time they came to South Bend in November. They'll have DJ suited up at QB probably. He doesn't scare me. I think we win by 2 scores, maybe more if it's cold.
USC at home, and they're Caleb Williams-less? Only question will be if that defense improves, but I'm the least worried about this game among the 4.
A&M gives me pause, not necessarily because it's A&M but because it's early, it'll probably be a night game, and it'll be at Kyle Field. They'll be fired up and make it a game. Plus Elko is the coach now, you know that defense will be tough.

I think 11-1 should be the floor with this team and this schedule. 12-0 is a very real possibility if the offense improves with Denbrock and it absolutely could and should.

+160 to make playoffs is especially interesting given our win total was 9.5 with heavy juice on the over.

The 10-2 observation is spot on - Vegas is saying we go 10-2 and miss.

Any way you cut it, the result of Week 1 at A&M will be a massive swing in either direction for our playoff chances.

I think one main reason for this is, for some of the conferences, there might be 2 or more favorites to win the conference and so those 2 or 3 teams will get better odds because winning their respective conference means an automatic bid even if they don't project to have a better season than ND.

For example, the 2 favorites to win the Big 12 appear to be Utah and K-State. The oddsmakers think each has a strong chance to win the Big 12 and probably a much better chance than anyone else in the Big 12, so their odds for making the playoffs get a bump because if one of them does win the conference they will automatically get in even if their ranking is relatively low.

That means, even if the oddsmakers think ND will end up being one of the top 12 by the end of the season, they know ND doesn't get an automatic bid so they can't give them an odds boost. They also know that each conference will only have one champion, so even though they show multiple teams from the same conference as having better odds of making the playoffs right now, they also know those odds will change once some of those teams fall out of CCG contention and will likely have worse odds of making the playoffs than ND as the season progresses assuming ND has the kind of season they expect them to have.

For the upcoming 2024 season, anyone know when tickets will be released to the general public? Also, what about game times or any other general info regarding the games? I remember the Ohio State "green game" pennant video came out roughly around this time last year. Lastly, are we still doing trumpets at the Sacred Heart of Jesus statue instead of inside the Golden Dome?
