Speaking of the new red shirt rule, does this affect past seasons as well? Or just from this season forward? Thanks.

Notre Dame was 70th in the FBS in offensive efficiency in its first three games and is 14th since Book became the starter. - Heather Dinich/ESPN

So it's been noted by multiple posters to stay off sports talk this week as it's going to be harsh.... I listened to a couple of random shows on the radio during my drive into work and oy vey... "Notre Dame is just sitting there waiting to ruin the playoff for everyone."... "They play absolutely no one from here on out, good news is they'll still probably lose as they aren't that good."... "UCF is more deserving."... "Any of the other three teams would crush them with ease."

I like listened to one, heard the garbage, turned it, heard the garbage turned it heard the garbage, arrived at work... all of like 20 minutes.

Media's absolute garbage, tooting our horn the last two weeks then acting like we're the worst team in the nation this week. Also Tim Tebow is the worst. He's runnin his mouth about ND even before the Pitt game and I think he honestly believes 6 SEC teams should be in the 4 team playoff. Stick to baseball and pretending that you're a good athlete Tim.

It’s a shame about Tebow, as he seems decent and he seems to be a good guy. Even last year I recall him being quite dismissive when we were on our run of pounding very good teams. It soured me on him as being blatantly biased and was disappointing. I want to like the guy, but when he is so obviously intellectually dishonest it is hard to respect him. Now I just roll my eyes when he speaks because no (non SEC homer) serious person can take his opinion as being correct. He’s just another in a long line of ND haters. I wonder if he’s constantly throwing shade because we never recruited him (I have no idea of his recruitment situation) or maybe didn’t want him enough when he was coming out of HS? There’s probably a reason he lets his bias show so transparently though, I’m not convinced he honestly believes what he says. Adding to that is he spews factually inaccurate nonsense regarding ND as well.

ESPN last week said we were the biggest threat to Alabama. A week later... WIN an ugly game against a team who is known for pulling off crazy upsets over superior opponents, despite making every self-inflicted error possible... and it’s “ND is a fraud.” This is how you know the media is a total joke.

The best is the narrative that Michigan is “better” than Notre Dame because they got one mediocre win over an untalented, vanilla Wisconsin team. Despite ND beating them head-to-head. And despite Michigan going down 3 scores to Northwestern before barely winning. Nobody cares about that, it’s all about making excuses for how awesome Michigan is and how bad ND is.

The reason pundits are doing this now is that with all the chaos they’re scared about a 1-loss Notre Dame having an avenue in. Before last week, odds were strong that ND had to go 12-0 to get in... now there is a case for them getting in at 11-1 over a hypothetical 12-1 Big Ten champ Michigan. Now there is a case for the SEC getting shut out of the playoffs if Bama stumbles against LSU and you have deserving 1-loss champs from other conferences + Notre Dame. People are scared, and ND is the easiest target because they don’t have an SEC Network, etc. to run cover for them.

The truth is that ND has a top 5 defense and whether they are an “elite” team or just “very good” depends on whether the OL can figure its shit out and if the offense can be consistent.

Forget the fact ND beat Michigan.

What's more impressive since?

Beating Stanford 38-17 and VT 42-18, or beating Wisconsin 38-13?

I think it's been going on for a while. Tebow threw some shade at Brady Quinn when they were both in Denver due to him being an ND grad. If I had to guess it might have something to do with Evangelicals disliking Catholicism.

Who knows. Are any of those teams actually any good? Who knows.
What is known is that we played Michigan and beat them handily. They’ve done nothing to supersede that. If they curb stomp Ohio State then maybe there’s an interesting discussion to be had but until then it’s all noise.

It's particularly noticeable from the SEC analysts. They went from generally giving ND props for looking like a defensive-minded team with enough athletes on offense to win (gee, sounds an awful lot like teams they're familiar with), and doing so against a tough early schedule...

To now: ND is a fraud, they hope ND goes undefeated to make it easier on the SEC in the playoff, they don't play anyone, etc. etc.

SEC folk are in full defense/panic mode, and bringing up '12 to argue, because they see the writing on the wall that the rest of the country has caught up to them... They've got Bama and maybe LSU and Georgia to hang their hats on, otherwise they look like every other conference these days, and the playoff and the "top four" arguments that have to be considered every time you talk about "top teams" have made it more obvious.

I truly believe that Tebow is anti-Catholic. Here’s what his father’s website says about the Phillipines:

Of the 86 million Filipinos, we estimate that over 65 million have never once heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Here is the religious breakdown of the Phillipines from the U.S. Dept of State:

The country has a total area of approximately 115,831 square miles, and its population is approximately 84 million. Over 81 percent of citizens claim membership in the Roman Catholic Church, according to the official 2000 census data on religious preference. Other Christian denominations together comprise approximately 8.9 million, or 11.6 percent of the population. Muslims total 5 percent of the population and Buddhists 0.08 percent. Indigenous and other religious traditions comprise 1.7 percent of the population of those surveyed. Atheists and persons who did not designate a religious preference account for 0.5 percent of the population.

It’s obvious that at least his father does not equate Catholosism with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Or, he’s terrible at math.

Such a joke, Michigan somehow jumped Texas this week even though Texas pretty much manhandled OU until the last 9 minutes of the game AND has two other top 25 wins. Michigan beats cupcakes, barely beats Northwestern, and then beats a terrible Wisconsin team and let's put them in the top 6, unreal. Can't wait till we curb stomp USC before they meet Stanford in the Pac 12 championship game.

I dont think Wisky is very good. I think they are only ranked based on recency bias. This team is smaller and slower. BYU matched up with them well. And BYU is garbage if you have any inkling of speed. Wisky is the same. I think if you have speed, they fold. Aranda isnt there on defense anymore to cover them. Trust me, I wasn't impressed at all with their big win over Wisconsin. In a perfect world, they lose to Penn St. then somehow beat OSU giving us the 2-3 spot.

I don't think BYU is garbage/terrible either... though it's subjective I guess. I hear 'garbage' or 'terrible' I think FBS or P5 bottom dweller like my Jayhawks or such... those teams are garbage...

agreed Wiskey may not be as good this year though. It's still a nice win.

Coming from a BYU student and avid BYU hater, I may be biased. But I've watched enough of their games and been around the athletes themselves to know they are about a 50-60 range team in the country. Garbage may have been a strong word, but ND would win by at least 30 if they played BYU or Wisconsin imo.

So where would you rank Pitt, Vandy and Ball State in this then???

Also, you go to BYU but hate them???
