Yessir. Given our personnel I'm 100% certain this defense will be effective. Tranquil and possibly Bilal in the rover plus dialing up pressure with twists and the style of blitzing it uses to take pressure off of our underdeveloped DE's is EXACTLY what we need. Considering we have high IQ players with a lot of underclassmen energetic about getting after it plus a true Captain and leader at MLB with Nyles Norgan plus Greer Martini, we have a nice little recipe. Our offense will score points. I'm a lot more optimistic for '17 than I was for '16.

I'm hoping the same man. I thought the Irish would have hammered out 9/10 wins in 2016 with the given schedule. I'm ready for Midnight tonight to wash away 2016 Irish woes.... My Titans missed the playoffs too....... but, Penguins and Cubs came through for me. Cubs WS is still keeping my smile - that's for d@mn sure!!!!!!!!!!

This screen shot gives us a good look at Elko’s base defensive alignment. We’ll start closest to the ball with the defensive line (green arrows). The first thing to note is the stand-up defensive end (green star). Generally speaking he lines up to the weakside.* For the most part he is a rush end, but will drop into coverage every now and then. This*is very similar to the way Notre Dame used the weakside defensive end position under Brian VanGorder (BVG).

I can just see the aneurysms on this board.............

Good article. Playing mostly a base, 4 man front, defense should allow our guys to actually play football instead of playing chess and then football after the next 12 moves are carefully calculated.

Also, putting Drue Tranquill or Nicco Fertitta at Rover would be a better use of their skills. And I could see Julian Love excelling there because he's better in man coverage than Tranquill.

This is how I'd project the lineup next year.

DE - D Hayes/Trumbetti
DT - Cage
DT - Tillery
DE - J Hayes/Bonner

LB - Morgan
LB - Coney
Rover - Love (against spread teams) / Tranquill (against pro style teams)

CB - Crawford
FS - Studstill
SS - Tranquill/Elliott
CB - Pride/Vaughan

Is there a "recruiting 2017 homestretch" thread that I am unable to find?

Any late offers being put out there? potential (good) surprises/flips?

or are we holding our breath and just trying hold on to commits we have as we inch towards NSD?

Look in the 2017 Master List. Updates on offers and such are in there. Or a thread that i wouldn't mind being resurrected...the Who's Next to Commit thread.

could have sworn last couple years we had a single thread for all the recruits we "were in play with" and such, even if they were longshots, late visitors etc.
was a list of like of about 10 recruits....

Yeah, it might be hard to put together right at this moment. Once staff is put together and offers, visits start rolling then we'll have clearer picture.
