Those odds are based on expected money wagered.

The true mathematical odds will be released as soon as the joint task force's computers, headed by MIT and Powerball, arrive at the final calculation. Could be a few weeks, computers are still only so fast you know.

I wouldn't bet ND to win the championship at 500 to 1.

Could they make the playoffs? Maybe, because the ACC schedule is super soft so there are maximum 3 games on the schedule where I don't think we are favored.

But there isn't a chance in hell they beat two playoff teams.

Will Clemson's championship win just make Alabama even stronger?

This kiss of death for next year.
stewart: Which team with four or fewer wins has the best shot to make the playoff next year? A few candidates: Oregon, Michigan State, UCLA, Notre Dame.

Make the playoff? I’m not going there. But I could see Notre Dame sneaking into a New Year’s Six bowl. And yes, I’m required as a member of the national media to say that.

After this season's meltdown, you still think we are favored in 9 of the 12 regular season games next year? I'd make us the favorite in the Miami of Ohio game, and I'm not real confident it that either. We've got a lot to prove on the field next year.

Well betting lines have as much to do with popularity of a team as actual talent. Depending on how the season is going we could be favored in every game until USC. MSU and UNC will be favored if we have already lost a game or two.

Exactly. You can never tell what's going to happen until the season starts, but there is a strong indication that this schedule will be weak (just like this year's...). We could absolutely make the playoffs next year. We could also go 7-5 or worse.

I could bet $10 to win $5,000... I would bet that all day when a team "could" make the playoff

IMO making the playoffs is probably 100-1 odds (might be generous). I think the chance of winning two playoff games is 0% so there are really no odds at 500-1 or less favorable that I would be willing to bet.

I would have to agree. I predict we will improve next year due to schematics and potent offense. In '18, ND will be settled in the new Schemes and guys like Wimbush, Adams, ESB, Alize, Coney will be senior (assuming they're all back) and poised for big years. Speculating anything is super difficult right now with the new staff and QB

Three OLs, McGlinchey, Nelson and Bars will be on the line for sure and a fight for center between Mustipher and Hoge. Bivin, Kraemer, Eichenberg and Boudreaux in the mix, the offense should produce some good numbers.

CJ getting Corey's dirty old jerseys?

Hahaha. Yep. I think he'll be a lot more productive than Corey was. Corey lacked toughness and grit in his game. In a few years, I think Tony Jones and CJ Holmes will be a great 1-2 punch.

I thought the first part was, and then it kind of went off in a different direction attacking fans or whatever they are. Not that I don't agree that the kind of person that roots for ND to do bad, so one coach gets fired, is a nebish (hope these people never get to a position of power; "punish them all because their leader may have committed an offense!"), but this are idjits, and the point the article started out needs to be addressed. If you throw out Kelly's worst and best season, he is an eight win coach, when we play nine teams we should have a good chance to beat each year.

A) He under-performs, there are more beatable teams on each years schedule than his average number of wins per season; and, just recently I have read a spate of articles that list ND subjectively (is there any other way) as having top five, six, or seven recruiting talent, and averaging, drum roll please, just at the edge of, or outside of the top 25 in performance.

B) How many times is it going to take him to hire/fire coaches to get the formula 'right?' Remember, fewer and fewer are his guys, and more and more are Notre Dame guys, or have no previous connection with Kelly, or the Irish. Remember, Holtz just basically needed to get Alverez installed as DC, and then he was good for a Natty. And people don't even give Holtz credit for how many times he was there only to be denied. The BC upset team, would have made the playoffs today and won the Natty, and they should have won then. That year with FSU was the Bobby Bowden life time achievement award.

C) Sooner or later everyone is going to have to realize that Kelly has basically flipped the staff twice now, and still not achieved the result he was hired to produce. And maybe even more importantly, over an eight year as this process has unfolded, a relatively young coach has turned a bit over the hill. How many good years does he have in him? How long does he want to continue to coach?

A better way to turn the article may have been how to discuss Kelly achiving all he could next year, while the program maintains continuity for a successor.

Personally, I hope Kelly wins 10 + games next year. Best case scenario for me.

I believe that, short of everyone sitting around and smoking reefer after a National Championship victory next January, there is little chance Kelly will coach the Irish for two more seasons. (And no chance he will for three.)

So I want to hear all the continuity ideas now. Not the same things goofball fans have been doing for ages.

So robbed that '93 season...fucking BC and FSU....we would have dominated in the NC game.

I just took a hard look at the schedule-5 losses, 4 toss up games, and 3 more than likely wins. Glass half full guy says 7/5, glass half empty guy says 6/6. It could be 5/7 and a good coach will bite the dust. Kelly has no chance unless there's something going on that I cant see. This is a soft football team and the people that are pulling the strings have no one to blame but themselves. The ten year plan is only at year 5. We have 4-5 more years of mediocre football. Remember the plan--compete for a national title every 10 years then go back into mediocrity.

I hated Bersich for a long time after that. Right through his hands and hit him in the damn helmet...
