I seriously don't understand all the love for USC. I mean, they lost to us last season despite the injuries we had on defense, not to mention we were completely inept on offense the entire 2nd half once Tommy went out. This year we're deeper, while USC is thin on their roster due to sanctions. I understand Kiffin was pretty bad, but I don't see how they're so favored.

Because it's Southern Cal, and theyll be a popular discussion for the simple fact that they have a new head coach. I dont believe that Sarkesiean(sp?), is truly THAT much better than Kiffin, but we shall see......

This. I do not understand how we are such dogs to USC. We did not play offense the entire 2nd half...and still won (granted Tuitt was a beast that game). One of the most amazing victories that I can remember simply because they had the ball on our side of the field the ENTIRE half and couldn't score.

The 2013 USC-ND game tells us nothing about either team because that game was a goddamn disaster.

Once Rees went out, our guys barely did either. I'm with the others here, I don't get us being dogs to USC for any reason besides the game is in SoCal. I'm sure they have plenty of talent and it's unlikely that Sark will screw the pooch like Kiffin did so it won't be a cakewalk. But still, it should be about an even money shot at best for the Trojans.

Not to sound like a homer but a dynamic QB gives ND a fighting chance in all the games. If they win at FSU it wouldn't surprise me.

University of Notre Dame graduate assistant Kyle McCarthy (‘09) will take intermittent leaves of absence from the Irish football program, head coach Brian Kelly announced Thursday morning.
“A few weeks ago, I was diagnosed with a very treatable form of cancer,” said McCarthy. “Yesterday, I began chemotherapy as the next step in eliminating this disease. I'm truly blessed to have such amazing love and support from family and friends.
“Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers over the last few weeks. I expect a full recovery and look forward to returning to the team during and after my treatment. Go Irish!”
“Kyle’s attitude and outlook toward his treatment is remarkable,” said Kelly. “We will support him the entire way. We are very confident he’ll receive the necessary treatment to make a complete recovery.”
McCarthy is in his first year as a graduate assistant with the Irish, working primarily with the team’s secondary. A team captain in 2009, McCarthy’s 240 career tackles rank second in school history amongst defensive backs. McCarthy signed with the Denver Broncos in 2010 and played in a total of 12 games for the club over the 2010 and 2011 seasons. He later signed with both the Kansas City Chiefs and Oakland Raiders but a series of knee injuries ended his NFL career last fall, leading him back home to his alma mater in the spring of 2014.

COMPLETELY off topic but it drives me nuts that he (and other professional WRITERS) butchered the use of the word "cache." A "cache" is a hidden store of something, such as weapons or treasure. "Cachet" is the correct word when talking about the perceived prestige of FSU's ACC schedule, e.g. "a Rolex watch adds a certain cachet to his appearance."
