Toledo leading in a trackmeet over BYU 45-42 with 10 minutes to play. Toledo has 626 yds total off with 444 yds passing so far.

So, in Lion's 2020 thread we should go ahead and predict 800 passing yards against us when we face Toledo?

lol This is delightfully absurd

I am suggesting that the results you see on the field are absurd.

I'm sorry guys - I'm not meaning to fan the flames - and I do think this has little to do with Nick Coleman. We have at least 3 Nick Colemans on the field every year.

I recognize you all think I'm out of line, but I'm simply suggesting that we have to stop acting like we're so damn special. We're no more special than Army, Navy and the Ivy League. I'm suggesting we cut the BS we put ahead winning football games. It's my belief that if we don't, that's where we are heading.

Why do we want to handcuff ourselves? Why do we treat athletes any different than they are treated elsewhere in football? What does it get us? Loyalty? Extra points in the Crapital One Cup Standings? GSR standings? It gets us a <80 man roster every year, of that much I'm sure.

Honestly, what is the point of the 40 Year Commitment pitch? It's dysfunctional and is emblematic of our entire attitude problem. Best part is, it doesn't even cut both ways. LOL.

Here's my manifesto:

* Academic matters should impact our program to a LESSER degree than other schools, not to an exponentially higher degree. We have had more academic suspensions in the past 5 years than the entire SEC has had in 50 years (not a fact).
* Accept students with less stellar academics - and give them whatever resources are needed to stay eligible. It would be nice if some of them graduated.
* Drop the 40 year commitment motto for recruits. Come to Notre Dame because it gives you the best chance to play football for a living, to achieve glory and win championships.
* Handle legal matters on par with other big-time programs.
* Make a decision regarding conference alignment that best serves our opportunity to win championships. I believe this is best done by joining the ACC fully. Am still not clear how "independence" does anything other than get the rest of CFB to unify against us. I won't miss annual games with Stanford, Navy, and random B1G members. Won't miss NBC either.
* Hire the best coaches money can buy, pay them the most money, give them whatever they need to win championships. This includes turf, jumotrons, names on uniforms, fireworks, billion dollar training facilities, etc...
* Oversign and cut players at the same rate as other top programs. We enter September every year with a self imposed sanction. I wonder if there were any DBs in the last 5 years we said no to because there wasn't enough room? (Hint: there were)
* Stop pretending that anything is more important than winning. I have had enough human interest stories about ND players and staff to last a lifetime. Enough great white hope Rudy reinvented walkon fantasy figures. Enough singing. Enough band. Enough honoring the girls tidlywinks team. Enough graduation rates. Enough class presidents. Enough homely cheerleaders. Enough talk about special this and unique that. Army used to win. They are very special. Nobody cares.
* Take away ticket privileges from anyone not willing to stand and scream their heads off the entire game.
* Don't cheat.

In more ways than one, we are getting further away from 1988 with each passing year.

Reading on Twitter, the almighty news source, Gary Gray has filed a lawsuit vs the NCAA and Notre Dame for the lasting effects of concussions.

Please go find another team to root for or in your case, to bash.

I love ND because it is special. It has a higher moral and faith than the other schools. You wanna be a liberal, educated, Christian hater? Go to Stanford. If winning is your only goal in life, go to Bama. There is more to life than winning at a football game no one will remember 10 years from now.

I do believe ND is different. I like the higher moral standards because once you start letting things slide, it all goes. Every one of those boys suspended knew what they were doing. They just got caught. Max knew what he was doing rolling around in an unregistered gun. How hard would it have been to actually do the legal thing and file for a permit? People like that will continue to show discontent and blight their whole lives.

So if ND sucks this year, it sucks. ND will never again be the top of the charts at football. Far too many athletes are athletes first, students third. They dont want to work at school. For some reason, their parents raise them with the eye on the immediate and short term prize and not lifelong. That's why most of them wind up working for the city or something comparably impressive after their football days are done. Great job mom and dad!

As long as their are places like ND that actually adhere to what universities are SUPPOSED to be about, education and increasing the moral fiber of its students, then there is hope. When they turn away from that ideology, woe be to the future and hope of our society.

Actually, you might want to go with him. For a drink at least.

Loosen up. Stop acting like you have any right to project your own moral beliefs on someone else, and because another doesn't have your beliefs, there is something wrong with them.

I find it interesting that you 'love' ND so much, and that the rest of your post(s) show little love toward anything else. Give it a rest.

YOU give it a rest. Do I bash the terrible coaches of ND? Of course I do. But I dont bash the university itself. Please research before you accuse sir.

Sure I swing moral beliefs. But why not? If you arent for ND because it is a morally strong school with Christian backbone, why would you be for ND? Sure as heck isnt because the recent football or future potential football. There are a lot better schools to cheer for that.

Ahem, I am talking about your fellow man, you know, anything in this world other than Notre Dame.

And frankly, I am tired of your boorish, pedantic, nasty posts in general.

When is the last time you have had anything upbeat or positive to say about anyone?

It's been near beaten to death on ISD, but Kelly's "passive" scheme is largely the problem here, especially in the run game.

Oh for sure! Huge problem last year too. Scheme had nothing to do with Bars getting humiliated evey play against Thomas.

The run game has been a huge improvement since Kelly took over. Y'all piling on cause your lazy AF.

Having talent and failing to execute is a coaching problem. Poor coaching is the exact reason we're 2-5 right now. #FireKelly

It has been addressed numerous times. YPG, efficiency, etc all look to be pretty good over the years. However, due to scheme, ND struggles in third/fourth and short and is more dependent on "chunk plays" in the running game rather than a consistent, 4-5 yards per carry scheme that leads challenges endurance and strength of the opponent. Last year is a perfect example. ND was 58th in the nation in power success rate and 87th in stuff rate. Power success if 3/4 down runs requiring 2 yards or less to get a 1st down or TD. Stuff rate is the % of RB carries that go for 0 yards or less.

That is scheme.

22. Mike McGlinchey, Notre Dame
Outside of a handful of plays, McGlinchey has made a smooth transition to left tackle where he remains one of the nation’s top run blockers while showing well in pass protection. He’s a late-bloomer with great size and he’s been as productive as any Power-5 offensive tackle the last two seasons.

32. Quenton Nelson, G, Notre Dame
Nelson has impressed since stepping in as a starter last season. He’s a powerful run blocker, and he’s shown capable of making blocks on the move in the run game. He’s continues to improve in pass protection and he brings one of the nation’s best all-around packages to the guard position.

Watch list:

Solomon Thomas, DI, Stanford
Malik Hooker, S, Ohio State
Mitch Trubisky, QB, North Carolina
DeShone Kizer, QB, Notre Dame
Ryan Anderson, Edge, Alabama
Quincy Wilson, CB, Florida
Marcus Williams, S, Utah
Nate Gerry, S, Nebraska
Jamal Adams, S, LSU

BS. That's kids getting their A$$ handed to them. If you block the scheme right, like Adams 98 yard run against WF, then you win the game (or make gain). Blow the assignment, Like in the Clemson 2 Pt. conversion, you lose the game (or get stuffed).

The trouble is you need five good offensive linemen to have a good offensive line. Certainly four. Right now we have two.

Poor wording, no?.

According to PFF, you have a great tackle (#1) and a great guard (#1).

In contrast, does that make Alex Bars not good?

Mitch Trubisky really intrigues me. Think he could be day 2 pick whenever he comes out. At worst I think he could be a serviceable backup for many years in the NFL.
