Cold open!? First one?
Arbor Gold is a red wine in this dumbass show. Lazy AF.

Can Bran just see whatever he wants whenever he wants? No weirwoods, just sitting in a sled all crippled in the middle of the snow.
Jon Snow, feminist icon. #WokeInTheNorth
Euron must have borrowed Littlefinger's teleporter. And he's dressed like a gay pirate.
Diarrhea jokes.
Gwendoline Christie is amazing.
Ed Sheeran what the fuck?
Sandor Clegane is more amazing than Gwendoline Christie.
"Legends of the Long Night" is a handy title of this book. The Restricted Section at Hogwarts is more complicated than the entire library in the Citadel.
Danaerys landing on Westeros is anticlimactic AF. Dragonstone reclaimed. Easy peasy. No fire. No blood.
Euron must have borrowed Littlefinger's teleporter. And he's dressed like a gay pirate.
The end was kind of cheesy, but still got me hype for next week.
The end is perfect for a character the audience loves or respects. "Oh shit she spoke! Get hype!" It'd be great for an Omar from the Wire or a Gus Fring from BB. Only problem is that the show creators expect us to love Dany without ever giving us a reason to do so. She's a one note character who used to be sympathetic because she was raped throughout the entire first season by Attila the Hun. For some reason the writers of this show have always just assumed we think she's awesome because she gets so many "bad ass moments." It's an interesting disconnect between the show runners and their audience. I mean, who watches this show and honestly thinks "Man that girl is a great strategist/leader/general/diplomat"?
No one, but they do think, "Man that girl is a true humanitarian with enough instability to hand out brutal justice, while pushing it far enough to be concerned with when she finally goes too far, and she is the legit heir to the throne, who was sent away and abused by her shithead brother, but still tries to look out for people despite her hardships. And dragons."
I understand what you're saying about the disconnect between her qualities as one who inspires others, compared to the lines and moments she is gifted... but there are qualities that aren't typical "hero" material, but actually trend that way when you consider her general outlook in spite of the difficulties in her life.
This. Dany suuuuuuuucks.Eh. I'm not going to retype my issues with Dany on this board because they are well documented. But, IMO, her general character is "I'm going to be queen of a continent I've never seen because it's my birthright and I have medieval WMDs, damn the consequences to any poor people living there; I'm forever upset my son who was prophesied to metaphorically fuck the world wasn't given a chance to live; and I like to take over different cultures without understanding them and without any real plan for the future."
The writers have predetermined she's a good guy and a strong leader, so the show is written in such a way that reflects that. They've just never given us any reason she actually is, IMO, so it feels like a pretty major disconnect. A good example of this is Varys and Tyrion. These two are shown repeatedly to be master tacticians. If you put yourself in their shoes with what they have seen thus far, they have little reason to think Dany is any more than a girl who was lucky enough to have dragons. But for some reason, they've both had scenes speaking at length about how amazing she is. It's a jarring disconnect that is major enough to the show that I don't feel like it's nitpicky to point out. Dany is obviously a a character I'm supposed to think is awesome. She comes off as lucky.
For the opposite see: John Snow. His leadership, strong moral compass, and self sacrificing nature are all very well established over multiple seasons. Hell if I was his bannerman, I'd be willing to die for the guy. He's a fucking bro. The writers did a great job establishing this, so when people seem willing to die for him I buy it.
This. Dany suuuuuuuucks.
I think Tyrion is amazed that there is someone out there willing to look out for the little people. She sucks in terms of collateral damage, but maybe he helps with that?
And Varys wants peace. He thinks the road to peace is in supporting Dany at this point, or at least being close enough to act if she goes all Mad Queen.
She does have redeeming qualities, but her main argument is "I want because it's mine." This clouds her judgement, and blinds her to the hints of madness, but Is that so bad in the grand scheme of things, though? That Is literally the foundation of the series... characters don't really need more of a motivation than that. And she has that, PLUS she's the breaker of chains. She shows sympathy to those beneath her, and the only other characters proven to feel the same (Jon; Tyrion) are gravitating towards her.
They make up for her shortcomings, or at least answer them with their own positive traits, and form the three-headed Dragon. It makes sense.
She's a reckless, pouty teen, but that doesn't mean she isn't worthy of heroic lines and fanfare.
We have 15 hours left of material and they dedicated a full minute to Sam emptying pans full of shit.
We'll agree to disagree on this one. As you say, she wants what she wants for the same reason most other characters in the show do. The difference is that she isn't presented like most characters on the show. If she was, I wouldn't have complained. But she is portrayed as a good guy and as someone who the audience should root for. I don't think the show ever earned that.

I was amazed to see there were no hobos walking around in Dragonstone when they opened the gate.
So Sam's letter is going to get to Jon and Jon will head to Dragonstone for the dragon glass which will be the first time Jon and Dany meet. Guessing this is obvious that this happens. Will be an interesting first encounter.
I'm not sure why this is so surprising to everyone. Outside of the obvious point that it really doesn't matter, it also is easily explained. First off, the castle sits on a rock and isn't a self sustaining castle. So you would have to be of great wealth to hold, bring food in and protect a site like this. Who in the realm would have to power or need to hold it at this point? In regards to squatters, I'm pretty sure anyone squatting would see an armada of boats with Targaryan banners coming, common sense would be that they would flee from the Targaryan castle in which they are squatting. Finally, even if some didn't escape, they didn't show them sweeping the entire castle. If there were squatters, they aren't gonna try to greet them at the gates.
Some of you show poo poo'ers are like the annoying friend that can never enjoy a restaurant because it's "not authentic like when I went to _______". After six years of listening to you guys talking about how a tv show doesn't live up to the books (thanks for the hot tip, we never knew books could be better than their tv portrayal), I think we have gotten the message.
I sure as hell don't care what a grown man wearing a captain America shirt spinning a fidget spinner thinks of my tv entertainment. That's for certain.

You're entirely missing the point. "The books are better" was the argument in seasons one through three or so. Since then, the show has been affirmatively bad. It's incoherent. Plot holes, logic gaps, inconsistent characterization, zero sense of time or geography, bad acting, poor dialogue, etc. All of those things would be true even if there were never any books for comparison.I'm not sure why this is so surprising to everyone. Funny, because you really seem to. And I just cooked breakfast so it's currently a Captain America apron.I sure as hell don't care what a grown man wearing a captain America shirt spinning a fidget spinner thinks of my tv entertainment. That's for certain.
Like last night's BIG REVEAL dragon glass moment with Sam... that we've known for several years but the plot didn't demand we remember until now. It's just lazy.

When the show caught fire, they started dumbing it down for the masses. Like last night's BIG REVEAL dragon glass moment with Sam... that we've known for several years but the plot didn't demand we remember until now. It's just lazy.
