Two interesting points here: the cancel culture and it’s reputation for irrational punishment and did he really get tested? The CNN report said two of Amy Barrett’s supporters were not tested. Was Fr Jenkins tested? If not don’t see how he hangs on. BTW he waived his hippa rights when he publicly said he was tested

Should have kept them all on campus in the spring - everywhere. Would have spread like wildfire and none would have brought it home. Anyone worried about it - go on sabbatical and pick up where you left off once you feel "safe" enough to return. More college kids die from drunk driving or alcohol poisoning than will die of COVID. Hilarity of it is that the kids are protecting Jenkins and the geriatric tenured crowd, not the other way around.

Jenkins has made his bed, let him sleep in it. If you want to bow to the liberal mob then you don't get to whine when they turn their pitchforks toward you. Seems a bit of Karma for bashing Lou for standing up against abortion. Maybe they could work towards being remotely balanced and hang their hat on an impressive conservative being nominated to SCOTUS with ND ties. Universities are so ridiculously liberal you might find a nice lane by giving kudos to some conservatives.

The current students want Jenkins to resign for not wearing a mask....

Monk Malloy ran Lou out of town, hired Bob Davie and Tyrone Golfingham and was never asked to resign. Individually, those are all far more egregious than "being a hypocrite and not wearing a mask!!"

Jesus H Christ what a bunch of pussies on campus.

He did more than run Lou off. He, Beuchamp and Wadsworth destroyed the program permanently.

To be clear, I agree that this is a bad look for Jenkins, and he deserves to be dragged for it. I just hate the instinct to immediately call for a leader's job whenever someone's upset with them.

But you gotta stay outraged, all the cool kids are doing it. Rational thought be dammed.

I would love for Jenkins to come out and talk about his Catholic beliefs. Is he a spiritual man? Does he actually follow Catholic doctrine about abortion? Is he a Marxist? I’d love to know the Catholic priest, not the president of ND. A number of years ago, he was pressed on the abortion issue and he refused to say that abortion was wrong.

I can confirm that Father Jenkins has never had an abortion.

It's all about the mask. The students are absolutely pissed that their leader didn't follow the same protocols that he is demanding of the students.

This.

Leaders need to be leaders, and it's no surprise that the Mangostans in here fail to understand that point.

He's got to be getting tested and if he turns up positive, the noise from the outraged students will be loud.

Regardless, this is not a fireable/resignation offense. Besides Father Jenkins has been a good supporter of the FB program and has helped in getting things trending up. Fire him and we could end up with another Malloy.

Agree. Did ND really expel students for having a party?

Not 100% sure. Some guys from O'Neill were suspended at a minimum. Maybe expelled.

Quite a few parties were going on. Notre Dame found out most of them via the "snitch" form from other students. Notre Dame promised to not punish those people as a means to encourage students to report others. Notre Dame found out about the O'Neill party from neighbors and the book was thrown at them.

You think the kids were pissed before? Not saying that Jenkins should be fired. But if he can simply apologize and say it's a good reminder .... then those kids who were severely punished should be reinstated.

I think what they really need to be concerned about right now is if he spread it to anyone else and if he did, to contain it before it gets to students. Students getting it from one another is one thing, but getting it from the University President days after flying across the country to attend an event without a mask is a completely different thing. Like we cannot even be certain if that is where he got it, but the optics of it are too bad and its what most people will immediately go to. If any student gets it and has long term damage, those parents would probably raise absolute fucking hell.

Yeah he doesn't need to resign, but he can't just go "woops". Given that you can't really "fine" someone who is a member of the clergy or give him a suspension like a typical administrator, what should his punishment be?

I think his penance should be hand delivering a 6-pack of Corona to each student with a mask and personal apology.

reassignment is probably the only punishment, send him off to Rome or somewhere to do some task or another

Its pretty damned obvious where he got it.

Real talk though there had to be a super spreader at that White House event

Yeah that seems the most likely explanation at this point. Someone was incubating and spreading but not yet positive -- similar to what happened at ND football two weekends ago -- and now you have a sizable outbreak infecting some very important people.

This just underscores, again, that the casual disregard for masks, social distancing, etc. is a foolish decision when anyone at any time can be a spreader.

At minimum, any kids punished need a full pardon immediately.

Thing is going to spread - its what viruses do. Saying they all would have been "safe" with masks is a bit simplistic, IMO. If anything, shows relying on testing to feel safe is a fools errand.

From what I understand, the kids involved had the punishment downgraded to "probation" recently.
