Amen. I don't know how they can expect other cultures to follow their rules/Sharia law. It's ridiculous. There are certain things politicians can do to be more welcoming to other country's elected officials or ambassadors, but to actually require the other party to abide by a conduct like this is over the line.

Federal judge blocks Texas' move to kick Planned Parenthood out of Medicaid (Dallas News, Feb 21, 2017)
Excerpts:
AUSTIN — A federal judge on Tuesday said Texas can't remove Planned Parenthood from Medicaid, issuing a temporary block of the state's ouster that will allow the provider to continue to care for patients through the program.
U.S. District Court Judge Sam Sparks issued a preliminary injunction and said the state didn't have grounds to conclude that Planned Parenthood "warranted termination from the Medicaid program as unqualified." His temporary block will stay in place until a full trial is scheduled, argued and decided.

Sparks criticized Texas for taking more than a year to officially remove the provider and poked fun at the state's grounds for removing Planned Parenthood in his Tuesday decision.
"A secretly recorded video, fake names, a grand jury indictment, congressional investigations — these are the building blocks of a best-selling novel rather than a case concerning the interplay of federal and state authority through the Medicaid program," Sparks wrote. "Yet, rather than a villain plotting to take over the world, the subject of this case is the state of Texas' efforts to expel a group of health care providers from a social health care program for families and individuals with limited resources."

"Without any evidence indicating an actual program violation warranting termination, the inspector general nevertheless acted to terminate one of the provider plaintiffs from the Texas Medicaid program and sought to terminate the other provider plaintiffs by extension," Sparks wrote. "After reviewing the evidence currently in the record, the court finds the inspector general, and thus HHSC, likely acted to disenroll qualified health care providers from Medicaid without cause."

Planned Parenthood reportedly served 11,000 women through Medicaid and received $4 million in Medicaid funding in 2015. Officials said if Planned Parenthood were removed from the program these women would lose access to contraceptives, cancer screenings, HIV tests and other care. Nearly half of the provider's Texas clinics treat underserved communities.

"This court is not convinced all of [Planned Parenthood's] patients would be able to quickly and easily find new providers if they were prevented from seeing their chosen provider, a harm in and of itself," Sparks wrote Tuesday. Planned Parenthood's "centers are the only family planning specialists in the state and provide a wide variety of services in a manner specifically designed to be convenient for vulnerable populations."

Decision linked in article.

H.W. Bush appointee. Man (or his clerks) deserves a round of applause for some solid legal writing there.

Isn't the whole immigration debate about how we expect others who come here to respect and observe our cultural norms (i.e. assimilate)?

Le Pen wasn't becoming a Lebanese citizen. That would be like us forcing a woman to remove their hijab when they come to meet with our president.

But that's not what our current debate is about either. The immigration ban also impacts people coming here on non-immigrant temporary visas.

It's not an "immigration ban," it's a travel ban. No, we don't expect people VISITING the United States to assimilate. That's not how assimilation works.

Semantics. So what's our rationale for not allowing visitors if not that they don't fit in with our culture?

National security? Maybe you missed the part that the ban is temporary. A new regime has just taken over and they've instituted this temporary ban until they get a more robust understanding of our vetting procedures and how they need to be strengthened. Nobody is suggesting that people who "don't fit with our culture" should be permanently barred from entry into the United States.

And the people who have been here on visas and green cards who wish to visit home and come back? Are they going to all of a sudden radicalize by stepping foot on Yemeni soil and then pose a threat when they come back that they didn't previously?

I didn't say I agree with how the ban was implemented. I didn't even say I agree with it in theory. All I said is that a travel ban is not immigration policy.

Fair. I don't have an issue with a temporary ban on refugees and new visas in order to enhance security, I just think the current order is way too broad and just thinly veiled enough to sidestep first amendment concerns.

I think the whole debate is we don't want unchecked radicals easily coming into our country. Also, you can respect a culture's beliefs, but you shouldn't have to obey them. Nobody should be forcing outsiders to follow their customs. Federal/state laws are a different matter. If someone migrates to another country, you're forced to abide by that country's laws even if they don't coincide with your beliefs. That doesn't mean you have to give up your culture, but it's silly to expect or force an outsider to abide by your religious beliefs.

Maybe, if you want to deal in extremes to make a point. It's a temporary ban though, so who cares.

Aren't they rewriting it to calm all of those that thought Trump said no one will be allowed in the US anymore?

The only person I ever knew with cystic acne was a dude. He took acutane back in the 80s, and it cleared up by the time he was a junior in HS.

That this person slogged through college with it untreated is, to me, a choice. For hell sake if it was that bad for her, why didn't she tell her parents...and if she did, why didn't they freakin' get her treatments sooner. And why does any of that have anything to do with sitting down to pee?

I'll try to find the article, but I had a bit of a revelation yesterday about the major problem of modern era feminism. Not just the crazies, who are easy enough to ridicule, but the "mainstream" feminists.

Their ideology has devolved from one of equality to one of sameness. It's not "men and women are equal," it's "men and women are the same." There's nothing a modern feminist hates more than femininity.

A page or two I posted an article about gender feminism vs. equality feminism by Hoff Sommers.

I am petitioning friends to have a "Day without Men" next Friday. We march to the bar after golfing in the morning to watch basketball all day - instead of red we will all wear green. Still undecided if we play poker while we watch NCAAs or not.
