Since its the off season i figured it would be intresting to make a thread about different books you guys enjoyed ( i need something new to read) and possibly favorite authors.Ill start us off

Without a doubt my favorite author is Cormac McCarthy, he wrote the road and no country for old men. My favorite books have to be

1. The Road
2. Blood Meridian
3. Blood makes the grass grow green
4. Lone survivor

Lone Survivor is going to be made into a film and for the most part its very very good, a little to cocky in spots but the guy that wrote it was a navy seal so i suppose thats understandable. It truly is one of the saddest books i have ever read.

More of a classic kind of guy.....

1. Catch-22
2. Huck Finn
3. Tom Sawyer
4. Atlas Shrugged
5. A Road to Serfdom

To be honest, I find it more and more difficult to read fiction.

You're a smart man....Try my first book "The Secret Knowledge"...it's probably the best political book I've ever read. It's by David Mamet.

If you thought the movie was good.......The book is epic.

You better like descriptions. Easton-Ellis is a mastermind at them. And it can be annoying sometimes.

Try "Bright Lights Big City" by Jay McInery as well.

Bonfire of the Vanities by Tom Wolfe is my favorite novel. And not to be cliche, but I've also always been a big fan of Catcher in the Rye. I don't read a lot of novels anymore. I'm into anything about theoretical physics/cosmology/astronomy right now, along with a little consumer technology stuff. And since I recently went to work in the corporate tax field, I've been sprinkling in some reading about financial theory and financial products. Anyone familiar with Nassim Nicholas Taleb? Wrote Fooled by Randomness and the Black Swan (no relation to the recent movie)?

If you haven't read it, I suggest Nudge too. I found it to be incredibly interesting and made me much more aware of how things are presented to me.

Also, I am currently re-reading the curcial conversations/confrontations series. I find them helpful with dealing with staff.

Read it once for undergrad and read it again about 3 years ago in the midst of the economic trough. Great read.

One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey is far and away the best book I've ever read. If you haven't read it, I suggest you do. A Confederacy of Dunces is great, as is Catch-22 for comedies.

I like hard-edged crime fiction; anything by James Ellroy, especially "American Tabloid." I really like the Parker series of novels by Richard Stark (aka Donald Westlake). I've never read a bad Joseph Wambaugh book. Good non-fiction; anything by Paul Johnson or T.J. English.

It's indescribably graphic, easily the most disgusting book that I've ever read.

...But good, nonetheless.

Atlas Shrugged
White Apples
The Hunger Games
Pillars of the Earth

LEAST FAVORITE: As I Lay Dying....... I have literally no idea why people consider this book tolerable much less one of the American greats.

I was waiting for that to come up... is it really that good? * Just asking, haven't read/ watched movie*

For me:
The Greatest of Friends (About FDR and Churchill) Keith Aldritt
Note really a book, but nearly everything by Poe- especially, The TellTale Heart and Annabel Lee
The Kite Runner

Griffin.
Badge of Honor series
Presidential Agent series
I really love Clancy.
The Bear and The Dragon is probably my favorite there.
I used to really enjoy the Reacher Novels by Lee Childs.
A lot of my reading though is WWII books especially about the Pacific campaign and the rise of nazi Germany.
Flags of Our Fathers I enjoyed. Helmet for my Pillow. The rise and fall of nazi Germany. The coming of the third Reich and Heinrich Himmler are all ones I would suggest from that list.
The Harry Potter books were a guilty pleasure for me.
