Sad about the lack of media coverage on the 6 predominately black churches that burned down in the last week. Coincidence, I think not. Media should be ashamed of themselves.

Six predominately black Southern churches burn within a week; arson suspected in at least three - The Washington Post

WoW. What is the mentality that attacks churches and people in churches?

It isn't too hard to arrive at the conclusion that this is in response to the confederate flag issue, and some other suggestions about Southern Symbols and related items.

Burning a church is a hate crime in my book...add in racial motivation, and I'm not sure how you avoid a hate crime here...but truth is stranger than fiction...we shall see.

SC does not have hate crime laws. I recall several periods of church burnings (mostly AA churches) throughout my life here in SC. The problem with these events in SC, is establishing motive enough to where the Feds can step in and justify further investigation. Typically, there is not enough "evidence" to say this was a definite hate crime because SC does not have such laws to accurately delve into such matters because they don't have to.

I can see how, without video evidence, it would be difficult if not impossible to prove the perp was in fact wearing a hat.......

Good things turned out the way they did then... nicely balanced each other out....

Lots of churches burning. Really messed up!

It really is. I don't care if you agree with the churches views or not those people that attend each church put a lot of their own time into keeping them running and contribute with their money. And in my view it proves nothing at all other then you are arrogant person.

That church was previously burned by The KKK in the mid 90s IIRC.

We also had a "Be On The Lookout" alert for another person who was a credible threat. He was recently located and detained and authorities indicate he was planning on shooting as many as 12 people. That is a pretty specific number so not sure why. Uhg.

The fire in Greeleyville has been ruled to be caused by lightning, not arson.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Dylann Roof, the man who allegedly killed nine people in a Charleston church last month, should not have been able to buy a gun, the FBI has now determined, contradicting earlier assertions that the background check was done properly, a law enforcement official tells CNN and FBI’s director told reporters in Washington.

FBI Director James Comey told reporters Friday “this rips all of our hearts out” and “we are all sick this happened.”

Comey said he felt confident enough in facts last night and that was when he concluded FBI made a mistake. He said the FBI made a clerical error due in part between a breakdown in paperwork between police departments and counties.

Due to a prior arrest when Roof admitted to possessing drugs, he should not have been permitted to buy the gun he used in the massacre. However, the NICS agent who was performing the background check on Roof was unable to determine which county the arrest had been made in and whether Roof had been convicted of the crime. Due to the fact that Roof’s background check took longer than three days to complete, the gun shop owner was allowed to sell the gun to Roof.

Roof, the 21-year-old accused of murdering nine African-American attendees of a bible study class at Charleston’s Emanuel AME church, used .45 caliber handgun to carry out the attack, stopping several times to reload.

Comey ordered a review to be completed within 30 days by the FBI’s inspection division. He said that agents are meeting Friday with the families of victims to explain what happened and what the agency will do next.

I thought Roof was given the gun by a family member for a birthday or something?

I believe that was an early storyline replaced by he got money from family for his birthday which he used to buy the gun.

South Carolina doesn't have a hate crime law.

Lynch noted that this was a federal indictment for the hate crime charges and that S.C. was proceeding on their own, Lynch stressed that this action was not superceding any state but was in addition to.

SC has the death penalty and Haley has stated she would like it to be the punishment. SC does not execute many people as of late so it will interesting to see after his trial is finished what will happen to him.

Dylan Roof will be executed.
"In his final argument to jurors, Roof, a 22-year-old white man, said he felt he had to carry out the slayings on 17 June 2015.

“I still feel like I had to do it,” Roof said. Holding on to his racist beliefs, he said: “Anyone who hates anything in their mind has a good reason for it.”

Still believe killing to show killing is wrong is both immoral and self-defeating. It lowers us as a society.

Dunno, think there has to be a point where death penalty is warranted. And this would certainly be one of those cases IMO.

If the options were 1) take him out back and shoot him 2) house him for 50+ years at a cost I'm imagining could be upwards of a million dollars I say put a bullet in his head every time and use that money on schools or something. Just my opinion though.

I can understand this, I honestly can,... but I also know what it feels like to have a family member murdered...
