Couple thing I have noticed in regards to the freshman.

Rabasa is absolutely a man-child and is definitely starting to take on the physical presence of MLB.

Ishaq in the US AAA game was long and skinny. Compared to where he was then, he has some guns on him now and his chest and legs are much thicker. Early enrollment was huge for this kid.

Grace still has a lot of room to fill out, which I feel strange even saying considering he is already a 240 lb MLB.

Koyack is going to be a monster.

This freshman class physcially fits right in with the Jr and Srs and they seem very comfortable in their own skin on the field.

Tate Nichols is one of the biggest guys I can remember in quite some time wearing the Irish Uniform. Taylor Decker will be even bigger in a year or two.

Interesting. Current 2-deep is: Floyd (1) and Smith (2) at the W; Riddick (1) and Toma (2) at the Z; with Jones (1) and Goodman (2) at the X.

Massa, Walker, and Daniels all pushing for time at the boundary, and Farley most likely #3 at the Z.

Here's hoping Farley is Tate 2.0.

Describing Deion Walker's spring as "outstanding" seems a little generous. Wasn't he kind of up and down?

I thought Walker had a chance of making 2 deep to start out but oh well. Also it seems that Toma is very grounded as he didn't mention himself at all when talking about the wide recievers.

Fall practice related-Paterno injured at practice by receiver running routes. Guys I've never been a Penn State fan even though I grew up in Penna but like everyone else a certain measure of respect must be given to Paterno but this latest thing is borderline ridiculous. Of course accidents happen but really Joe can you understand this may be a health risk to you and you may not be able to function in this capacity any longer. Not to be disrespectful but this is just getting silly-when's the last time a coach got run over in practice and this is not the first time. I'm just glad Notre Dame's not in this no win sad and hilarious situation. Someone's got to step up and make a decision here but maybe this latest thing will seal the deal if he has to miss the biggest part or all of the season. Unbelievable-run over at practice by a receiver-the poor kid must feel like he injured his grandpa or great grandpa. Please no Penn State people telling me I'm disrespectful this incident is insane-how old is he 80 something isnt it.

I know I'm most-likely out on my own among ND fans on this, but I actually like JoePa. I don't really care about Penn State one way or the other - they don't move the needle for me - but I don't get why people dislike Paterno so much. I hope he makes a speedy recovery.

Agree totally. Understand people don't like him, but I actually like him (even if I don't like PSU). He's good for college football in general and hope he gets back soon.

Ok back to our team now:

“@ChiTribHamilton: #NotreDame DC Bob Diaco, not shockingly, pegs Carlo Calabrese & Dan Fox as 1-A/1-B in inside LB battle.”

“@ChiTribHamilton: #NotreDame NG Louis Nix on "Irish Chocolate" nickname: "It hit me. You felt milky and creamy and chocolate and 'ND' all together."”

In the spring Kelly always said he was doing great. A little too late unfortunately I think for Deion.

I really want to see Daniel Smith makes some nice plays when Floyd needs a breather, or if we are up big

You never know. If measurables were all that mattered, Deion would be starting at X. If Kelly motivates him, he could surprise everyone this season. I'd love to see him play his way into a 5Y.

Really good stuff!

Toma's Hawaiian accent is disappearing.

What exactly is a Hawaiian accent?

Are the freshmen all as fast as I am hearing?

I agree, I think he has the tools to do it and would love to see it happen. But as it sits now,he is buried and would really need to emerge to get that 5th year look I think.

Diaco is so Rainman. I dig it.

Seriously though, you can see that he is taking a moment to think about what he says before it comes out. I'm sure that is something that he is consciously working on. Good for him. He will make a great head coach someday, and a great defensive coordinator... like... now.

Diaco is VERY careful not to praise anything prematurely. The question that he answered about the veterans possibly thinking that they could be an elite defense was met with a stonewall and a wonderful Pentagon-like public statement which goes forward telling you nothing at all. All we're going to get out of Diaco is "vibes", and they are quite positive despite his attempts at Sphinx-imitation.

To put it another way, and correct me if I am wrong OMM, if you were sitting on what the ND staff was, would you want anyone to know?

^correction to all, Bob Diaco must cover his true voice, if a human were to hear sounds from such heavenly vocal chords, the listener would go into cardiac arrest

I got a real Luca Brasi vibe from Coach D.
