"The freshman are conducting their business like freshman. There's some tangible skill out there (careful Bobby, I can feel their egos inflating)... which may or may not turn into production. Only time will tell."

Love this guy.

Like Big Lou a lot, and especially that he's turned the "maturity corner". It's always great to have a certain number of "class clowns" on the team, if they know when to act out. My brother had a fellow D-Lineman at East Carolina who could imitate by voice anybody. His "Muhammed Ali" on the sidelines was a real rouser. [I witnessed it while on a sideline pass].

I almost liked the off-hand mention of him wanting to punch Braxton on the practice field better. The "relentless" Caveman was teaching Big Lou something about what it takes, and that there is no place to hide once the ball is snapped. The fact that Braxton praised Lou shows that this "helpful mauling" worked.

[I suppose that most if not everyone realizes this, but guys want to punch each other on the field, and often in the locker-room later, all the time --- roiling testosterone. East Carolina was particularly bad about that back in the Pat Dye era, and my brother told me that he had to actually "knock guys out" several times ---as the strongest man on the team, fortunately, he was "last man standing".]

Great to hear Lo Wood really improving. Seems like he's been the forgotten man. I'll never forget what a great dad he had and how his dad sacrificed so much to make sure Lo made it. I'll always pull for that kid...

Very happy to hear about the progression of the younger CBs.
Hopefully they will get some nice playing time this season.

I'm very interested in hearing more about how Wood is a huge bad *** and all our CB depth concerns are for naught.

Tell me that story, Jack Nolan.

I think Lo Wood will play a role similar to Robert Blanton last year, the nickel back who plays almost as much as the starters. He badly needs the experience for next year. He will need to step up big time in a potentially porous secondary in 2012.

Everyone watch how quickly Cierre Wood sneaks through the small holes in the rodeo drills. He's special.

"Punt returners today: Harrison Smith, DaVaris Daniels, Deion Walker and Cam McDaniel."

I would love it if Walker were able to be a bonafide punt returner (not just a guy to securely field a fair catch). He would finally be able to solidly contribute on game days and it would mean one of the other young guys wouldn't be taken away/distracted from their position duties and responsibilities, enabling them to grow and get better in that capacity.

Walker was a big time returner in High School, just hope this year he puts it all together.

Bennett, DD, Collinsworth, Gary Gray and Cam getting kickoff return looks

Also, it was II was saying Deion was getting a look at punts but ISD is saying only Harrison, DD and Cam on punt returns.

C McD returning kick offs? I suspect his speed is better than advertised. I'll be very surprised if Kelly increases Gray's injury risk by making him a return man. He's one of a few irreplaceables.

Ditto on increasing Harrison's risk of injury as a punt returner; though I suppose it's in line with ND's Great White Safety tradition.
