England has only three really high quality players for me (Kane, Maguire, Walker), but a few OK ones. They seem to be more competitive than they've been. And they're physical enough that Sweden won't be able to outmuscle them. Typical low scoring game coming up.

Too bad the powerhouses have to play one another.

On Russia, this guy Golovin seems REALLY good, and the Big Ship that plays striker is a real problem. As low scoring as this tournament is, I'd believe anything.

I’d include Dele Ali over Walker. The lad is world class. Walker should be world class but is good for one mental error per game. The one against Colombia should have led to a goal if not for a Cuadrado shank.

Agree to differ on Walker. I've seen many of his games with zero errors. That guy is a wrecking ball on attacks with unusual speed plus muscle for a wingback. I'd take him in a heartbeat at Liverpool if we didn't already have two really good young hustlers.

Dele Ali is very good --- not yet what he'll become in my opinion.

As to the World Cup: I'm hoping for Belgium, Croatia, England, and ? ---- which probably means it will be Brazil, Sweden, Russia and ?

generally its an established super power falling afoul of something that changes the laws of the game.

i liked that some of the refs stepped up and carded people for these things, even in the box. Soccer for me needs more scoring. Laying the cards down on these clowns earlier in the game might loosen up the illegal/cynical fouling which prevents offense.

(In my crazier moments, I imagine soccer played with 9 man sides.)

It’s funny England goes through one if the more gifted semi runs in memory and all it’ll feed is their deluded sense of superiority... it’d be in panic mode but I doubt they can hang with Croatia and then the France Bekguim winner back to back...
