The calendar will continue to be a big barrier for MLS clubs in that thing...

Absolutely but no excuses. Toronto had every chance to win it. If it wasn't for a Bono howler or Delgado missing a sitter, Toronto wins it easily. Can't let a match go to penalties especially with Michael Bradley on your team...

(Deleted the video, because I can't stop it from auto-playing)

Way to go, Ulreich...

And Neuer's not close to fitness yet.

In light of all the injuries, they came within a goal of putting Real away today. Still disappointing, though.

To all the Liverpool Ultras of Irish Envy, I extend the proverbial olive branch. May the best team win. But be prepared for Roma to play like a possessed pack of wolves. If they get 1 early, anything can happen.

Man, y'all took out my heart when you turned the tables on Barcelona. It would be a double dagger if Roma took out my favorite EPL team after a 5 goal deficit. I took my first day off in over a year today (crazy busy work year) just to relax and it fit in nicely with today's game. Frazier and Burnside are coming over to watch...I'll let them know you're rooting hard for your team.

Should be a fun, open game!

Tell them I said whats up! I'll text you next time I'm back home.

I'm still in shock that they beat Barca the way the did and that game was almost a month ago. lol. I think both Strootman and Perrotti are out for Roma, so they need a miracle today. Either way, I'm beyond happy with them making it this far in the tournament and getting the much needed CL $$$. I just want to see them give it a go today. Di Francesco totally f'd up in the first leg. Should have switched to a back 4 at half time instead of waiting another 20 mins. That was extremely frustrating to watch. Regardless I'm happy with how far they went.

I think it is more than fair to call this Real Madrid team sloppy.

Are they also rather complacent?

Well this is over. Congrats to Liverpool. Roma just absolutely shit the bed this round. Leg 1 first half was plagued with errant passing in the middle. Leg 2 second half was EDF complete fault. Now in this 2nd leg, Radja gives away an unforced errant pass that leads to the first goal. Fuking infuriating because ppl that don't watch Roma will take this as Liverpool is so much better. But in fact, Roma is shitting the fukin bed hardcore this tie. They are so much better than this. Still proud that the made it this far.

Roma hadn’t conceded at home in the Champions League all season. It’s taken Liverpool 25 minutes to score twice.

And the first goal was a complete errant pass, they just mentally lost it last week. Basically an own goal.. so annoying

With all respect to Roma (a team that I've only watched twice now), they found the answer to Salah --- Thug him. They (I believe it was the Russian both times) blasted him twice in the first five (?) minutes. He didn't like the pain. He shied off play FAR more in the game then than I've ever seen him. Some other Liverpool players shied off more than usual also.

Roma is EXTREMELY physical from what I saw. Both Liverpool wingbacks were fighting WAY over their weight class, and Alexander-Arnold barely survived it (in terms of not letting the side down.) This game showed what Mane and Firmino (who showed no fear), and Milner (who just collapsed at the final whistle), and Van Dijk (who could rock with them till the end) mean in this sort of bang-into-people game.

I can see how it's extremely difficult to beat Roma, unless you too are a highskill muscle team.

OMM, did you notice how much better the back 4 line tactics performed compared to the back 3 with Wing backs? The two physical pushes Kalorov had at the start had some effect on him. But Salah is too good a player to be effected by that too much. Roma’s defense tactics were just more refined and tuned into this game. They didn’t press as high up the pitch when Pool had the ball and their communication and rotation of the back 4 and then De Rossi was just so much better today.

If I may make one observation for the Liverpool fans. Against Real, they are going to dominate possession. Since you already know that, Liverpool cant afford to give up as much space in the middle 3rd of the field as they did today. Kroos, Modric, and Isco will out possess Pool and Henderson’s midfield and Klopp will have to come up with a way to pinch in the wingers and bunker down and defend while still giving them opportunitiy to break free when they do disposes Madrid. Maybe you stagger Mane further back then Salah and use him as the outlet pass for Firminho.

If that's an own goal, the one off Milner's face is worth two.

I'm actually a little surprised at the pant pissing from Italy over that match. They were fortunate to be as close as they were. If they honestly feel they deserved more, there's really no response to that. The PK on Klavan was a make up call for the one that should have been given against Alexander Arnold.

Then there was the PK in the first leg.

That said, I'm all for VAR. Bring it on.

Stoke was all over Salah this past weekend. How anyone hadn't thought of it sooner I don't know.

I thought Ashley Young played him straight up and did a great job, but aside from that, everyone else has had to use extracurricular stuff in order to slow him down. Guess it will depend on who the official is on a given day when Salah plays.

Obviously the game two Roma tactics were better, but in my viewing they were better BOTH in the way to which you are referring AND by upping the physicality.

While it is theoretically true that no player (good or mediocre) SHOULD be cowed by roughhouse play, it is nevertheless true that some are. Salah seems to be such a player. So does Alexander-Arnold. The physicality was rough enough that Liverpool's typical race-in-there-in-midfield-and-steal-a-pass press game was OFTEN stunted by what I can only see as a self-preservation reluctance. (Christian Pulisic is another player who can be thwarted to a degree by roughhouse play and Darlington Nagbe essentially disappears.)

"We" occasionally used to do this in basketball if facing the "right" opponent. A hard foul was sometimes all it took to get the guy thinking too much about close-quarters activities.

I am not saying that Roma is a "dirty" team, but I am saying that they have the physical people (and attitudes) all over the pitch to stretch the rules if the ref does not lay heavy hands on it.

According to Bleacher Report LeBron James' stake in Liverpool which was worth £6.5M in 2011 is now worth £32M in 2018.

While impressive, I'd assume any club that hasn't been relegated has seen a similar ROI given the nature of the current premier league, no?

Can't say. They may have buried the lead here considering shortly before LeBron bought in, Liverpool was close to being owned by the Royal Bank of Scotland.

FSG took over Liverpool in 2010 and it was in pretty bad shape thanks to American Idiots Tom Hicks and George Gillett. LeBron puts in $6.5M in 2011 and 7 years later his investment is worth five times that.

John Henry has done a great job. It may not be as fast as that fan base would like, but they seem to be in very good shape all things considered.
