Be interested to see what Rafa could do with a proper budget

If Mike Ashley would ever sell the team........ maybe it's just my fandom talking but you'd think the billionaire would be owners of the world would be jumping all over that potential sale. Hasn't seemed the case though.

Oh totally. What he has done this year is remarkable. That is the lowest-quality squad in the EPL this year, for me, and they look like they are gonna stay up comfortably, may stay top half of the table, even. Amazing.

if anybody looking for a bandwagon to get on, look at Wolves, they are gonna be interesting side to watch next year in EPL, Ruven Navas is amazing and if they can keep him around they'll win some games

This could go in the grind your gears thread but I'll post it here: You know what soccer fans tick me off? It's not so much the clear bandwagon front runners of Real, Barca, City, Chelsea, Bayern or on and on... it's the American soccer fan who roots for another national team... I'm not talking US soccer fan who ALSO likes his country of origin as a secondary, I think we all do that. I'm talking born and raised here guy who has family ties to say, idk, Norway, but disavows our national team because they aren't good enough or some such but rocks Argentina or Germany or whoever national kits and claims to be a fan of them. That dude can eat a bag of dicks.

Totally agree. They are backed by Chinese money, IIRC, and they are a really exciting side, and they could make some real noise in the PL next eyar.

On the topic of teams about to be promoted, Shad Khan at Fulham just put in a bid to buy Wembley. He says its for mainly NFL purposes (he is also Jags owner), but with Fulham a likely candidate for promotion, can't help but think he might have some ulterior motives considering Craven Cottage would be the smallest stadium in the Prem besides Bournemouth and Burnley, both of which are building bigger stadiums.

Craven has a ton of character... if they upgrade I hope they do so in some unique way and not by simply building Fulham and larger cookie cutter...

they could get a fortune if they sold it though, it'd be prime real estate.
not sure if there is much room to expand either its boxed in by the river and the houses around it.

Theres a rugby pitch down one end they could aquire but they'd have to be creative with the pitch layout somehow

It's not the American fans at all, but the core group of Liverpool supporters over there take a few just over the top 'club defining' stances that I just can't stop shaking my head at... in absolute fairness after I got all in with Celtic it become clear the Green Brigade especially had their fair share too...

I started watching a lot of Men's soccer games (had been watching our mighty and beautiful women --- simple pleasures) due to you guys' talking about it. Was watching the Premier League mainly and the USMNT. One of those two gave me constant headaches and no fun. ... so on to Merry Ol' England.

Watched ManU for a while only because of fascination with the Old red-headed Warrior. But couldn't relate to the team or coach. Just was flubdubbing around enjoying the skill, and along came Klopp. That was it. Man's Man absolutely on fire and in love with the game, heart on his sleeve when things were good or bad, hugging his players and beaming at the fans long after the final whistle --- even put on an absolutely charmer of an interview with a little girl fan.

As my reward, then along came Salah .........

As I've said before in this thread, I root for Liverpool primarily because I view them as the ND of English soccer: once the dominant team in the sport, haven't won a title since the 80s, have been trying to recover that dominance ever since. Something about that dynamic of trying to retrieve lost greatness appeals to me.

Always felt like Spurs are more Notre Dame-y, but Liverpool does have some of that aspect too.

Spurs were once the new kid on the block and rose to power as a little guy winning trophies outside of the good boys club. Haven't won a major trophy since 1991. Lots of money, but not enough in comparison to the top 7 or 8 teams in the world.

Liverpool fits because of what you said, but even without an EPL title since 1990, I'm 36 and they've won 30 trophies in my lifetime. UCL title in 2005. Almost comparable to USC, to be honest.

One of FC Cincinnati’s midfielders pulled a Zlatan in their match yesterday. There was also a really quality chip later from one of the guys that was supposedly signed with the MLS-transition/roster in mind. First highlight for Zlatan:

Yep, I recall reading a column written by Bill Simmons about ten years ago in which he solicited reader input on which EPL team he should choose to root for, and discussed the options at length. He ended up selecting Spurs, with Liverpool a close second. IIRC, Spurs got the nod primarily because London is a cooler place to visit than Liverpool. Fair enough.

And btw, after watching Bayern/Real yesterday, I like Liverpool's chances of winning CL this year. The bottom line for me is all 4 semi-finalists are capable of occasional sloppiness and occasional greatness. Liverpool are in a run of form where the greatness is outweighing the sloppiness; just need to keep that up.

I started rooting for City after reading that Simmon’s column. It seemed like a non-bandwagon choice at the time considering their history and how successful United was. I didn’t realize they would become one of the richest teams. Worked out well and I have a clear conscience as far as being a bandwagon fan.

* Here is what Simmons wrote about City then:

Bandwagon Potential: Couldn't be lower. In fact, one of my neighbors (Brian) is a native Irishman and a huge Man City fan; when I told him about this column and how Man City made my final four, he said, "Oh, you don't want to pick them. You're born into rooting for Manchester City. You would never want to arbitrarily pick them. You should choose someone else." Well, then.

So far this season, nationally telecasted MLS matches have averaged more viewers than nationally telecasted regular season NHL games.

I watched the last 30 minutes of the Seattle/LAFC game on Sunday night. WOW, what a crowd for LAFC's debut! Let alone how many people were watching from home. If the MLS can continue to get that kind of support in person, the brand will keep growing.

Yup. I can watch any Atlanta match too because in addition to them playing a great style, their crowd is the best.

LAFC has been a pleasant addition. I know Lion is hoping for a similar outcome with Cincy soon.

Reading up on LAFC's stadium, I really love what they did to make the place steep so the crowd is loud and close to the pitch.

From everything Lion says, I think Cincy would do great things, support wise at least, in the MLS.
