Maybe if Omar Gonzalez played in Spain....... Maybe then it'd be worth watching...

;)

Haha, oh Omar. A good bunch of Americans are breaking into some Spanish sides actually. Shaq Moore is a rising star for the national team IMO. He's 18 and in playing for Valencia B side. Then there is Boxi Yomba who plays for the Atletico Madrid B (or C) side. Pretty sure he is just 17. Mukwelle Akale plays for the Villarreal B side at just 17, too. Of those three mentioned, Akale is as near to a "lock" as there is in soccer of being a solid pro and a contributor to the national team. Boxi Yomba has the skills, but he is undersized which could hold him back. Like he is Giovinco small last I heard.

Those three are your best bets at getting an American in Spain any time soon.

I am hoping for Real-Juve and Barcelona-Bayern.

Both matches would be phenomenal.

An El Classico final would be insane.

Bayern should play one of the two Spanish teams just because the last 16 and quarter final draws were very kind.

Plus Lewa owns Real.... And Müller owns Barca.

Correct. It would end up being Real playing to go to penalties.

Failing to see why you guys think Real would play to go to penalties.

There has not been a scoreless draw in the series since 2002. Further, over the last 22 games the two have faced off in any competition, there have been 78 goals, yielding an average of 3.5 goals a game, which is more than any of the leagues left in the competition by almost a whole goal a game.

I have to rant on Spain now, love ya NDinLA, but:

La Liga to me has ruined a good part of the magic Euro soccer had for me... It's part of the reason I can't get into the EPL like I used to. Why watch the deepest league in the world when their champion has basically zero chance at all of winning Europe? The way TV income ( and other sources) are given almost exclusively to two clubs just turns me off... Then of course you get this environment where under fair play rules the only teams that can compete in the transfer market anymore are the Classico clubs... I mean you have a great historic team like AJAX whose ENTIRE HISTORY was out spent by Real in just the last two transfer windows... I also believe strongly if the EPL tried to make Man U and City into unstoppable monsters by tweaking the way the league income is distributed the way Barca and Real have FIFA would stop them cold.

I also don't like the national team either, while admitting their obvious quality they're like the most boring watch in all of sports... Lol... So I just do my best to avoid anything from Spain involving soccer...

Beyond that I suppose my love of the MLS is nationalistic,... Just like Ill watch the US national team any time over the English national team, even though I'll admit that while the US national team has come a long way in twenty years, they don't have the quality of the euro giants. It's the same way I look at the MLS...

:usa:

Here's my thoughts on the Classico from a couple months ago... I think Real and Barca have ruined Europe and rendered much of it unwatchable....

And yes,... I'll take the MLS over almost anything Europe these days, much more compelling to me.

ESPN has a great piece on Thomas Müller. Can't figure how to link on my phone.

Anyone who has watched him since he started playing at Bayern will really enjoy it.

Far and away my favorite player. Always a joy to watch him find new and more unorthodox ways to put the ball in the net.

Appreciate his work ethic and skill but I will never get over how pouty he always looks in international matches.

And ACamp, that is fair points on Barca-Real. I have really gotten into MLS this year and am surprised at the quality. Much better than I was expecting. While NYCFC is my team and I have watched like 5 of their games, I gotta say that I really enjoy watching Vancouver and Seattle. Obafemi Martins is an absolute beast. It baffles me that he wasn't on the last world cup squad for Nigeria. He would have given them a goal scoring threat they lacked.

True that. I don't watch a lot of MLS (trying to watch more this season) but I've been really impressed with him, based on the little I've seen.

Great MLS lineup this Sunday. LA Galaxy v NYRB (probably the two best teams in MLS so far this season), Seatle v Portland (the biggest rivalry in MLS), and Orlando v Toronto (USMNT stars + two of the biggest acquisitions of the offseason: Giovinco, Bradley, Altidore v Kaka & Brek).

There were some awesome MLS games on tonight.

Galaxy tied the Red Bulls 1-1. Bradford Jamison IV has a future for the USMNT IMO. At just 18, he showed some serious class for the Galaxy on their goal.

Sounders beat the Timbers (best MLS rivalry) 1-0 on a Clint Dempsey sitter off a deflection.

I turned it to ESPN to get their take on a great day......... It's ESPNFC mind you.... Tune in right now....

It's a live broadcast with commentators of UC Berk v ASU in some mind craft like video game.... I. Shit. You. Not.

I know. How ESPN can even pass that off as acceptable is beyond me. I can somewhat understand their mid 2000s fascination with covering the World Series of Poker, but this I just don't get. Any video game, don't care if its Madden, FIFA, whatever. It does not belong on ESPN.

Robben done. Thiago picks up a knock. Lewandowski breaks his jaw.

How the hell is this happening in Munich?

The Impact have legit gripes here, they are breaking on America like the show time Lakers... And on every break an American defender takes down an Impact forward, I think it's well over a dozen times now... One card, maybe three fouls.... It's unreal.

Honestly the Mexicans should have lost two players by now....

It was brutal. The worst was (when it was a tight game still in the 2nd half) when a Mexican defender 2 hand grabs the Montreal player and completely tackles him...a "professional foul" as they say, and an OBVIOUS yellow. No one would have complained. Instead, the ref brings the defender over to sternly give him a verbal warning LOL - no yellow. Even the Spanish-speaking announcers were incredulous. Seriously, they were shocked when no yellow was produced.

And then literally 2 minutes later, a Montreal defender goes studs a bit too high, takes the guy down, obvious foul, MAYBE a yellow, and the ref immediately produces a yellow. Complete and utter bullshit. I knew Montreal was cooked right there.
