I really do not like the Netherlands, Cameroon, or Korea, but I have Ivory Coast bowing out to Brazil in the quarters.

Calling gKIrish...

Am I crazy to throw 50 dollars on Greece outright beating Colombia?? It is 4.65 to 1 odds on the site I am using and I feel like a Falcao-less Colombia side doesn't pose much threat.

Wondering if we could create a separate World Cup 2014 thread. There will be a lot to talk about for those who like soccer; unexpected results, spectacular plays, bad referee, fans/Brazilian culture, etc.

It is an event that occurs once every four years and would be fantastic to have a separate thread if there are enough soccer fans for it. We can leave the Everything Soccer thread for club competitions and US National Team updates and other stuff.

At 4.65 to 1 I think it's a great bet. I wouldn't bet my life that they would win but I think if they played 4 times they would win at least 1 so you are getting good odds. (don't blame me if you lose though :)

Any and all productivity at work is gone. The World Cup is finally here

Working from home has turned out to be the greatest blessing ever. US Open golf followed directly by Brazil Croatia. I should be able to watch all the games. I love life.

The US men's soccer team visited an orphanage in Brazil yesterday. "It's heartbreaking to see their sad little faces with no hope," said Jose, age 6

So. Epic. I'm literally LMAO right now...thanks! :D

Shut up your face! I'm so pulling for Colombia its not even funny. 16 years of FIFA absence and now their back... so mad Falcao is out. But I still have a thread of foolish hope left that they'll at least win a few games.

Gigi Buffon out tonight against ENG. That can't be good for ITA.

Salvatore Sirigu of PSG is in net for the Azzurri..Quality keeper, played is big european games this past campaign... Bigger question is can Italy quell the pace of the young, limey Brits?

Forza Azzurri..

Although I'm not really a fan of either team, that was pretty entertaining. ITA looked really good. ENG is a combo of inexperienced and terrible. Rooney can fuck right off.

I am surprised of the ranking for the Brazilian, Argentinian and Belgium leagues.

There are other rankings out there... one has the MLS as the 7th league in the world.

What annoys me about these types of lists are that they almost don't rate the league as a whole. Top to bottom, the MLS and Liga MX are better than Ukraine, Russia, Turkey, and Portugal.

Even Ligue 1. If you take out their top 4 or 5 teams, the MLS and Liga MX are better as a whole. That is one thing about MLS's business model that I do really appreciate. It is not a top heavy league like these leagues. These leagues have 4 teams at most, and then a bunch of jokes. There is no parity in the leagues. Almost every single team is competitive besides Chivas USA.

The only leagues that are above MLS and Liga MX to me are

EPL, La Liga, and Bundesliga in no order
Serie A

Ligue 1

Eredivisie, MLS, Liga MX, and the other leagues I mentioned.

I agree about the leagues today but five years ago? No way. I would also include the Scottish league as well. Rangers and Celtic...that's it. But it is not all about parity though either. Zlatan Ibrohimovich is not going to leave Baceclona and play for Cruz Azul or the Chicago Fire. MLS wont be able to get superstars in their prime until the DP rule goes away and they can pay top prices for stars.
