Gotta plug my Greeks for a second here as a sleeper. They are always in every game by virtue of their defense. It may not be fun to watch but our method has been successful since 2004 when we won the Euro. Got 3 points in 2010 and I think we will get 4-5 this time around as they are in a very winnable group, especially with Falcao out.

I actually hope we see more of this. BPL teams with agreements to loan out U21s to the MLS. It could go very far to generate exposure for MLS once they move on. Anyway, this is good for MLS.

Agreed. I don't want the MLS to be used as a minor league system, per se, but I do agree that it would up the level of competition for one and also draw much more exposure to the game, whether by Euro scouts looking at American players or Americans just towards the game of soccer.

This is completely unrelated but remember when the USA beat Germany and everyone said it was Germany's C side? Well I am bored at work, and 13 of the Germans on that roster are present on at least the preliminary roster for the World Cup.

I don't know what it is now with the released 23 man roster but they are not all that healthy too plus they only have one forward listed (Klose). Most of the other attackers are primarily AMs or wingers.

I got some love for Greece. Even though I am Italian and Irish by heritage I always find myself rooting for the Greeks in international competitions. Seems they don't have much attacking presence though, correct?

Dude is so frustrating. Takes half the game off but then makes a ridiculous move to set up a goal.

They have a solid midfield and play the counter-attack well. Strikers have a lot of experience in international competition and we have this young guy named Kostas Mitrouglou who plays for Olympiakos that is our young phenom. Scored 3 goals in the 2 legs against Romania. He has been slumping lately but I could see him win a game as a sub.

Greece plays Nigeria tonight in Phili and then another game in New Jersey on Friday. I'm pissed I can't really go to ether game as I have other obligations. New Jersey is only an hour from me.

So you're saying he's a Greek Landon Donovan?? ... I thinks that fair. :)

A LOT of teams are. Mexico is, which I guess really is not a surprise. But Spain is playing one here, Greece a couple, Nigeria a couple, Ghana and South Korea are playing in Miami, pretty sure Japan and Costa Rica also just played in Miami.

Maybe to acclimated to the Brazilian climate somewhat combined with the fact its a much shorter flight to Brazil

Do not know if its official but Timmy Chandler is about to head to Frankfurt. Good move by him. He will still be playing in the Bundesliga.

Yell at Samaras for me "PLEASE stay with Celtic!!"

Lol I will..

Any way we can get an update to the VbPLAZA for 2014 World Cup teams. The current options are only 2006...

Have no idea who would be in charge of that.

As a US fan, I would be pleased with Ronaldo being out for the first 3 matches. As a soccer fan, no Ronaldo, Ibrahimovic, and Falcao in the World Cup would be very disappointing.

Along with the upcoming WC, it is also transfer period in Europe. Though the market activity will only begin earnest with the conclusion of the WC, there are some moves initiated at the moment. One rumor/reports that are out there that really annoys me is the one about Cesc Fabregas. As a Arsenal boy, I want him back at Arsenal. But it is claimed that he either signed or Chelsea have lodged a bid for 33m. If he ends up with Chelsea then I will be truly pissed. Either ways, hope Wenger moves fast and secures his signature before either Man U or Chelsea.

I've read reports that have him going back to arsenal, going to Chelsea, and stay at Barca. Essentially, English papers are doing their usual schtick in throwing shit at the wall and hoping something will stick. We will know more after the WC

Well Pique pretty much leaked the fact that Cesc had been sold. He told Del Bosque without realizing that the microphone was on. He is sold just don't know his destination yet. Fingers crossed that it is Arsenal but we will see.

Oh wow didn't see that. I've been away from the Internet for the past 48 hours or so. Any chance it's anyone else but Chelsea or Arsenal? Those are the only teams I saw linked.

So my friends and I did the pool I was talking about using power rankings. Group winner gets full rank points, 2nd place gets half their power rankings. Every game after that is worth full points...what u think of my teams (power ranks in parentheses)

Switzerland (15), Netherlands (13), Korea Republic (23), Cameroon (26) and Cote d'Ivoire (19)
