You are right. Their youth team will be very important moving forward. I interpreted that to include all transfers in and out including frees. We will see.

I've seen speculation that some BPL clubs could be sanctioned for the same stuff, soon.

Chelsea was previously given a similar penalty, but had a successful appeal. A lot of it has to do with youth transfers. I don't really know who this would apply to in the BPL, albeit I do not follow the transfer period as closely as I should.

I have not heard that but I would be surprised. It is hard to get transfers in to the UK because of their work visa restrictions. I would really be shocked but it will probably be one of the Champion league teams.

Highlights
Barcelona have been banned from making signings for two consecutive transfer windows after failing to abide by rules governing transfers of players under 18, FIFA announced on Wednesday....

A FIFA statement read: "The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has sanctioned the Real Federacion Espanola de Futbol (RFEF) and Spanish club FC Barcelona for breaches relating to the international transfer and registration of players under the age of 18.

"The investigations concerned several minor players who were registered and participated in competitions with the club over various periods between 2009 and 2013."

FIFA only permits international youth transfers when one of the three following situations apply: The player's parents have moved country for their own non-related reasons; The move takes place within the European Union if a player is aged between 16 and 18; The player's home is less than 50 kilometres from the national border being crossed.

The FIFA statement added: "FC Barcelona has been found to be in breach of art. 19 of the Regulations in the case of 10 minor players and to have committed several other concurrent infringements in the context of other players, including under Annexe 2 of the Regulations.

"The Disciplinary Committee regarded the infringements as serious and decided to sanction the club with a transfer ban at both national and international level for two complete and consecutive transfer periods, together with a fine of CHF 450,000 [$508,000 or 368,000 euros]. Additionally, the club was granted a period of 90 days in which to regularise the situation of all minor players concerned."

In February 2013, FIFA found that Barca had regularly failed to comply with its transfer regulations and extended a ban to cover six players from Barca's Cadete and Juvenil youth teams. This meant that South Koreans Lee Seung-Woo, Jang Gyeolhee and Paik Seung-Ho, French youngster Theo Chendri, Nigerian-Dutch player Bobby Adekanye and Cameroonian Patrice Sousia were training with their teams but unable to play in competitive games.

"It would not be two years of sanctions. It would be two transfer windows."

El Pais reported on Wednesday that club sources have indicated that they will appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, using Chelsea's successful appeal of a ban relating to the Gael Kakuta transfer from Lens as a precedent.

If the punishment is enforced this summer, the ruling could pose serious problems for Barcelona, who are also still contending with the ongoing investigation by a Spanish judge into irregularities in last summer's signing of Neymar.

Glad they got the away goal yesterday. We'll see what happens next week. Great test for the squad.

Wondolowski getting the start. Donovan starting off on the bench. Almost guaranteed Julian Green will come in for Wondo.

Interesting they are running a 4-4-2

I'd love for Wondo to be on my club team, but I'm not a fan for him to neon the national team. Just doesn't do enough for me. Against national team defenders, he's never proven to be a difference maker. I can see him MAYBE as a 4th striker on the team, but really, I'd much rather see Green get the start, so I'm a bit disappointed.

The thing with Wondo is, he just seems to always be in the right place at the right time. He won't overwhelm you with any ball skills, but he just always finds a way to score, whether it is with a header or little tap in.

I do agree though.

If Green performs, I do not see Wondo making the WC roster. I see it being Altidore, Johannsson, Eddie Johnson and Green.

I don't think Wando's goals are all luckily being in the right place at the right time. There is a skill element to that, kind of like rebounding in basketball. Instinct is important. I don't know if he does enough other things well to make the team, but I wouldn't mind having him there in case you desperately need a goal at some point.

Agree, but to me it comes down to him or Eddie Johnson?

Coin flip IMO.

Speaking of Wondo goals... another tonight. We are looking good (not great), but Mexico certainly is not. I am still concerned with the back line (given we have just two starters (I think) on it, but still...)

I feel like you use Eddie Johnson if you are making a sub around the 50-55 minute mark. You use Wondo if it is the last 15 or so minutes for his sheer instincts to find he goal.
