Does no one else see a problem here? You have ~3 teams just buying and hoarding everyone... I really don't understand how anyone who isn't actually from Barca, Madrid or Munich can be a fan of those teams... it's like coming to the US as an immigrant during the 1890s and instantly rooting for Rockefeller to continue to just keep fvking everyone else over. and yes I'm bitter but it's completely soulless....
I made a mental note in my head to return to this point when I was on a computer rather than my phone.
Barca - I actually was really into them when I first started playing FIFA(Fifa 09 and Fifa 10) because...you guessed it, they were an easy team to figure out the game with. This was at the peak of La Masia graduates dominating the team(Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets, etc.). Lots of news articles about how they are a fabulously wealthy team that cares more about homegrown talent. I can see the allure of being a Barca fan. I have went from having a mostly positive attitude towards them to an exceptionally bitter one. They have really embraced big money in the last few years.
Real Madrid - Ahhh Madrid, my first FIFA manager mode team if I recall when I borrowed an old FIFA game(FIFA 06 or 07) from a friend. I chose them exclusively because I had heard of them and it listed the three best players on your team when choosing, and David Beckham was one of them. They kinda have an air of "**** you" to them. Obviously I see the pull towards them. A lot of people cheer for teams based on their star players and Madrid has no shortage of true stars. I hate them because they are one of a very small number of clubs that could potentially steal Bayern players.
Bayern Munich - My family is extremely German. Can't trace it to Bavaria, as far back as I have gotten is Volga Germans. Perhaps my grandmother could help me trace it further but I find that to be very unlikely.
Like WhiskeyJack said, I totally get the hate. They are the Yankees of Germany. No further reason to hate them is needed. And I don't like how they have went about the Dortmund transfers other than Hummels as he is a Munich boy.
When I first started really following them, they were almost like a sleeping giant that was waking up. They were actually not winning the league all that much. The Bundesliga was going through some weird phase when a lot of different teams were winning. Schweinsteiger and Lahm were the mature homegrown guys, Badstuber(God bless this guy), Kroos, and Muller were the up and coming guys. Robben was just a casualty of the Ronaldo/Kaka transfers, and Ribery was just hitting his prime. It does make me smile that Germany's rules basically require the clubs to be financially responsible. Bayern aren't allowed to spend beyond their means(I'm looking at you Barca and Madrid).
I remember being SHOCKED when they got Javi Martinez, in a good way. It seemed like Bayern was taking advantage of their recent successes and opening the checkbook in a position of need. When they announced that Gotze was coming, I was rubbed the wrong way. The Lewandowski thing, not as much. Neither of these guys for whatever reason wanted to turn Dortmund into a true superpower.
This is the frustrating thing about soccer at times, but I get it. There seems to be an established order among the continental clubs. England, not QUITE as much due to the huge money that has flowed in. Manchester United has to fight Chelsea, Arsenal, City, and Liverpool for players. If a player is at a top 4 club in Germany and Bayern comes calling, they go. It's simple. If Juventus wants a guy in Italy, it seems like they get him. Rather than play a role in potentially challenging the major powers long-term by being a part of the up-and-coming team, they join the evil empire.
I have a soft spot for all Bundesliga teams. I love how they have kept the huge foreign investments out of the league. I wouldn't be too upset if Bayern somehow lost a good chunk of their financial power because they have more than enough to be competitive domestic and abroad. My Bayern season currently consists of watching them play Dortmund and in Champions League. If Bayern lost the league, it wouldn't bother me. I'd be excited to have a reason the following season to get more into it. It's not fun watching them win the league by 10-25 points.
Rant over.
TL;DR version: If you need to cheer for an Evil Empire, cheer for Bayern.
Bonus Content: Get on the Liverpool train now because it'll be leaving the station this fall when Klopp wins the league.
