Did they fire Pia or did she leave for Sweden? I would have never let her go. She was an excellent coach. As was Sermanni. He had their offense dominant. Ellis is awful and they've made it here because of talent alone.

I mean they have plenty of speed up front, they are doing the exact opposite of what they should be doing... I could see them adopting a Molde like approach where they just try to out pace teams to the box a number of times a game and it being effective... but for one, they rarely play all the players with said pace together, and two having Abby out there at all completely derails any honest attempt at something like that...

She stepped down, twice if I remember right.

Gold Cup Roster:

GOALKEEPERS (3): Brad Guzan (Aston Villa/2007), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake/2011, 2013), William Yarbrough (Club Leon)
DEFENDERS (7): Ventura Alvarado (Club America), John Brooks (Hertha Berlin), Timmy Chandler (Eintracht Frankfurt), Brad Evans (Seattle Sounders FC/2009), Omar Gonzalez (LA Galaxy/2013), Fabian Johnson (Borussia Mönchengladbach), Tim Ream (Bolton Wanderers/2011)
MIDFIELDERS (9): Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake/2009, 2013), Alejandro Bedoya (Nantes/2011, 2013), Michael Bradley (Toronto FC/2007, 2011), Brad Davis (Houston Dynamo/2005), Mix Diskerud (New York City FC/2013), Alfredo Morales (Ingolstadt), DeAndre Yedlin (Tottenham Hotspur), Gyasi Zardes (LA Galaxy), Graham Zusi (Sporting Kansas City)
FORWARDS (4): Jozy Altidore (Toronto FC/2011), Clint Dempsey (Seattle Sounders FC/2005, 2007, 2011), Aron Johannsson (AZ Alkmaar), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes/2011, 2013)

Dislike that Wondo and Brad Davis are included, but its about as expected for the most part.

Besler should be on there, but he spoke out about Klinsmann so he sealed his fate.

Hoof it to Abby...

It's been on my nerves since she's been hired. This is the best women's team in the world and we're not evolving it with the growth of the women's game. I don't see any way we win the WC this way. Even changing formation may doom the squad because they haven't prepared for it.

Galaxy taking the Timbers to the woodshed right now despite Zardes continuing to suck...

Lletget has been your MVP this game. Amazing that he was barely ever in the 18 at West Ham... Looks like they missed that one.

Andrea Pirlo is being officially announced by NYCFC tomorrow as well as another non-DP European. They are going to be loaded for the second half of the year.

Thought we'd have more US fans hanging around. I've got two German buddies now in ATL with me that are absolute soccerheads. One doesn't believe women's soccer is a real game lol. guessing he's not alone.

Julie Johnston needs to be on the all world team Unreal.

she's a beast. a hot beast, but a beast nonetheless

I usually dont post when I watch games. Just came to read about Wright's commitment when I remembered the thread. But I'm watching.

I'm similar with ND FB. Guess it's really where I'm watching from.

Decent game. USA goes through. I hate that we're playing Germany though. Love both teams.

Watched the game from a bar with my family. A couple of things I noticed:

They did everything right in the first half besides score.

The US's relentless attack was too much for China all game.

The US game plan was very average yet again.

Hope Solo and Julie Johnston. The two best players in this tournament not just for the US, but everybody.

Germany is going to give them hell, but I think they can do it.

I pull for Germany in all sports based on heritage. From a cultural and generic perspective, I have a lot more in common with them and the Irish than the American teams.

Lol don't get me wrong, North Dakota is still the US, and I'm grateful for that... But being honest, most Americans probably couldn't point us out on a map.

With the Gold Cup starting next week, I figured it was time to bump this thread.

July 3, the USMNT plays a friendly against Guatemala.

They open up play July 7th against Honduras, and will also match up with Haiti and Panama.

For GC standards, this is not an easy group. Honduras and Panama are both solid opponents, but the US is obviously superior. Haiti could mix things up in this group, though. They have been much better post-earthquake.

The group will finish with the US in first. After that, I have a feeling it will be Panama then Haiti in third.

I'll take Honduras in 2nd. If they get their stuff together they are clearly the #2, and can definitely give the US a run for their money. But they've disappointed lately.

I'm still shaking my head at the Chris Wondo addition, and the lack of Matt Besler (ever since he was critical of Klinnsman, who deserved it IMHO).

Edit: My head is STILL shaking at Chris WOndo's inclusion. Phenomenal club player, NOT international quality.
