ProV1and x is the best golf ball, but like SDIrishFan said, it's not worth it for most players. I compress the ball just fine and love spin on my iron shots. It allows me to shoot a number instead of playing short and guessing how much roll out I'll get. For that I always play a urethane cover.
I experimented with a lot of off brand balls: Snell, Vice, Maxfli, Kirkland, etc. Most of them will land, hop, and stop on firm greens or spin back a bit if the green is soft. Where they differ is distance off the tee and full iron shots in the wind. I've been playing Snell X for the last 5-6 years, but am currently in love with the Sam's Club ball. It's very similar to the Kirkland, but I found it to feel a tad softer.
If Kirkland works for you, then keep playing it. Best part is, almost no one will steal your ball.
