Alot of players REALLY value how cool the visors look as part of their helmet. I only played in high school, but our coach would only allow starting seniors to rock the visor. Kind of a payed-your-dues-and-did-the-work thing.

interesting.. never knew it was that much of an "earned commodity".. always thought you could just get one.. fair enough, congrats on the visor Everett, lol

For better or worse, today seems like the day where the torch has officially been passed. I'm absolutely giddy about it. We'll sink or swim with this new wave of guys. And yeah, there could be more of them, but as we watched these last two classes come together we were so excited about the possibilities "some day." This is finally the day. With what I think of this group of guys, and knowing what we have coming to reinforce them, I am as excited about ND football as I have been in about seven years. Of course, maybe Golson isn't better than Rees, and maybe our secondary gets torched, and maybe Neal isn't appreciably better than Goodman. All of that is possible, but we have a good chance of being a much improved football team now. We are plugging in real, serious BCS caliber athletes all over the field now.

Well said. I'll add they give us hope, hope for more and better.

EG was a :s::s::s::s: according to the 247 composite score and a story I read the other day said that BK really wanted to remove the redshirt from EG last season but didn't because EG was struggling academically and he didn't want to overload him.

EG will reward BK for that this season. I truly believe it.

So you're telling me that a coach put a player's well being before the team? Awesome!

Wonderful news... Of the two (Hendrix and EG), I'm glad that Golson went out and took command of the competition. Do work, Everett!!! This is a good thing.

This for me is what really constitutes a new day for the Irish. I'm not saying that EG is the second coming of Jesus, just that it's something new and exciting. I think this announcement is the dot on the exclamation point for this team, tough schedule or not these guys are going to go out and win like a team this year,

I'm mad excited about Golson getting the nod, and stoked about the season!

and I hate to be a killjoy, but I'm a little bummed for Hendrix. Between Golson and Kiel, thats pretty much it for his chances, barring an injury. Have to wonder what his next move is. I think he's a huge talent.

This young man is sure talking the right stuff. I agree with the ones that say this has a feel of finally turning the corner. Good things happen in year 3 and we are there!

One more post about that mythical helmet visor, which I already put in another thread:

Kelly didn't just give Golson the okay to wear the visor now that he's a starter. Golson went to the lockerroom before class, and saw that he didn't have his "starters" visor yet. He left, and while he was in class, BK had them put the visor on the helmet, and when Golson came back, he found his helmet with the visor and thus learned that the job was officially his. Thought that was pretty cool of BK to do it like that.

haha poor kid is so nervous infront of those vultures. I'm proud of him, he's going to be very good. Also, have they done the fall heights and weigh-in's? He looks like he added some muscle

Does anyone else think of a Derrick Rose interview when these kids are responding? Even when Rose drops 40 and hits the game winning shot, he always says it's because his teammates were there. It's the same as all of ND's players. I love this humble pie that they are all getting served. It makes for a very enjoyable football program.

Most of us don't live in the Chicago area, so probably not. lol

I'm glad that he's bashful and unassuming now.....because 1Sept, he's going to unleash hell on the College Football Universe.

I noticed that right off the bat as well, Golson doesnt look like a stick, that is for sure. From a few of the pictures I have seen from practice and stuff, his legs could use some extra mass. But he seems to have gained some weight overall and that is great! Really excited to see how this turns out.

Everything I've ever read about Hendrix, he'll be just fine. Hopefully he'll get some reps in games that we're dominating, he'll graduate, go to Med school and cure cancer.
Hope Gunner gets a red shirt, and Tommy gets a Red Army hat.

Only if Golson whines about the refs and the other team "celebrating" after every game.

I was thinking the same thing. He didn't have arms and a chest like that just a few months ago. Kid put in work in the weight room this summer and looks like it paid off. I am so pumped for this season. Let's Get it done, Everett!
